Decent restaurant. The servers were attentive and pretty friendly. I went here on a date. Atmosphere was alright. Typical for our area. Would have liked more intimate seating arrangements though. Date loved his food. He raved about the carbornara. He said it was the best he had. It did look and smelled delicious. I got the angel hair garlic oil. It was very bland. No garlic flavor at all. I had to salt it and put a lot of parm for it to have any flavor. A little bothered that it cost an extra 4 dollars to get chicken added to an entrée that came with no meat. On top of that the chicken was little overdone and dry. We had mozzarella stick appetizers and they were okay. Tasted like the frozen ones you can buy from the store and were not as hot temperature wise as I would have preferred. The complimentary bread is okay but nothing I had the desire to eat especially. They should offer you herbed oil on the side and let you dip it, instead of it being pre-drizzled. Not a bad place to eat. Good service. I would probably recommend that you stick to creamy dishes, tomato sauce dishes and dishes that come with a protein standard. Personally I feel like it is a little on the overpriced side. read more

What I believe to the owner was amazingly nice however food was not good. The pasta was very doughy and the sauce was different. I only took a couple bites of my meal and decided I wasn't gonna eat it. The owner came over and wanted to get us something else but my dates dish was just as doughy so I decided I was okay with no replacement. Recently tried La Casetta for the first time and I was honestly blown away by the great customer service, the food, and even the atmosphere inside was great. We had an older gentleman as our waiter and he was soft spoken, very informative, and funny. I love what they did with the building inside it was very welcoming and clean. Plenty of parking relaxed atmosphere, great staff, good selection of wine by the glass. We started with calamari which was cooked perfectly and enough for four. The batter was a little salty. Entre we had chicken parm over fresh made pasta, really nice. Veal saltimbocca, the veal was good but parts were tough, and the risotto pescadore, which was filled with fresh shellfish however was a strange take on risotto, the rice was overdone. Suppose to be authentic Italian. We had reservations for 5 adults... They crammed us in a 4 top. The eggplant parmesan was so mushy it was like baby food. The sauce tasted like it came out of a can. The calamari was rubbery. Asked for angel hair pasta got spaghetti. They charge $6 for a side of veggies and no substitutions. My chicken piccata was frozen cheap chicken tenders. It was drenched in olive oil after i asked for no oil. They brought pasta with no sauce. I sent it back it smelled so bad. AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE MEAL. Don't waste your money. read more

Four of us went here last evening for a Birthday Celebration. It was wonderful!! Chicken Piccata a was excellent, Nice surprise it came with a spaghetti with a wonderful pesto type sauce. Others had Chicken Parm and it was equally great!! Bread was hot and delish! Also my on the house Birthday dessert was my choice of Terrimisu (sp), so fabulous! Last night I went with a group and had a 6 course meal, fixed price. I had been to the restaurant before and was not a fan, but I have to tell you I was impressed! Every course was delicious, and the amounts were so large that the whole group had to take home leftovers. We came here for dinner, craving some good Italian. A smaller dinning room than I would have thought but still plenty of room for big groups. The food was awesome and we ended up ordering a little bit of everything from the menu and I don't think we had a single complaint. My family and I had the best experience here. We initially had plans to go to a different restaurant but ended up coming here because the other restaurant was unexpectedly closed. I'm so glad we did. The food was DELICIOUS. One of the best meals I've had in New Bern. The service was GREAT. My two year old son was being very cranky and loud. The chef happened to come out to the dining room at this time and tried to cheer him up. He ended up giving us chocolate cake on the house. From the moment we walked in, we knew it was not going to be a good experience. They wanted to seat us at a table right in the middle of traffic with patrons and staff contantly going past. Fortunately, we were given another table, which was very wobbly! The menu looked great and offered a wide variety. Our server "recited" the specials, but was so fast I had to ask him to repeat it and still did not understand. He looked over our heads the whole time. I ordered the clam linguine with white sauce. Whenit arrived, it was steamy hot, but the pasta was very dry and the whole clams were very tiny, about the size of my thumb nail. I requested a spoon to twirl my pasta. What I got was a family serving spoon. My husband ordered the eggplant parm. with spaghetti. It came about 5 minutes after my entre. It looked like a huge blob of mozzerella was microwaved on top. The pasta was non-existent. Eggplant was unpeeled and too thick. There was no parmesan at all. Most Italian restaurants include some kind of salad and bread and extra fresly grated parmesan. Nothing was offered, but we did ask for bread and our waiter was not pleasant about bring it to our table. I had heard such great reviews and was looking forward to celebrating our anniversay here, but we were very disapponted. However, the pinot grigio bottle of wine we ordered was wonderful! read more

Anna and the rest of the staff were so knowledgeable and helpful with my boyfriend and I making our selection. We both were very much impressed with the bread and the entrees. He ordered the linguini and shrimp and I ordered the chicken broccoli Alfredo with their homemade pasta. It was so delicious!! We even somehow saved room for their yummy tiramisu and chocolate mousse cake. Definitely try this place out! You will not be disappointed. The staff and especially Anna were wonderful. Amazing! There was a wonderful aroma of garlic when we first walked through the door. They get you started with a melt in your mouth fresh warm bread. Great selection of spirits. This place is a hidden gem. I've eaten lunch here several times when I've been in New Bern, and it's my favorite place. I can't figure out why it's not packed with patrons at lunch. Everything I've ordered is delicious, the service is attentive and the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and portions of food. Save room for the triple-chocolate cake. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and it's not exactly in a prime location on Neuse Blvd. It shares the parking lot with the license plate bureau, but La Casetta is definitely worth finding. read more

The best and really the only authentic Italian restaurant in town. As a bonus the entire staff is pleasant and very accommodating.

The food is mediocre at best, but the absolute worst part of my whole experience was the service. Not by the wait staff (who were actually really nice and friendly), but by the owner's wife!! She was rude, sarcastic, and worst of all, confrontational with me. As if trying to start an argument with customers is professional. I strongly suggest you never, never, NEVER go here! The service was absolutely terrible. I ordered food for take out and from the start the phone service was disrespectful and delayed. I came to pick up the food and the same girl that was on the phone greeted us. She started to ring me up and repeat my order. I mentioned that the order was incorrect and she replied with yes you are correct that is what I have on my screen" I said it wrong". I did not check the bags due to the chef bringing them out and saying everything was there......big mistake. I got home to find that I did not have the three salads that were supposed to come with the meal and one of the orders was incorrect. I stated that it was incorrect at the counter and she replied that she just read it wrong. The meal was exactly what she stated and was not what I ordered. Not only did I receive an incomplete wrong order, I opened the bag to find one of the plastic lids on the dish melted into the product. I called to notify them that there were several things wrong with my order. I did not expect anything for free or any special treatment.The same girl who I ordered from and picked the food up from answered the phone. I explained what happened and she replied with an attitude stating that I received what I ordered and made a ridiculous statement saying "what should I fire my cook". I don't think she should fire her cook. I think she should be fired. After eating the food I would say that they definitely have cooks and not Chefs. If you want shit service and mediocre overpriced food this place is for you! After going back up there to show the melted plastic and pick up the things that were left out of my order, I find out the woman with the attitude was the owners wife. I guess she can't be fired. If he wants to run a successful business he may want to reconsider having his wife leave the kitchen! read more

It was ok. You could definitely tell that they had just opened and were still figuring things out. There was plenty of wait staff but it still seemed like tables spent a lot if time waiting for the basics. The Caprese was good, made with fresh mozzarella. The pizza was also good and I would get it again. The veal parmasian lacked a certain quality and tasted like something I would make at home, and I'm not a good cook. The marinara sauce seemed watery and like it was poured from a can. The side bread was ok but I had to ask for it. (Not sure if they normally give it or if my waiter just forgot.). The beer I ordered came to me about an inch below the top of the glass (which is a pet peeve of mine) and the table next to me was even lower. Overall it was a decent place to take the family but I wouldn't go here on date night. The average meal is about $14 though which isn't bad. Most likely I'll just call in a pizza next time and pick it up. read more

We had been regular customers for the past year or so, and made a point to bring neighbors and friends with us whenever we came. Last night it was apparent we walked into a complete restaurant breakdown at La Casetta's in New Bern. It was so obvious there were issues that we asked the waitress as she was seating us if there was a problem? She replied "just a little short tonight" then disappeared for 20 minutes. In short, we received horrible service as a result of problems with the kitchen staff that left the servers out front bewildered as to what to do. With no food to serve, they ignored our table in hopes we wouldn't ask more questions. After over one hour I asked for the check for the soda and wine we had. The waitress now blamed it all on "computer problems" and offered to give us free wine. We declined and again asked for our check. She comes back with barely cooked, inedible food, and once again apologizes. After a couple of bites we get up and leave and make a point to tell them we are not coming back. They offer to halve the bill and pile on a bunch of "sorry about your food" comments, but nobody from management was owning the problem or even recognizing there was a problem. We will not be returning. I gave them one star for cleanliness and a decent wine list. Otherwise, food, service and attitude is horrible. read more
