Virgin alcohol drink per my personal request
    Liz H.

Great little Mexican restaurant with flavorful food, fun atmosphere and great service. Although it's a small place we were not the only ones there with a large party. Everything is on point. Everyone from my large table loved their food and drinks. Price is fair/average. Delicious food and happy servers. The drinks are also fun to look at and they were happy to accommodated my drink to a non alcoholic. I would definitely come back.

Been seeing this place a lot on social media and have wanted to come for a very long time. We finally made it here. The service was awesome. Very friendly. We obviously didn't look like we were from the neighborhood. We ordered the quesabirria, pozole soup carne en Su jugo. It was amazing. I wasn't even going to get the pozole but I decided to try it. I'm so glad I did. It was probably the best. In any case, all three had distinct flavor. Amazing.

Finally came today to try this restaurant! I love seeing the posts on Instagram and have been wanting to come for a long time! I had the two taco dinner. The al pastor tacos were delicious, rice and beans on point! I had the michelada as well with cucumber and shrimp! I ordered tacos to go for my parents and they loved the tacos as well! The green salsa is amazing. The cost and prices are very very reasonable especially for delicious food! Will definitely be back to try other meals!

I've NEVER tasted a Michelada like the one I tried here. It was remarkably delicious. Carne en su jugo was tasteful and delicious. Can't wait to come again.

Ambience is inviting and lively. If you're looking for truly authentic Mexican food then look no further. Don Pepe has a great menu from tacos, tortas, pozole and their specialty carne en su jugo. Everything we tried was flavorful with a kick. Salsa and chips? Yes please! I will definitely recommend that you visit Don Pepe for amazing food. Reviewed: Tacos and Tortas are not consistent with flavor. Mediocre for tacos and tortas.

We walked in and was able to get indoor seating right away. The serving size were big, but the service was a bit slow.

The drinks are hugeeeee and the food portion are big too. This place is perfect if you just want to do drinks and appetizers or just food but you will explode if you get food and drinks. Everything was delicious. It's a tad pricey but considering the portions I think it's fair. No parking lot just street parking

Awesome taco bar! Ordered this for the office and what a spread! Everything was fresh and very flavorful. Their guacamole is great and you can tell was made fresh that day - something I test with any restaurant that has guacamole.

First off, the negative reviews here are completely mind boggling... I couldn't disagree more. This place is awesome. They have some of the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago and I've had a lot of different types of Mexican food at places all over the city. I'm talking good authentic Mexican food, not dulled down overpriced stuff you'd find in Lakeview or something. They also have lots of fun, elaborate drinks that are absolutely delicious! They have a fun, chill atmosphere and friendly service. This will definitely one of my go-to restaurants in the area. Fyi, this is a neighborhood where the language is predominantly Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish, no problem! Just try and be patient and polite. That will make all the difference for your experience.

Delicious Pozole and tacos al vapor. Highly recommend. Usually busy but definitely worth the wait time. Waitresses always friendly and efficient.

Most of the reviews recommended the enchiladas and we ordered a variety of them. The Enchiladas Poblanos stuffed with chicken and cheese. The poblano sauce was rich and smoky. We also had the Enchiladas Morita. They were filled with shrimp and cheese. It was so flavorful and the morita chile added so much flavor. Each dish was served with a side jicama salad. Their special was a shrimp pasta with lobster. It came with full lobster tail. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. It is also BYOB, which is a nice option. We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place was packed. We only had to wait 10-15 minutes, which passed quickly with the live Mariachi music. The food came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. We got: - Margaritas -- piña mezcal, passion fruit and pepino. They were good but a little small for the price. - Pozole Pipian -- It has a verde base that's very light. Something that makes it unique is chicharrones on top. My daughter prefers pork over the chicken. - Carnitas Huarache -- good flavors but probably my least favorite of the meal. - Asada Torta -- this was my favorite dish of the night. The bread was really light and the meat wasn't tough at all. For dessert we got the churritos and Mexican bread pudding. Both were good but nothing special. All in all a great meal.

I arrived at the restaurant on time (4:30) and checked in with the hostess, who said I could only be seated when the entire group of three arrived. This seemed weird given the restaurant was pretty empty at this time, and ordinarily I'd order a drink while waiting at the table. Regardless, I went to Starbucks instead because I knew the other two were a few minutes behind. When I got back to the restaurant, my friend said the hostess told him we absolutely had to leave within 1.5 hours because we were late... which seemed odd because he may have checked in 15 minutes after our reservation, to an empty restaurant, that already refused to seat me on time. Regardless, the food was delicious. I had the Pollo in ChiChilo-- the mole was delicious, and I loved the chicken and sweet potato. I ordered the mole on the side, which seemed like a nice balance. Since the hostess wouldn't previously seat me, I had a lovely iced matcha latte with oat milk and half a pump of vanilla from Starbucks, which was a nice pairing. The waiter did ask if I wanted a shot of something with it, which seemed odd. Ambiance was cute, probably due for a renovation but seemed appropriate for most dining out occasions- dates, families, a day out in town. Note: the restaurant charges an automatic 20% gratuity which may explain the service. Keep this in mind to avoid tipping more than you intend. Overall, I would definitely come back, and the food and wait staff made up for the abrasive welcome.
