We ordered a few beers while listening to live singer with back tracking music. A Saturday early evening was not too busy. Baby eels were an adventure. Chicken mole was delicious. The chicken leg/thigh combo was baked I think w sauce on? Skin was soft, I prefer crispy, then add Mole. I skipped the skin but all was tasty. Nice presentation. I went with a friend and his family (his dad was visiting from Mexico), so I felt like I was getting the real stamp of approval. I ate here with a group of 8 people to celebrate a college graduation. Several people in my group had heard great things about this place and were excited to try it. Ultimately, no one in my group thought it lived up to the hype. I had the chicken enchilada entree, which I enjoyed, but it didn't have much flavor at all - it could have used some seasoning or a more flavorful sauce. Others had similar feedback about a shrimp dish and various beverages. I think we would have been less critical if the food wasn't on the pricey side. On a plus side, our server was helpful and friendly and the service was fast and accurate. There's also free parking in a lot next to the restaurant, which was a nice perk, especially since it isn't in the best neighborhood. I've heard about La Casa de Samuel for a while now. I've known that they also serve some exotic dishes. It typically served at your traditional Mexican restaurants. We however ordered our traditional breakfast dishes. Their customer service is great. They were very welcoming and served very delicious food. The dining area is lovely and features art pieces through the building. They also have free parking on the side of the building. We started off with "Cafe de la Olla." This was very delicious and an excellent way to start of your breakfast. The coffee had a nice cinnamon flavor, but not to overpowering. The wife and I both ordered chilaquiles. She of course ordered the chilaquiles verdes and I ordered their rojos. The greens tasted better than the reds, but I don't like to order the same thing as my wife, so opted for the rojos. The sauce used for the verdes was very flavorful with some heat and a hint of citrus. The tortillas were both crispy and some soggy. Just they way I like them. They were topped off with queso fresco, cilantro and two fried eggs. They were also served with rice and beans making this not only a delicious dish, but a very filling dish. The red chilaquiles were good as well, but the sauce used didn't carry labor that the green ones did. Overall a very satisfying meal. We'll definitely be returning. Also when you enter you'll see a lady making hand made tortillas. We unfortunately didn't order anything to warrant an order of these tortillas, but on our next visit we'll make it a must to check them out. read more

This was the best mexican restaurant we've visited so far! The service was very fast and our server was extremely friendly!! For food, I had the Carne Tampiqueña and it was absolutely delicious, i've never had anything like it. The meat was extremely tender and not chewy at all. It had a great flavor on it's own but in the meal, they also included guacamole, rice, beans, and a molé enchilada. Each of which were absolutely delicious as well. Lastly, they have handmade tortillas! These tortillas are very difficult to come by in restaurants but there was a woman at the door making them fresh for the tables! They have music playing in the background in spanish, and a lady that is by the door is making hand made tortillas that are awesome. The place is spacious and it has plenty of seating. The menu has plenty of options and the prices are moderate. We got chips and warm salsa that was not too hot so it is good for most people. We got Horchata and Tamarindo water and both were tasty. This place used to be really good, authentic Mexican food, i used to crave this place. However I've been here 3x in the past 2 months and I can honestly say that this place is slowly letting itself go. There house salsa's been lukewarm, and the food mediocre. The vegetable fajitas I ordered today had too much onion and herbs it really threw off the flavor of the other vegetables. The al pastor taco was dry, not fresh at all. During my last visit I ordered the tortilla soup and it had plenty of ingredients but yet lacked flavor, I took it home, added salt and chicken broth and it was delish.
