A friend and I selected a patio table here after a nice bike ride from Banks to Vernonia. Thank god we did! The team at La Cabaña is a fun time and will be ready to make you believe in Mexican cuisine of small towns. Our server, "Martha12" as the receipt indicated, was a blast. She was non-stop jokes and sass, especially given that I am a very white man who clearly rarely consumes this fantastic cuisine. We started simple with carona, limes, and some chips. After some time reviewing the very large menus, she came and took our orders. Each of us went with an enchilada and burrito, with added refried beans to load up on more carbs and protein. We had ample time to relax, and the large umbrellas made me happy to be out of the sun. I ordered a piña colada, and holy heck, did it ever come in the largest cocktail glass known to man. Thank god I had help to consume it with a friend. The indoor space is quaint and small, so I expect in cooler weather that it would be hard to find seating. In summer there are several outdoor seating areas. There aren't many places to keep bikes when eating, so the team recommended the alley nearby. Ours ended up being safe, but, I would definitely recommend bringing locks. Parking should be ample, and the cute small town streets were a nice vibe. Mary and I stopped in here for a late lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated. It was clean, nice painted Mexican type wall murals and art. There's two very good Mexican places in town but this one is the better in my opinion. It's small, Very authentic Mexican fare at reasonable prices. Abundant portions so you won't leave hungry. There is a decent size Mexican population in the area so a mediocre Mexican place wouldn't last long here. You won't go wrong patronizing either and I've eaten at both several times. But this one is my absolute favorite when I'm out in Columbia County. read more

Friendly staff! Great food! Fun drinks! We stopped in to La Cabana for dinner while camping nearby at Stubb Stewart. They accommodated our group of 5 easily. We ordered drinks and tortilla soup right away. The tortilla soup was fantastic! It's a must try! The drinks were fun. Our server had never made one of the drinks we ordered before and warned us but she did a great job! They have a large menu with tons of options. They have options for kids that might not be Mexican food fans and many vegetarian options as well. We ordered several meals, pictures included of a couple of them. Everything was served hot and was flavorful. The meats were well seasoned and veggies seemed fresh. We were all happy with our meal choices. Great food, fantastic server, awesome experience. We flew through our food so I didn't get pictures but it was very good. The experience started out with a super friendly server. He sat down a party of 5. (2 of them being kids). We got 2 plates of chips, beans, and salsa while we waited for our meal. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and quiet. Once our main dishes arrived, we gobbled it down. I had the Mexican pizza, and it was very well done. The kids shared a quesadilla meal, which was abundant enough for them both. I should have written a review last fall because that would have been five stars. However, this experience was very different. Then: I took a chance and asked if the tamales were small and filled with ground beef, the server went back to ask and came back with a yes. This is what I grew up eating in Texas, in the northwest most are shredded pork with almost an inch of Mesa surrounding the meat. My husband ordered the burrito asada. We were both in heaven. Fast forward to today. I ordered the ground beef tamales and my husband ordered the same burrito asada. What I received were fatter shredded beef tamales and the husband's asada was overly salted. I asked what happened to the ground beef tamales because I was so looking forward to it from last time. The server said that the tamales were always made first thing in the morning. I left them uneaten. There was NO attempt to make it right. To make the visit more memorable, we were told after the meal that we had to go and get cash because the card reader was down. $7 in ATM fees later, we were finally able to leave. Tips: ALWAYS ask what the tamale of the day is for that day. And ask whether they are a cash only service for that day as well. read more

I rode my bike from Banks to Vernonia today, arriving at noon and quite hungry after a grueling 22 mile journey. The young lady welcomed me warmly and let me sit at one of the outside tables on the sidewalk. Chips, salsa and bean dip were brought out within seconds of my arrival, and were delicious. It was s beautiful sunny day. She served me a frosty Negra Modelo beer and took my order, the Chile Rojo burrito with rice and beans. It was a wonderful meal. And their bathroom is the cleanest I've seen in a long, long time, anywhere. I'll be back soon to this quaint, clean and delicious little restaurant in the green hills of Western Oregon. Chose this place based on Yelp reviews. Unfortunately it did not meet expectations. Pros: reasonably friendly and quick service, ok food, and clean restroom. Cons: food just ok, crowded dining room, no greeting/had to seat ourselves and biggest con -- very dirty! Floors, tables and menu VERY sticky, piles of dirty towels in corner and years of accumulated dust on decor throughout restaurant. It is my sincere hope is that this is not a reflection of the kitchen cleanliness. It certainly diminished my appetite. We will not return. read more
