I order caldo de res, when my husband paid they charge $18.99, for the soup they have on the menu for $10.99, I asked why is the doble the price, when I said that, the lady said the price go up if I want she can return the money, my husband go over there and she ask for the soup, my husband tell her we eat part of the soup, because the soup no was good, to fat, and she give back only $10.00 and she said she go to call the police to my husband. Grocery: I give the grocery 3's overall. The store is a good size with a wide variety of products that include dry goods, frozen, refrigerated and fresh products and meats. I did find a few of the products to be marked higher than I am accustomed to. Also be aware to check product dates. I did find some Achiote/Paprika that was well out of date. Restaurant: I give the restaurant 3's. It was cooked to order, authentic and tasted good overall. I kind of thought the tacos were small as far as the size of the corn tortilla as well as portion of meat. But I did end up satisfied. The sopes are home style and made of corn meal/masa. They come with several toppings that include beans and your choice of meat. Those were my favorite. I would pass or the side of rice and beans next time. They weren't anything special. Looking for legit Mexican food? Look no further than La Canasta. The front of the establishment is a mom and pop grocery store. They carry everything from snacks and decor to pots and pans. Walk through the store towards the back. There, sandwiched between a wall of beverages and the meat/cheese counter are three tables. Have a seat. Someone will be by with a menu. (If you are looking to place a to go order stand at the meat counter.) Menu is both in Spanish and English. Menu has a bit of everything. Even some items not commonly seen on menus out here. I was given a few minutes to look over the menu, then they took my order. While my food cooked, two bottles of salsa were brought to my table. One was an orange-ish red. That is the spicy salsa. It has a nice roasted flavor with a burn that lingers for a bit. The green salsa is a tomatillo salsa. This one is vey classic. It is refreshing; not spicy at all. My burrito was stuffed. All the ingredients seemed fresh. If you want something to drink just grab it from the coolers. When you are done, head up to the register. Let them know what and how many bottles you grabbed. They will ring you up for both food, drinks and anything else you may want to buy all at once. read more

I stumbled across this little Mexican grocery store and restaurant by accident while looking for a different Mexican restaurant. Been stuck ever since! I'm totally addicted to their authentic steak tacos! They are perfectly seasoned with the right amount of cilantro and onions on a corn tortilla! Simple but yet delicious! I've found myself shopping at their grocery store while waiting on my food several times. If you enjoy making Spanish or Mexican dishes at home this is definitely the place to shop because they will have all those hard to find ingredients that you need! Alright I'm going to go 3 star. I used to live in Bellevue and LOVE La Mexicana. Super delish and fresh Mexican food, homemade tortilla chips, etc. Love that place. I moved away from Bellevue though and started looking for a new go-to. After trying (and being disappointed) by a few places stumbled on La Canasta. The 4 small tables in the back of a grocery store heartened me since I figured family-run and I like to support. We've gotten chicken tacos, al pastor tacos, chicken quesadilla and tortas here. They do not give you chips (which is fine). Overall I think their food is good BUT I'd 100% pick La Mexicana over La Canasta given the choice. My husband prefer their chicken to La Mexicana's and their quesadilla in their cheese wins generosity wise but La Mexicana has a much better al pastor, better tacos/tortillas and better tortas overall. I still go here though due to convenience. So with the COVID-19 lock down, I'm still making my rounds to ensure I'm buying from small businesses and supporting them. Obviously I ordered a carryout torta. I think I might have gotten a huarache? I even checked the menu to ensure to double check I wasn't off. My torta had beans, no cheese, no avocado, no onion and only a dab of mayo. They list their tortas as having lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese, avocado, jalapeno and mayo. I asked for no tomato (and got it that way), but I'm really thrown off my the addition of beans and the fact it was missing onion, avocado and mayo. So not sure if the person making it got confused and mixed up their huarache and torta but yeah. I was bummed. I had been craving a torta but after eating it regretted my choice (should have gone with my other inclination of hitting up a local diner for a burger + fries). Overall: Would pick this over other Mexican restaurants in the area. Not as good as La Mexicana but good! They don't know how to make their dishes so hit or miss on whether or not you get what you order. Hence the 3 star rating. read more

You'd never think you were in America walking into this place. It's a Mexican grocery that doubles as a taqueria and a butcher shop offset from the street and very easy to drive by. They sell so many international foods, spices and products that I often come in to buy random Mexican treats with my tacos. This place is unbelievable! Beef tongue, trip, lamb and all the tradition meats are served with the tacos here and this ain't a lettuce and tomato type of spot. Please don't come Here looking for sour cream! This place is authentic as it gets for Mexican food! My husband craves his comfort food, Menudo, (which is great for a hangover, by the way) but it is very hard to find in the midwest. I happened by La Canasta and it was perfect! The grocery is in the front with the few tables and chairs in the back where they will serve you. This place is very basic and as long as you don't expect anything fancy, you will be OK. The food makes up for any disappointments you may have about the look of the place. This is a very typical Mexican market like we had in Southern California. My husband's heart was warmed by the Menudo and a lengua taco. I had the lengua torta which was AMAZING! The meat melts in your mouth and the amount of toppings was perfect. The bread was soft and super yummy! The hot sauces were unique and very good. We couldn't leave without browsing the grocery store section and taking home some pan dulce, candies that reminded my husband of his childhood and some napoles (cactus) to cook at home. Their meat counter has a lot of different cuts and prepared meats and I will be sure to visit again, especially in the summer for bbq time. So this little hidden gem is in the back of a Mexican grocery store. There are only a few tables and if there is a soccer game going on, seating can be sparse! My boyfriend brought me here because this has been a favorite staple of his and I will admit, the atmosphere was definitely unique but the food was crazy good. FYI: you sit down and someone helps you- if you want something from the fridge you just grab it and you pay at the front. This was awkward for me because I did not know this haha! I ordered the carnitas con arroyos, frijoles y tomato. It was one of their options on the "plates" options. The carnitas were SO TENDER they fell right off the bone. To say the meat was delicious is an understatement... they tasted like delicious meat butter. I'm drooling. There was an avocado on top and all of the sides (tomato,onion, refried beans, fresca cheese, and rice) were incredibly fresh and tasty. My boyfriend ordered 2 tacos, and a cuban torta. My food was too good, I didnt try his because I didnt want to share. I think this would be such a cool place to hang out and watch a soccer game! What an amazing little gem. This neighborhood Mexican grocery has a taqueria hidden in the back. My wife and I have been coming here for years and I have tried most everything on the menu. I don't think I have ever had carnitas quite as amazing as the ones here. The best way to get the carnitas is stuffed into a large torta sandwich, which they layer with refried beans, avocado, pickled jalapeños, and more. They have a variety of other meats as well, including more exotic ones like lengua, tripas and cesos. All are delicious. Last but not least, check out the butcher section while you are waiting for your food to be prepared. This brief review is for the restaurant in the back, behind the packaged dry goods, between the deli and the beverages. This hole-in-the-wall has three tables and makes orders fresh, using the same ingredients it sells in the grocery (I have seen the cook take a package of chorizo right out of the refrigerated compartment to make tacos), and this practice extends to the drinks. There is no bar or soda fountain, just take a bottle; there's no diet caffeinated soft drink, and I recommend the Mexican Coca-Cola over the Pepsi that came from Central America and has a bad aftertaste, even though Pepsi tastes better than Coke when comparing their US versions. If you like salsa verde, Univisión on full blast, onion and cilantro on your tacos (no Taco Bell style cheese and lettuce here), and meats that you don't find in most taquerías (like chorizo, tripe, and cow tongue), this is a good place to get some little soft-shelled tacos; they're a little pricey but worth it. read more
