Amazing Buffala Mozz

Incredible experience. Host was amazing - freeProsecco, great pizza, mostly locals,...amazing all around !!

Pizza Irene

We visited La Cantina several times during our visit to Tuscany last June, it was just that pleasant of an experience. Is it the most fabulous food you can eat in this part of Tuscany? Probably not, but it's pretty darn satisfying either way. There's an extensive menu consisting of all the classic favorites, a TON of woodfire pizza options as well as some more creative options. As a vegetarian, I had the rare luxury of choosing between numerous yummy sounding options. Everything we ordered was great. The most important ingredient to what makes this restaurant so charming though is Alessandro. The charismatic owner is the sheer definition of Italian hospitality and his charisma lures you right into his restaurant. It also helps that every (adult) guest gets offered a free glass of prosecco before their meal, often handed out to people waiting as well. Alessandro knows how to turn charm into business and you will be ordering deserts and promising him you'll be back later that week in no time. Sitting on the patio outside in warm temperatures brings the ultimate vacation vibes. That said, the inside of the restaurant is really unique so I'll definitely encourage you to go check it out.

Florentine Steak

This restaurant is right off the main street passing through Greve in Chianti. Staff was friendly and brought our table some free prosecco after we were seated that made for a pleasant experience considering how hot it was. Prices here were similar or on par with much of what can be found in Florence. Service was casual, not too slow nor too quick, which by American standards was what we found to be the norm in many parts of Italy. Florentine Steak - This hefty steak was roughly 1.2 kilograms. It was worth every euro. The thick cut steak is cooked rare and it really lets the flavor of the beef do all the talking... or mooing for itself. Lots of heavenly beefy flavor in that is a complete festival of joy in your mouth. The steak had a good chew that lets you get a lot out of every bite. Gnocchi - The pesto gnocchi with walnuts was spread out on a large plate rather than in a bowl. Made it easy for sharing with the members at our table. Gnocchi was cooked properly and the pesto flavor was lite. It wasn't overpowering, but the flavor was still there. Considered this more a side to be consumed with the Florentine steak and it did go well together. Truffle Pasta - The truffle pasta here was excellent. It didn't have heavy seasonings or overpowering flavors, other than the truffle that topped it. This allowed the truffle flavor and pasta itself to really present itself. Again... goes extremely well with the steak. Tiramisu and Strawberry Panna Cotta - The desserts here are very good, nothing out of the ordinary in many parts of Italy though. It's a nice to have if you're looking to finish your meal off on a sweet note. Oh... and if you have any steak left... I think it goes well with the steak too. In a nutshell, this was a great experience in Chianti. Alessandro also has a Chianti Classico that they bottle here for their house wine, which goes well with everything, especially the steak. It's worth a visit if you happen to be in this part of Tuscany. Oh... and if you didn't know, the steak here goes well with everything.

Amazing service and epic food. We all got pastas and mista salad. Plus, they gave us complimentary welcome wine and grappa and biscotti! Check it out!

Complimentary dessert

Can't recommend this place enough! We did a wine tour at castello verrazzano down the street and stayed at the accommodations overnight. We didn't have a a car (long story) and a worker from the restaurant picked us up for dinner and drove us home. The food was phenomenal, highly recommend the pizza and the ragu pasta. Greeted with Prosecco as soon as we sat down was the icing on the cake! Alessandro the owner was the man!

One of our favorite meals during our 10 days in Italy. Fantastic service. Fun setting. Big menu and great food! I liked that they came out with complimentary Prosecco before the dinner and a dessert wine after dinner.

DISREGARD THE "PIZZA" IN THE NAME. This restaurant produces top A+++ gastronomical meals, elegant, local and delicious. The ambience is exceptional and the shape of the rooms architecture keeps it quiet inside. I ordered 3 dishes, Tuscan Soup, R salad and ravioli gorgonzola w porcini sauce. Absolutely phenomenal salad! Che spettacolo! Free prosecco upon arrival, free vin Santo and dessert dolce plate.... dishes so tasty i could not stop....and am now in a food coma :) LoL

Pappardelle sugo di Cinghiale

This is a nice, local family-run pizzeria and Osteria along SR 222, a few blocks north of the main triangular piazza in Greve. A little off the beaten tourist path in Greve, but not so much that it's hard-to-find. We just happened into it while traveling down the 222 getting back to Siena. A great little place, and we'd definitely eat there again. Cozy inside dining room, outside patio, a nice broad menu of Tuscan favorites, and all at reasonable prices. The dishes were prepared perfectly. Service attentive and accommodating. Great choice of local wines. Host/Owner Alessandro was a very cordial host and helpful wine steward. (And when the owner suggests a bottle of Chianti Classico with his picture on the label, how can you refuse? It was just great, btw.) Worth checking out, especially when/if the main piazza in Greve gets overcrowded.

Recommended stop by our Florence Hotel for lunch or dinner. Absolutely cute as pie little village,…read morethe "Terrace" restaurant is surrounded by other eateries, shops, and a fantastic deli, too (which we discovered after we ate). A little attitude with our lunch: ======================= At first, we asked if it was the same place with the food we were seeing being served by the first floor coffeehouse/café...and the server/manager laughed and said, "Ohhhh no...they use microwave", and she proceeded to show us upstairs. Then, we were greeted by a young waiter. He showed us to a table, but since there was only diners at 2 tables and there was room at the edge of the terrace, we asked to be seated there. He scoffed, "Well, that is not the table I chose for you". Then, after we ate our pasta and risotto, we asked "Don't you serve bread at lunch?". He responded, "Well no, you had pastas...so we do not". This was actually funny, but we insisted...and glad we did. It was very good bread, a round focaccia...and warm and fresh. The menu, the order: ================= A very small and limited lunch menu. About 8 things total. The gf got a Tagliatelle with wild boar ragu, and i got a zucchini and onion risotto -- both small portions. The Tagliatelle was fresh with great tomato sauce, but about 6 pieces of very hard and inedible pieces of pork [2.5 stars, 12 euros]. The risotto was very good, but a little uneventful [4.0 stars, 12 euros]. The Mixed salad [3.5 stars, 9 euros] we ordered was fine, and as always, bottles at the table of olive oil and vinegar to do your own dressing. Great EVOO, but the vinegar was awful...a red wine vinegar vs a balsamic. Overall, great location, food was okay, but attitude/service was poor...wouldn't go again.

We were seated on the upstairs patio. You have a nice, open air, view of the central square. Service was quick and courteous. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced (not a surprise in Italy). We ordered starters, main courses and deserts. All of the dishes were nicely prepared. I particularly enjoyed the lamb for a main course. It was perfect. Although way too full we squeezed in deserts as well. Reservations are recommended.

A little off the main piazza, Wine Lovers Academy offers multiple flight options, wine classes, lunch, and most of all, relaxation. Since I was traveling solo this day, I was hesitant to try a wine tasting alone, since I thought it would be boring, but not with Marco around! He made everyone who stopped in feel like they were popping into their house for a glass of wine. Perhaps my favorite part of the experience was how unique my tasting was. He carefully chooses the wines based on your preferences, so you have the chance to try different things that you are more apt to like, unlike most tastings, where everything is pre-set. Marco has also designed this very cool wine game that is great for small to medium sized groups - a twist on the normal tastings in the area. Looks like TONS of fun. Oh. And, if you get a chance to stop by, make sure to say hello to the groundhog family that lives behind the academy in the stream. Be sure to stop by! A fun time is waiting for you at Wine Lovers!

We had been on the trek to Greve, and not purchased anything, nor had any great experiences. On the way back to our farmhouse (Antico Borgo San Lorenzo) we stopped in town to purchase some vino for our fridge. We walked in here, and were warmly greeted by Manuela. She insisted that we come sit at the rustic table, and try some wine with her. What an experience! Before we knew it, there were 5+ bottles open - plus olive oil, balsamics & bread. We were delighted as she guided us through local wines. It was a far better experience than we had found in Greve. After an hour we realized that locals were coming in & filling their own bottles with wine - something we had never seen. They have 2 reds, and 1 white on tap to "fill your own bottle" - for 1.5 euro a liter! You can purchase a bottle there, or fill your own. We immediately emptied all of our water bottles, and purchased straw covered chianti bottles to refill with house vino. The kids filled and corked bottles for the next 30 minutes. We left with: (3) 2 liter water bottles of their premium red, a giant chianti bottle of white, several bottles we enjoyed at their table, and the BEST balsamic we've ever tasted. But the biggest thing we left with was a smile. This place is the real deal, and worth a stop if you're in the Siena area. It's a fun little local find you'll want to treasure.
