This is a nice restaurant. It's fairly close to where I live, so I eat here fairly frequently. The staff is nice, and the service is fast. You'll get your food before you have a chance to devour that basket of free chips. I've tried many things on the menu, and never had anything I didn't enjoy. They also have a large variety of margaritas to choose from. There are some unique items on the menu, and these are a couple of family favorites that you may want to try: Enchiladas Lemon Lime: I have not seen a lemon lime sauce on enchiladas anywhere else. It's a tasty change of pace from the Mole enchiladas that I tend to get at other restaurants. They are not overwhelmingly citrusy, just enough that you know there is a citrus situation going on. Alambre: My son loves this, and orders it every time. It's a pile of steak, onions, peppers, cheese, and bacon; yes bacon, all sitting on a plate of tortillas. Bacon sounds like an odd ingredient at a Mexican restaurant, but I have tasted it, and the bacon does add a little something. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Really nice little restaurant. Service was very, very fast. They had sports on in the dining room when I got there, but they changed it to music. I would not have minded the sports. The food was really good. I had the pollo encremado. It was really quite lovely. I was a bit nervous because the first jalapeno was super hot, but the cream in the dish was enough to balance it out. This was my second time visiting this restaurant. I invited a friend because I had a very good impression after my first visit in March and was happy to come back. Unfortunately, this time I was quite disappointed. The selection of vegetarian dishes was very limited. I asked if it was possible to order a vegetarian burrito, but unfortunately that was not an option. Overall, though, the food itself was okay. The main disappointment was the service. We were served by a middle-aged man named Carlos, I believe (Order: A-3-A). He seemed very irritated and unhappy throughout our visit and never smiled. At one point, he brought my friend her coffee and placed it on the table so abruptly that about a third of the coffee spilled onto the saucer. He did not apologize or acknowledge what had happened. He was not openly rude to us, but we simply did not feel welcome as guests. His attitude made us feel as though serving us was an inconvenience or a favor rather than part of his job. I was especially uncomfortable because I had invited my friend there and had recommended the restaurant to her based on my previous experience. It is unfortunate that the attitude of one person can have such a significant impact on the overall impression of a restaurant. Based on this experience, we are unlikely to return, which is disappointing because I had really enjoyed my first visit. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, because the food was fine, but good service and making guests feel welcome are just as important. read more

Visited La Cantina for the first time on a recent Saturday night. My friend and I arrived around 7:30pm and it was pretty empty. First impression was that the atmosphere could use a little improvement- it's wildly bright and starkly quiet, so really no ambiance at all. Perhaps it feels a little more comfy when the restaurant is full, but that sort of thing stands out in my opinion. Our server brought waters and gave us time to look over the menu. The time was needed because boy do they have tons of options! From tacos, burritos and fajitas, to molcajete, steak dishes, and an array of apps, they've got plenty to pick from. I was craving tacos and my friend recommended the quesabirras. She was right, they were super tasty. The beef birria had so much flavor and I loved the broth for dipping. Some restaurants tend to give those small tacos but these were sizable! I left full and satisfied in the food department. We also split a pitcher of lime margaritas. Can't say I enjoyed those, sadly. It was pretty stark green and really sweet. Personally, I'm not a fan of the pre-mixed margs, and unfortunately this was what that tasted like. Couldn't finish the pitcher. They do however, have huge marg towers I saw another table sharing, which is fun. Maybe the frozen version would be more to enjoy. I wouldn't jump to return here, but also not against giving a place a second chance. We shall see! read more

I'm so so happy we found this place! The staff was so friendly and the restaurant is decorated with such a fun style. We stopped in for lunch and had amazing food and drinks. Another great visit! My wife loves their taquito. The kids love the kids menu they have great options. The kids got a been and cheese burrito and they got the fun happy face shaped fries as a side! I got the grilled chicken quesadilla which also was delicious! The staff is super attentive and helpful! The restaurant is clean and they got TVs throughout playing different games that are going on throughout the day! This was another great visit! This past weekend some friends and I visited La Cantina and were very impressed. I'm not sure if they've made adjustments since some of these other reviews or what but we were all happy! First, I felt like they did a great job with the renovation. It doesn't give DQ vibes at all. And it was very clean (including the bathrooms which I'm sure they put a lot of work into since the previous owner). We really liked the chips and salsa, the salsa was a little on the runny side but had a lot of flavors and was just a tad spicy which was great (not overwhelming but too spicy for kids). We got a variety of dishes including tacos, enchiladas, flutas, chimichangas, and of course a kids chicken tender with smiley fries (big hit with the little ones). Over all we were all really happy with our meals. Definitely more options and more authentic than the other Mexican restaurant in Cedarburg. You can tell the staff knows what they're doing with their menu items and the tastiness of the food. Our server was great, and food was hot and ready very quickly. We will definitely be back. I only wish for their sake they had a more unique name as I worry people will inevitably end up going to the wrong restaurant. read more

Decided to stop in and grab some tacos to go on my way home. It's nearly renovated so everything is super clean. The menu is pretty large so there's probably something for everyone including a decent vegetarian menu. I tried to inquire whether or not options were vegan and they were not able to answer at this time. I ended up going with the Carne Asada tacos, which included three tacos, rice, and beans and tortilla chips along with one hot cup. Once I got home, I was immediately impressed by the size of the three tacos. They appear to be traditional Mexican style tacos, but they are in very large tortillas and there is a huge amount of meat. I would give the tacos themselves a four out of five. The rice and beans were also quite good, but maybe a little small? Overall I think the value of $15 for the three tacos and rice and beans is super legit. I love authentic Mexican food so when I heard this place was opening nearby, I had to try them out. I visited on a random weekday, early in the daytime, shortly after they opened for the day. The place was clean, there were several waiters/servers standing around the main room and we were greeted at the door by one, then promptly seated in a booth. There were 2 other tables with people already sitting with drinks near the back, and one other group who walked in after us being taken to a table in the middle of the room. After we were seated, it took our waiter nearly 20 minutes to greet us and take our drink orders (honestly we were discussing just getting up and leaving when he walked over), and since it took that long, we were ready to order our food, as well. I ordered the Quesabirria tacos with a side of fries instead of beans, and my husband ordered the Burrito Croqueta lunch plate. They brought over chips and salsa with our drink orders to snack on before our plates came out, and they were actually really good. When the food arrived, the server forgot the fries and the cup of birria broth that went with my meal. The quesabirria was very soggy, more than what it should have been. I know they are dipped in the broth prior to frying up, but mine was falling apart soggy, like it wasn't fried long enough or just sat in the broth way too long. I couldn't lift up a portion of the taco to eat without the tortilla disintegrating onto my plate before reaching my mouth. I ended up eating a "salad" of mushy tortilla chunks, onion, cilantro, and cheesy shredded beef. Definitely was disappointed that the experience of eating one of my favorite foods wasn't a fun one, but the flavor was decent enough, at least. And the fries dipped into the birria broth was delightfully good. My husband liked his lunch and had no major complaints, just that the beans were kind of flavorless and that the waiter took a long time to refill his Sprite cup when it was empty and waiting at the edge of the table. I may return to try some of the other menu items but am not feeling eager to. If I happen to be in the immediate area and hungry for something, I'd consider stopping in again. read more

This review is for La Cantina in Cedarburg - NOT Lime Cantina. Unfortunately Yelp keeps moving my review because it can't recognize there are two businesses with similar names in the same town. We are always excited when someplace new opens in the area, especially with all the Mexican restaurants that are well below average. Sadly, this is no better. It opened in the former Dairy Queen and they have done a great job with the remodel. We were shocked how many tables they have. Although they may want to remove one so people can get around without banging into other tables - especially near the bar. I give them a lot of credit as it was very busy and they seem to be running it very well. They were well-staffed and everyone knew their role. The menu is huge; perhaps even overwhelming. Unfortunately the food did not fair nearly as well. The chips and salsa were incredibly disappointing. The salsa was more like canned tomato sauce with a few seasonings. It had very little flavor. The chips had no seasoning, and tasted like they were mass produced. You know it's bad when my husband won't finish the basket. I was very excited to find a place that serves parrillada locally. Especially since Jalisco's went out of business. I did find it a bit odd that the menu mentioned all the vegetables that it did, but I decided to give it a try. It was not like any parrillada I've ever had. And I don't mean that in a good way. They were served as fajitas, minus the sizzle. Overall the flavor was very, meh. Nothing was terribly bad, but I absolutely would not order it again. The shining star of meal was the guac and the pico that came on the side. My husband ordered the Al Pastor tacos, which traditionally include pineapple. Sadly there wasn't any, and the meat was quite bland and flavorless. That seemed to be the running theme. We determined very quickly during our meal that we don't need to return. Update: an hour after arriving home I had terrible nausea and stomach pain. read more

Disappointing. There was a large crowd on the evening of 5-24-24, but based on our experience, most of the crowd was, like us, trying La Cantina for the first time. Let me begin with the good: they have done a fine job converting the old Dairy Queen. The dining area is well lit due to the amount of windows, however, the dark walls are a little drab - I would expect more Mexican themed decoration. The service was good - especially given that nearly every table was occupied - and friendly. That's where the good ends. Greeted with chips and salsa, the chips were ok - however the salsa tasted more like puréed tomatoes, lacking much flavor and in need of a salt. There are way too many tables, making walking an obstacle course when the restaurant is busy. Entrees were decent, not great. I had the enchiladas pablano. Many of the entrees do not include rice and beans, which one would expect, but they can be had as sides for $4 EACH! $4??? They will need to adjust that, long-term. Also they will CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD 3%. Anyway, not bad, just disappointing. In my opinion Lobos in Grafton has the best Mexican in the area, so between the food, salsa, and 3% surcharge for using a credit card, we most likely won't be back. read more

I hate to say this, especially about a restaurant that just opened. The food was terrible. I've eaten plenty of every-day, unremarkable, TexMex and have been perfectly fine with it. I'm not fussy that way. If the food is ok, I'm ok. If anything about the restaurant is better than ok, I'll have good things to say about the place and go back more than once. That's not happening. The greasy chili relleno was slathered in a pale flavorless sauce. It was served with instant rice and a quesadilla filled with unseasoned beans and cheese. Altogether, the meal was bland and slimy, with no texture, color or taste. This was true of the chips (which were hard, not pleasantly crisp, and not salted) and salsa, as well. My partner, never a complainer, had an equally disappointing meal and asked, once we were out the door, "We don't have to go back again, do we?" I feel like I just threw $50 away. We eat at a lot of restaurants including those with Mexican food. This new place has terrible service and the food is below average. The waiter spoke Spanish with very little English. That's never been a problem because we can speak enough Spanish. But he just didn't get it. We had a reservation but people that just walked in were seated first and there was no communication. We ordered a grapefruit drink. There was no mention of alcohol on the menu or salt but it came with alcohol and a salted rim. We don't drink alcohol. The food served didn't match the menu description. We will never go back. Four of us went to try out new restaurant yesterday. It was 6:00 not that busy. Got seated and a waiter came to get our drink order.My wife ordered a house Margarita for $10, it came and was soooo watered down. We ordered our dinners. It took quite awhile before our food came. I had the fish tacos.I've never seen a worse taco. You had to look really hard to find the fish.It was ground up mixed in with the toppings. The other 3 had burrito.All four of our meals were not hot at all. It wasn't the waiters fault.
