This is a surprisingly large restaurant for a restaurant in a shopping strip. It's in a corner with two very large dining rooms brightly decorated in Mexican decor. One room has lots of booths and tables and the other can be reconfigured for larger groups/tables. This restaurant is perfectly situated close to the base and are very open to hosting large groups. I have hosted two events here and the service was fast and the waiters are great at splitting up checks. The Mexican food is good. One of my favorite dishes is the Carne Asada. It comes with rice and beans and some veggies. They also have a large drink assortment and bar. The food is generally really good. I recommend trying them. read more

This is a go to dinner spot for my wife and I because the food is always consistently good, the staff is so nice, and the kids menu is toddler approved (she scarfs down the rice and enchiladas every time which is amazing for picky eaters). Ordered takeout online. Order confirmation email gave a time it would be ready which was about twenty minutes too soon before it was actually ready. Then when we got home we discovered one of the sides (extra corn tortillas) had not been included. And then when we sat down to eat we discovered the burrito was made with beef instead of the chicken that we ordered. 2024 I went for lunch. Sat by the bar, it was slow. Ordered chicken soup and coffee. Food was mediocre. I was reading a book while waiting to digest my meal and wait for the waitresses to come by so that I can ask for the check. All of a sudden I noticed something big and dark crawling on the floor. It was a huge roach, bigger than a quarter. It was so fat that it was dragging on the floor. I almost threw up my lunch and had a panic attack. Hmmm I normally want to give in average a higher rating, but this place was so disappointing it made me sad. I ordered a soup and a Chile relleno. The soup was cold and too salty ( there is NO fixing too salty),and the chille relleno was not a chile relleno. It was a tiny hill of cheese with a few slices of pepper with something that tasted like canned beef. Overall, there is no excuse for a restaurant to serve you a cold oversalted soup. Been there several times and I always found it to be passable at best. Today was different and I had the Chili Verde. It was delicious and just about as good as I have ever had. The salsa seemed better than I remember as well and the chips were fresh and hot! I don't know if it's me, the dish itself, or if something has changed from previous. Don't care, it was awesome and don't change it. If you are reading this Cabana, I would like to see a Chili Verde burrito served up with verde sauce, "CHEDDAR" cheese over top. Tucson style! First we walked in to several people waiting at an empty counter to pay. There wasn't an employee in sight so we sat and waited. Ten minutes later a waitress came and sat us. We ordered our food and drinks and everything seemed normal. We sat for THIRTY MINUTES waiting on our food when our server finally returned to tell us that they didn't have what we ordered and that we needed to order something else. We should've just left then. Another 20 or so minutes passed and we finally received our steak tacos. By this time we had filled up on chips and wasted so much of our day that we just took them to go. We were told to pay at the counter where we ofc waited another 10-15 minutes for someone to check us out. I only give this place 2 stars since the house margaritas were really good. Honestly coming to this restaurant knowing last time i checked their reviews, it was like three stars and cockroaches in the alfredo , i honestly didn't want to come but it was good! The only wrong thing i noticed is that if you have a large party, they wait til all the food is ready and while the other plates wait it gets cold and my table experienced that. No cockroaches, just slightly cold food. The dessert is really good though! I rate it five just for the good food, would've been 4 but ill let the slightly cold food slide. read more

La Cabana is a great place! We order take out from them at least once a week, especially since COVID it. The food is always tasty and they're pretty quick, usually food is ready in about 15 minutes. Our favorite choices are the Hawaiian Grilled Chicken, the shrimp tacos and the enchiladas del mar. They give military discount every day, which is nice too as there are a couple others in the area that don't give a discount. Keep up the great work and we'll keep ordering! read more

We've been coming here since we moved to Bonaire 6 yrs ago and never complained. Tonight was awful and disappointing to say the least. My son got a quesadilla with a side of rice and I had chicken nachos. My nachos were just ok, I've had them that were way better. There was hardly any cheese on them, but whatever. My son's quesadilla he said was also just ok, had better from there. But the rice.... the rice! It LOOKED over cooked, almost like Asian "sticky rice". My son tried it and said it was gross. I tried it to make sure and it was complete mush when I took a bite.... clearly overcooked. Here's the most disappointing part. When I told the waitress.... the owner, Miguel came over and asked what was wrong with it. I asked if he saw it because you could tell by looking that it was overcooked and almost a mash potato consistency and he said, "yes, it was just cooked so that's why it's like that...". HUH?!?!? No, sir that's a terrible "excuse". I mean we've been regulars for 6yrs and I was shocked that he thought I'd buy that excuse. Anywho, there's plenty of other and much more consistent Mexican places in town to eat at. read more

Solid Mexican fare. Food is average to slightly above average. We had a party of eight and no complaints with the food or service. Chips were fresh and hot and the salsa was good. Each of us had our own salsa bowl. The carne asada was good but the steak was cut near paper thin so my order of med rare was not happening. Beans and rice were good as well. My wife's carnita plate was good. The meat was cooked and seasoned well. Two in our party ordered burgers and fries. They were big and juicy and looked very good! Prices were fair and service was good and at tentative. They even sprout avocado seeds and sometimes give them to customers to take home and try their hand at growing a tree! My folks go here every Sunday after church. All in all a solid place to enjoy a good meal. read more

The food was good.....before the incident! My parents went once before so they decided to make it a family dinner so we all went. Long story short, my father and I both got chicken and steak alfredo and he found a big roach in his food. So gross! I kind of discovered this place by accident. I went into this little strip, hoping to try the Cuban sandwich place next door, but true to the hype I've been hearing about them, they were packed. So then I noticed La Cabana a few doors down and semi remembered having eaten there a year or so ago and thought, What the hell, and gave it another try. Not a bad Mexican resturaunt at all. Very clean and spacious and they're apparently doing some minor remodeling to open it up a little more. The service is quick and friendly and though they did screw up my order a little (my chicken soft taco somehow became a crunchy beef taco), I didn't really mind because the replacement was pretty good and it was, after all, the busy lunch time rush. This is pretty much a good place for a quick, but nice lunch that's not too pricey and the fact that it's right there on the freeway is perfect if you need to make a an insanely quick getaway for whatever reason. I had a simple meal of an enchilada and rice and beans, but did sample my lunch companion's chicken soup and salad, which were delicious. The salsa was exceptionally good, being the right combination of spicy but also sweet. And, not overloaded with garlic, like a lot of the places in the area. read more

New to the area, live close by and decided to try this place. Best Mexican we've had in a long time. Salsa tastes fresh, chips are warm & light. Ordered Hawaiian chicken (sounds crazy in a Mexican restaurant) but it was delicious! Very fresh tasting I recommend the lunch portion. Husband ordered the street tacos which he raves about! It typically come in on Sundays and it's been really good. Quick seating, fast service, fast and good food. If I had to complain on one thing it would be that the happy hour margaritas don't include strawberry just lime so that's a thumbs down but otherwise everything is pretty awesome. read more

This USED to be my favorite Mexican since the staff was friendly and close to the house. But never will I eat here again. Last time we went It was all going great until it was time to go and I put my sons left overs in the Togo box. I found 2 hairs mixed in his rice and meat! Giving them the benefit of doubt I was like ok maybe that's our hair. I continued boxing it up. When I got home and warmed him up the leftovers there was MORE HAIR!!!!!!!!! My stomach churned. Seeing as how this was not the first time I found hair in my food from here. It was to late to complain about it. NASTY NASTY! I will never go back. I don't usually post reviews but I feel I need to because this is so bad. The food is decent but they fail miserably at making a margarita. I've tried taking the family there and we sent back pitcher after pitcher top shelf...frozen...I just don't get it. It was like watered down OJ and bad sour mix with cheap tequila in it. Made me gag! Tonight was the first time I had been in almost a year and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt but it was worse....MUCH worse. We sent back the "top shelf" yellow sour mess and got frozen...the actually were the same drink with frozen ice blended in! We had one person just get frozen and it was OK so we knew what happened. We sent those back too and the girl that came to our table to ask us what was wrong with our drinks had a terrible attitude! She was RUDE! We almost left right then but my daughter is a bartender and she went to the bar to try and help. We finally got frozen drinks that were drinkable but they tried to bill us for all the drinks we sent back! I'm DONE. Never again. I like a Margarita with my food and there are WAY too many other Mexican restaurants around to choose from. Sad. I do not live in Cali, so i don't know why it says i do. read more

Maybe the best out of the Mexican restaurants out there, at least for me, because it has a lot of things going for me. The location, closest Mexican place now that El J has moved further up Russel, is great and the entry and exit out of the little shopping plaza is a breeze. Maybe too easy as I get back to work too soon sometimes. This place was extremely disappointing. They are very expensive and charge for every possible item. I ordered tamales and added one extra ala carte. When I asked for cheese they charged me 1$ to put it on 1 tamale and 1$ to put it on the other 2. With all the extra charges the total for 4 adults and 2 children was 75$ on the lunch menu. They also added in gratuity b/c with my children we were a party of 6. I did not realize they offered a military discount until after we paid and they refused to refund us the discount. When La Cabana first opened, it was really good! But then it seems the food just got blander and blander. And their cheese dip is the worst in town. It is so watered down and runny that it doesn't even stay on the chip. And even when the sauce cools off, it is still way too thin. Cheese sauce is a favorite of my family, but I'm not about to pay good money for that watered down cheese. The servers are always very nice and pleasant.
