Ok ya'll... after living in Eugene for over three years, after living in San Diego for over 15 years.... well let's just say I was searching for a good Mexican place up here in Oregon. After seeing some reviews, I chose this place to try. We happened to go in Thursday, which.... is two combinations for $16.95 day (basically by one get one half off). We walked in the first time and the was a small wait, which made sense since the parking lot - which is large- was packed and I had to park all the way down the street. But alas, they won me over because, like any good Mexican restaurant worth it's weight, they serve chips and salsa at the table! I love that they carry salsa in pitchers around to refill the bowls! Their table salsa has a bit of bite, you can ask for a really mild salsa... just know you'll have to add salt! Lol I like the table salsa.... My parents tried the special on combinations... they both loved their combinations! Enchiladas are good and certainly not short of cheese and sauce! Burritos are huge and not filled with rice but packed full of meat. The tostadas are good and presented and look like a large salad. Rice and beans are ok... but I'm not a huge fan of sides 90% of the time! I love the bean dip you can get at the table and I mix it with salsa! I, however, orded the chicken beef combo fajitas... I cannot stress this enough.... not only are these awesome but the portion is huge... as in this lasted me for 4 days (note I don't eat as much as most). The tortillas were soft and flavorful...I can't tell if they're homemade or not, just that they're good! The sizzling platter came out as it should .... well.... sizzling ha ha ha! The meat was all lean and tender... and full of flavor and the platter was full of meat with some vegetables NOT just onions and green peppers. I would most definitely order this again. I will, however, be happy to share it with someone next time. The nachos are huge and absolutely unable to be finished by one person. I watched a teenage boy attempt to finish them. After a strong effort and twenty minutes he got to about half of them and still filled a to go box completely full! Looked like they were loaded. Next time we visited I ordered a taco picadillo... as in a side taco.... it was brought to the table and looked like a taco salad... tons of toppings and definitely a meal in itself. The gal at the table next to me ordered the super taco thinking it would be the same as mine just with guac and sour cream.... um no it was 2X the size! Anyway I may just order the taco when I come in next. It was great with flavor I the ingredients were fresh! Their drink menu is something to be envied. Like a stephanie drink heaven... so many fun sweet snowcone type drinks... haven't tried any, but I need to come back just for drinks!!! Volcano Colada is in my future!!!! At the end of your meal who needs dessert?? They auto bring cinnamon flour tortilla chips (bunuelos)... with a small scoop of ice cream, sauce (sometimes strawberry), whipped cream... pure yummy!!! I've been coming here since I was a child. I don't know anyone from the area that hasn't enjoyed numerous lunches and dinners at La Carreta. I have so many great memories created here with family and friends over the last 20+ years. I'd call it a Mexican food staple in the Gresham area. The staff here are awesome! Many of them have been around since i was just a child and are welcoming and genuinely happy to see us when we arrive. The service is always prompt, food comes out fairly quickly after ordering, and they keep the complimentary chips and salsa topped off at the tables. It seems to be a place that both young and old can enjoy. They have a large menu that includes many combo options. I typically order the enchilada and taco combo (although there nachos are delicious as well!). Other family members love their chili relleno and their fajitas. During the week, they serve complimentary ice cream for desert. The food is always delicious and affordable! read more

Wanted Mexican and tried this place first time today. Friendly, quick service. Seemed short staffed on servers was the only thing I noticed. Food was okay but I don't know I'd come back to eat again. The salsa had more onion than anything, sad to say. Ordered enchilada rice and beans and it was decent but maybe I should have ordered something else. At first I posted a complaint that part of our order was missing and left a 2 star review. My wife noticed the next day in the daylight that our missing guacamole was still in our car! My profound apologies to La Carreta and anyone that read that review! We found the food there was delicious and satisfying. I'll now take this egg on my face and make an omelette. read more

Great service along with hot, fresh food. Unfortunately, there were some loud patrons seated near me but that is not La Carreta's fault. It is a clean establishment with quick service. This place was recommended by a friend. The service and drink are in 4-5 star category. However, the taco salad is about a two star quality for me. It was really soggy and runny. I ate a bit of it and when asked if I wanted the rest to go I said no as there was no way this mess was going to make it into a togo box without getting all over the place. I may go back and try something else in the future but it won't be anytime soon. read more

This place was good but not anything too special. Came here for a late dinner. Chips were nice and warm but the salsa was a bit too watery for me I think it a little bit chunkier and hotter. For dinner I got the vegetarian burrito with was good but oddly had olives in it! I'm use to having onions broccoli or even squash but olives was a new experience! My bf got the cheese enchiladas which he wasn't a huge fan of he felt it was mostly cheese and something meant for a kids meal. We also got the fried jalapeños and were really surprised that it was literally a jalapeño put into a frier.. we were expecting the cheese stuffed ones that are usually breaded. I wish we would have gotten the waiters name. Tall and slim man very welcoming. He was the best! He brought us ice cream with cinnamon topped on it. The kids (and I) were so happy! I have been going to La Caretta since they opened when I was a kid. Ahem, a looooong time ago.. Some of the same employees that were there back then are still working today! The food is delicious and plentiful, and the service is awesome. Everyone that works there is seriously always so kind and treats you like you're an old friend. Not happy with your food? Just tell them and they will graciously make it right, though I've personally never had a complaint. Prices are reasonable too, especially in this day and age of skyrocketing food prices. This restaurant has excellent customer service. I ordered a queso dip appetizer and it was HUGE!! It was a white queso with chili's. The salsa a little peppery. The chimichanga was great! Service was excellent the server for lunch was the only one for lunch but was running mostly and did an excellent job. Not it, used to love it till last nights experience. I ordered a chimichanga and a roy Roger's, everyone got their drinks i was forgotten, my friend ordered a coke was given a cherry sprite, the food came out it was all the wrong items, the waiter seemed out of it and was too busy flirting and assisting the booth next to us full of women.. food comes and off the bat find hair in it, they used a cheap ground beef rather than shredded beef that came in their $3 taco anyways. Overall quality was terrible me and my friend ate maybe 3 bites could tell the plate was full of food and didn't even accept a togo box, waiter had the least common sense to see we didn't enjoy our food and I lucked out $37 bucks and no dinner. read more

I actually came here last November for lunch with my boss who was kind enough to take me along. I have also visited the La Carretta outlet near McLoughlin Bouvelard. I have chosen to give both restaurants four stars largely due to the physical conditions. Both venues are scrupulously clean, but a bit worn around the edges. The McLaughlin location wear is far more evident. The Gresham location has been in business I would guess since probably the mid1990s to early 2000s. The various employees were friendly and accomodating at every turn. I thought the food was fairly priced. My boss ordered beef fajitas, and I had carnitas tacos. We received excellent chips and salsa as well as rice and refrijos with the entree. Both portions were generous in size and served quickly. Of course, they were very tasty. Neither of us left hungry! The parking lot was easy to get in and out of and was nicely sized. Since I was there at lunch, there were no wandering troubadors for entertainment. There was low-volume instrumental music in the background which allowed for conversation. Neither of us used their restrooms, but as clean as everything else was, I rather suspect they were perfectly clean as well. I do recommend this location for great Mexican food and what looked like very yummy margaritas. I think you will enjoy the very friendly atmosphere as well. I know I will return. read more

I'm sorry this place is not good authentic Mexican food at all the food you see in the pic is what you get , never been served American cheese on a Mexican dish no cojita cheese in sight as a California native and Mexican food lover this is not it . A parking lot that is always full is a good sign. We have stopped in several times, and had takeout as well. I wouldn't say it is anything amazing, but it is what you would expect of a good mexican restaurant. Fair prices, large portions, tasty food. The building is aging, but it is well decorated. Prices are definitely lower than Mojave, but about on par with El Indio II (and food quality is pretty comparable to El Indio II). read more

Best tortilla soup in Gresham!! First rainy day of September, so soup sounded good. I've had this soup at other restaurants. The portion is very Hardy. A good place and staple of Gresham, pretty popular hang out spot for the "locals" so to speak. There are multiple locations but I've been to this one a dozen times. Staff is friendly, they remember the regulars and call you by name. Food is your normal Mexican food, I've never had anything bad there but I wouldn't say there is anything that just stands out and I HAVE to eat when I go there. I'm pretty picky with Mexican food, not bad but also nothing special for my personal taste. The reason I give this place a 3 star is because of the drinks! I LOVE their drinks, especially the consuela, it's my favorite! However; I came in yesterday for the first time in about 2 years and immediately noticed how smaller the consuela bowls are now. They've definitely skimmed back. Great hang out spot for happy hour after work with co workers. It's always pretty slammed in there too, especially around the lunch hour on the weekends. This place has totally gone down hill. I'm not sure how an authentic Mexican restaurant goes Tex Mex but I will not be coming back. My mother in laws burrito was full of cilantro and the completely made it wrong TWO times. Anyway thanks for not making it right when we addressed it. Always there to grab you another drink, bring you more chips n' salsa, and make excellent recommendations upon request. Plus they have both Pacifico and Negra Modelo on tap, my two favorite Mexican Lagers. Prices are between $11-15 for a normal dinner, which is enough for two not-so-hungry adults. Really do love this place. Right around the street from my girlfriend's pad, it's convenient, open late, and have some great specials. Their plates are HUGE...always hot, with a great quality of food. The happy hour specials are simply amazing. My girlfriend loves their big margaritas, and I have to admit, they look pretty spectacular. Just an appetizer is usually enough to feed me for the night. Their combination, with little friend taquitos, half a quesadilla, and nachos isn't only cheap, there's a ton of it. I'll take half of it home, if no one shares with me. Service has always been top notch, even at 10:30 or 11 at night on a weekday. I'll admit, the bar area is a little shabby, and has seen much better days, but somehow...it all works. I LOVE this place! The staff is always super friendly and efficient and the portions of food are massive! We come here a lot just bec you basically get 2 meals out of each plate, and the price is very reasonable. They hand out the chips and salsa like it's coming from an endless supply, and they put an entire pitcher of water on your table so you never have to track down your waiter when your glass is empty. We love this place! The food is good and the people are awesome. As with all the other reviews the portions are large so I have lunch the next day. That's a win, win in my book. I don't know what the people who "spit the food back on the plate" ordered but we have tried many different things on the menu (Combo fajita is our fave!) and have been pleased with everything. The salsa is awesome! Have to admit the onion chunks are a tad large but we just put them in the chopper when we order in and it's good to go!
