I had high hopes for this place. The service was so so. I think of we spoke Spanish, things would have gone better... Let's start with with the good first. The shredded and grilled Chicken was very good. That ships were fresh, and I believe homemade which made him very good. In addition, the bathroom was very clean. Now the not so good. I have been coming here for years and always had a great experience. The servers are friendly, my drinks and salsa never run dry! I love that when I order chicken I get breast, not dark meat. This location cooks the rice with lard and it is so flavorful. They are happy to accommodate special requests, I prefer to have green sauce instead of red, black beans instead of pinto and if you want some real heat ask for some jalapeño Fritos or hot salsa to go with your meal! We came here on a recommendation that they made good frozen drinks, as a little early birthday celebration. Walking in the door we were greeted and seated right away by the super friendly staff. The frozen margaritas did not disappoint!! Very good, and not too sweet. Between all of us we had the veggie fajitas, super nachos, chimichanga, and a tamale. Everything was hot and fresh, good quality, quantity and taste. To top the night off, we told our waiter we were celebrating a birthday. We had lunch here on a Saturday. This is a warm, congenial, homey restaurant that smells good as soon as you walk in. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. I ordered the Deluxe Tostada, vegetarian (beans and cheese on crisp lettuce), my partner got an enchilada plate, chicken, beans, and rice. My prior rating was for El Indio on Halsey. This one is for 194th &Stark. This latest takeout from El Indios Gresham was so much better! Ablondigis Soup was tasty and wonderful. I'm glad we tried their Guacamole, it might be the best we ever tried. The just noticeable hint of spice was impressive. My first visit, over 7 years ago started out bad. The waitress came around and asked us if we wanted any drinks, we said 2 margaritas and ordered Machos Machos. The drinks were good, the nachos were amazing. The bill was almost $60!!! The waitress took it upon herself to order the most expensive margarita on the menu, never told me the price or different price options. What made it worse was that I was stuck with the bill-they refused to discount my drinks. I left fuming and it took over a year before I went back, albeit more wise to their tricks. The food is always hot and looks like it was just made. So far everything I have tasted is very good-try the Arroz con Pollo, (one of my all time favs)! I don't go out to Gresham very often..or really ever at all...so yesterday when I ended up there by chance, one thing I noticed was that there were Mexican restaurants and grocery stores ALL OVER. Seeing that our quest was for Mexican food, I figured that was a great thing. Right? Sort of in the middle of all this authenticity? We stopped at El Ranchitos, and the place SCREAMED junky Mexican, which was what we were actually looking forward to. Chips and salsa were fine (we ate a ton, but I'm pretty sure the salsa was from a jar). Mole was NOT okay. My plate came to me, and I knew something was off because of the color. Granted, there are several varieties of the delicate sauce, but I'm pretty sure none of the recipes call for sugar-filled Jiffy peanut-butter as the main ingredient. Seriously! My pollo tasted like it was drenched in sugary peanut butter! This was NOT mole in the slightest! The beans were overcooked and had rubbery cheese on top, but the rice was actually okay. Also, I was a little weirded out because my tortillas came in a fabric quilted pouch instead of an insulated container, which makes me wonder how clean it was, because it's not easily washable. Hrmm.... For $12, I'm not going to go back for this disappointing food. My friend seemed to like the tamale and enchilada, so I'm assuming that if you order something less complicated, it might turn out fine. Also to note, I'm pretty sure they use MSG, even though it doesn't do anything for the food. Afterward, my friend had a headache, and I had to reach for the Imodium. I have been coming to this restaurant for the last few years. It's a very comfortable place to relax with a meal and a drink. The main waitress who is working every time I come here is always so accommodating and kind. I'm happy every time I walk in and she's here. Last time my boyfriend and I came, I ordered a second margarita and she brought a big enough one for the two of us to split! Who does that!? The food is always very well done. The carne asada is cooked to medium well like I ask and the tortillas are always fresh and homemade. The beans and rice are very traditional and full of flavor. I'm sorry, but the management is just down-right bad now. El Ranchito was featured in a local coupon book with a pay $10/get $20 worth of food certificate. We purchased it in mid-March and just tried to use it last night, March 31st. We were informed that the owner didn't like the deal (after they had signed the contract for the deal) and was no longer honoring the ALREADY PURCHASED certificates. They get one star because the food is still above average, and a second star because the waitress was well-trained and very apologetic over the coupon issue. She also informed us that she was putting in her notice this weekend to be moved back to her original El Ranchito location. Poor form, El Ranchito Gresham; poor form. read more

The Stark location has been a favorite of ours for many years. Many a Friday or Saturday evening would be there for a meal. We visited this past Tuesday evening, Christmas Eve. We found the music to be very very loud and not the regular style. The wait staff was very curt and not the usual friendly folks. It was a different staff than usual. The food was far less than par. The Premium Burrito was inedible. The steak was very chewy and laden with gristle. The veggies, beans, and rice were delicious and full of flavor. The meal was sent back and the wait staff was visibly upset by that act. We boxed up what was left of the other meal and went to the front to pay. The wait staffs attitude changed in not a good way. The usual wonderful friendly service disappeared very quickly. We paid and left. This was by far one of the worst experiences in a restaurant I've had. It's sad that this once wonderful place to go has fallen so far. The owner has neglected the building and it's upkeep. The bathrooms are horrendous. It's very odd that this location is so horrible when the Halsey location is far better in all ways. We will not be returning to the Stark location ever again. read more

To start of with, the food taste/quality salvaged this trip. Our service was AWFUL. We ordered our drinks (a pop and a beer) and it took almost 15 minutes to get them after we ordered. Our waiter came and took our order, which arrived relatively promptly, but he never came back to check on us or to get us refills until we were done eating. When that happened, I asked for a box and he never did bring that! We had to ask someone else. It wasn't even busy. We may go back again, in the hopes that last night was just a bad night. El Indio is great. Try the Mexican Pizza. Yes it's an appetizer but it's definitely big enough for a meal. Anything with shredded beef is awesome. The staff is always super nice. Went for the "Monday/Tuesday: 2 combos for $14" deal last night. I was disappointed that there are several combos of the same price (that were better options) that weren't included in the deal. The food we got was good, as usual, but the service was really slow. We were the only ones sitting in the bar (had to watch football) so we were probably forgotten about several times.
