There was a small pice of plastic bag in my chicken burrito. The piece of plastic bag was as big as a half dollar bill. They would get a 5 out of 10 if the plastic bag was not in my burrito. The staff was nice. The place was clean. The red salsa had a strange flavor for me and I didn't like it. The the green salsa tasted like jalapeños, it was ok. The only reason I know is because I've used up one of their frequent buyer cards, if not two. It's cheap, and it's close by since it's at Northside. I haven't gone back for a while, and two days ago I decided to drop by since I wasn't in the mood for La Val's and was out of cash. Unfortunately, their burritos still taste the same (pretty mediocre and somewhat bland), just like how I always remembered them. I actually felt kind of sick after eating about half of my burrito, but I guess it's because I was just really tired of their food. Almost positive I won't be going back ever again. I'd just rather grab a sandwich from La Val's if I'm out of cash in the future. I usually get the shredded chicken burrito or grilled pollo burrito, both of which are okay. The portions are smaller than Chipotle, but you do get bottomless chips and salsa if you dine in. If you get it to go, you can ask for a bag for chips/salsa. They're fast with making the food, so wait times are usually minimal. read more

I really like this La Burrita because it's spacious and people are more attentive and friendly compared to the Durant Ave one. I ordered a big order here before for 8-10 people. They were really nice and helpful, and gave me a big bag so I can carry all the burritos and chips and sauces back to campus. I also came here for their vegetarian burritos. Really good, indeed. Super Nachos make the best late night snack! The combination of ground beef, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and nacho chips is perfect to fulfill late night hunger pains and to share with a friend. Came here after a busy day of playing Pokemon Go. The place is next to La Val's. The outside seating is nice. Layout is nice with a place to get chips and there's a self serving salsa station. Must self-buss after eating. The primary complaint is the food. Burritos taste okay while the chips and salsa are mediocre. The water here tasted a bit funny. I've been here many many times. I can always count on a quick, yummy, but fairly greasy meal here. My favorites are the 2 enchilada plate and the La Burrita Special burrito. Everything has a fatty, hearty, mushy texture. I generally dislike food that's too dry, and you definitely won't find that problem here. The chips are also quite oily, but they are usually kept decently fresh. The chip tub gets refilled every once in awhile, and if you happen to get a fresh warm batch they are quite enjoyable. The salsa is pretty good, with a nice medium chunky texture and balanced taste. They always show sports on their one TV, so this is a nice lowkey place to chill and watch sports. read more

Nacho disaster!!! I had the worst experience when I placed my order from this restaurant. Cold, Old and Stale are three words to describe my experience!!!!!!!!!! The chips were fused to the container. UGH! The sour cream was chunky, the guacamole was a dark almost black color. The chips were broken burnt and very limp. I am extremely disgusted and I will never order from this restaurant ever again. My son warned me against ordering from a unfamiliar restaurant. read more

Regular Nachos with Sour Cream - - Yummy!! I like to stick to what I know and in this case, nachos. I order the same thing every time I go (once a week) and one order is enough for two people. The price is reasonable and as I mentioned earlier, the nachos are delish! I decided to be adventurous one day and tried the bean and cheese burrito but found it to be quite soggy, added with the free chips and salsa, you can make your own version of the nachos (heh) Despite the website saying it is open till 10, it is in fact, only open till 9 pm. I always prefer sitting outside as the inside never seems to be clean. There are always plates on the tables and empty baskets of chips lying around. Overall rating - 3/5 read more

2.5 stars Was in Berkeley at my Alma Mater (PSR) for a meeting and unexpectedly ran into an out-of-town friend/colleague. So we headed over to Euclid for a cup of coffee & a chat, but she was pulled by California burritos (she's now living inthe mid-west) so we ended up at La Burrita. Had Carne Asada Wet Burrito- one of my favs. Flavor was good, though it had pinto beans. I prefer black beans. I didn't think to ask if they had them when I ordered. Was distracted by my need to find the bathroom.... more on the bathroom later... Their jalopena salsa was GREAT! Flavor of the meat was good. Sauce on top just ok, slightly bland. Later that same day... I had some salt issues. Clearly this lunch was over salted, though it might have just been the chips. They were salty and I ate them anyway. Now on to the bathroom- It is a mixed gender bathroom with a stall and a urinal. There is a lock on the door so you don't have to be confronted with someone using the urinal when you exit the stall- Thank God! BUT it smells like a neglected rat cage- like old piss. So appetizing. :(- Yuck. My dining partner wanted to wash her hands, but I told her that she would not feel cleaner after using that bathroom to wash her wants. Every surface was sticky. read more

Ok. Let's clarify one thing over those that have been reviewing this place poorly. It is a college town burrito joint. It is not supposed to be gourmet. It's not supposed to have environs that please or amazing wait service or even really a clean bathroom. What it should have? Greasy Mexican food, cheap beer, and a collegial atmosphere. And ya know what? It's got all three in terrific quantities. Toss in unlimited free chips and a large salsa bar? Freaking heaven people. And it reminds me of my good ole days at UGA in Athens. Was here immediately following the US/Ghana World Cup match - they had set up TVs in the courtyard so people could watch and it was packed. We got our food quickly, ate under a beautiful tree with the sun beating down on our heads, and enjoyed every last minute of it. Will be back next time I'm in Berkeley. read more

This place is SUPER college kids oriented with their messy tables and so many different types of beer. The chips are free too! How awesome is that? The burritos are tasty but not the best. LaBurrita was once my stomping grounds during my college days at Cal. After a night of excessive partying, a Carne Asada burrito from LaBurrita hits the spot every time. It's affordable, and high in calories if you're hungry! If you go to the North side location, they have unlimited chips & salsa. The chips are kept warm and are addicting. Can't stop at just one! There was a time in my graduate studies when I spent late nights on campus, and during that time I frequented La Burrita because I could get something relatively healthy to eat for a reasonable price at a somewhat late hour. Thankfully, those days are over. Studying in a windowless building for hours every night is arduous enough, but eating La Burrita and ending up with a tummy ache while trying to study is sheer torture. I don't like feeling ill after eating what looks like an innocent burrito, but that's exactly what happened on more than a few occasions to myself and my friends. The shady-factor of food prep doesn't seem to be an issue unique to La Burrita, though, because I find myself feeling a bit queasy from a number of "restaurants" in the North Gate area. However, it might be safe to say that usually when I come here, I'm usually depressed or drunk, so something about them chemicals in my mind + cortisol + fatty Mexican food = deliciousness and the release of too many happy serotonin in my digestive system. Best things ever: Super Nachos (+ chicken): ~$5.95 - Don't notice how they make it. Just notice the deliciousness of a 1-pound bag of crunchy nachos, melted cheese, beans (and i HATE beans normally!), shredded chicken, guacamole, mmm. Steak Super Burrito: ~$4-5 - Comes with everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. In melted, 1000 calorie wonder. Omg. Thus, La Bo deserves my undying affection. The destination, ultimate, for my rainy day drives & my post-depressed night morning junk food, & make-up conversations. It's mediocre, but since it's close to my office and no Mexican food in Berkeley is that great, I don't object too strenuously when my friends drag me here. I stick to veggie tacos, as the meat's not worth the calories. Chips are decent but there's only one salsa with any taste (jalapeno) and even that one tastes stale sometimes. Better places near campus include Mario's La Fiesta and La Cascada (most would also include Cancun); even Baja Fresh and Chipotle at least have fresher ingredients. Been coming here for last year and a half after work softball. Note that it is not open as late as La Val's is (closes around 9pm). As everyone has mentioned, they do share the patio with La Val's so you can always eat outside (seems most people do, although they do have one TV inside they usually show sports on). Just be wary of the trees above your head; they seem to drop their leaves on you fairly regularly, so be ready to duck and cover your food and drink. I usually get the special burrito with carne asada for around $7. Not the best I've had but certainly not the worst. The meat is always flavorful, at least. Service is also really fast; they give you a receipt with a number and display it outside like the deli counter so you know when you're order is up. Free warm chips with a $3 purchase always hits the spot. Water cups are on the side of the register, and make sure to get a punch card: after 10 burritos, the 11th is free. Bathrooms are not of the highest grade, but at least there's regularly stocked paper towels and hand soap (soap in the metal dispenser at the sink is always empty, use the push button dispenser near it for your washing needs). If you're in the area and want some fast Mexican food, this is the place. Parking is a little tough but if you get there after 7pm like I usually do, ones on the street are everywhere. Edit: Cashier is always surly, something I failed to mention in my review. I don't think I've ever seen him smile in all the time I've been going here. Others have remarked about this too, so I don't think this is an isolated incident. I'm not asking for him to be ear to ear grinning, but he legitimately looks angry when we get there. Perhaps he dreads the softball crowd coming, since it'll mean more work. But it obviously means more revenue, so what's the beef? But every time I order, he seems to want to be anywhere but there, and has seemingly muttered things under his breath when I redeemed my free burrito coupon. Makes no sense; I've given that place a lot of money over two years, you'd think they'd be happy to see me when I roll in. One free burrito will lead to me ordering more burritos, and if there's another free one in there, so be it. Simple. Even though we're coming after softball, we're not rowdy or rude, so I really don't get it. He perked up when a female ordered, so perhaps he just is not keen with the male variety. The female cashier in the afternoons is way less of a raincloud. I dread giving this place business just due to the shade that's thrown weekly, but it still is the best deal in comparison to La Val's. Further edit: The cashier outright refused to serve my teammate last Wednesday. As in, as soon as my teammate walked into the restaurant, the cashier turned around and walked away. Didn't LOVE it but it was really good, cheap, fast, and filling. I had the carne asada quesadilla, which is next to impossible to mess up. It had plenty of cheese and the carne asada was tender. Really no complaints about La Burrita. It's within walking distance of anywhere at UC Berkeley, halfway up the first block of Euclid. It's particularly well located because of the variety in the immediate vicinity. It would be a great place to get together with friends since everyone can pretty much have what they want since the Pho Bar and La Val's pizza are right there, D'yar down the street and Bongo Burger across the street. Edit** I've since tried all sorts off their menu and, really, it just keeps getting better. Their free chips and salsa are a great way to start and you can't go wrong. The wet burritos are delicious, the nachos don't miss a step, the enchiladas are quite tasty, and their beer prices are reasonable enough for me to buy alcohol out, which is unusual for me. I might as well come out and say it--I am "psychologically dependent" on La Burrita's Very Veggie burrito. I could eat it every day for weeks without getting bored, and even then I'd only need to take a little bit of a break. It can be difficult to find Mexican restaurants that serve high quality, tasty vegetarian food, and I've always felt that options for truly HEALTHY burritos have been lacking at places I've frequented in the past. At La Burrita, I've found my perfect burrito: Whole wheat tortilla, black beans, lettuce, salsa, and avocado. All of this for only $3.90! It's that simple, yet the flavors are incredibly complex, and afterward, I don't feel like I've eaten a brick of saturated fat. Unless, of course, I got it wet (smothered in red enchilada sauce and melted cheese). This brings me to another point: I have been looking for a vegetarian wet burrito option for YEARS, and not until La Burrita's recent menu change this year did I find what I had been longing for. read more

The first time I ever ate here, when my SoCal soul was suffering from Mexican food deprivation, I ordered a vegetarian burrito and vowed to never come back, because they had committed vegetarian blasphemy: undercooked beans. The second time (and hopefully last time) I ate here was a few days ago when I decided after yoga of all things that I didn't care about being vegetarian anymore because I really. wanted. meat. This was not really a spontaneous decision, but regardless, I was forced to eat at La Burrita when all my preferred meat options on Euclid were closed. I came here to grab a quick dinner after a day of rafting. Some people say that the Southside location is better than this one and it does have more menu options, but the good thing about this one was supposed to be that there are unlimited chips (since it's self-serve). However, I was disappointed upon opening the chip oven that it was completely empty except for a few bits and pieces. When I asked the worker if there were more, he said they were apparently out of chips... What I ordered: - Large very veggie burrito ($5.49) I saw that they had a new garlic onion tortilla and ordered my burrito on that, but actually I couldn't really taste the difference from a normal plain tortilla. The grilled veggies were good, but pouring salsa in the burrito definitely helped enhance the taste. Pretty filling meal, but this is just your standard Mexican fare without bells and whistles. This restaurant was pretty good. Clearly, there are a lot of Berkeley students who come here and it is always crowded. The meal is very authentic and I enjoyed my fish burrito. It was very filling for me and my children. I also tried the shrimp burrito and it was very good. They give free chips which were very crispy and hot. However, the bathroom was dirty with graffiti and the tables were sticky. Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant and would come back! read more

If I don't go to Cancun, I go here and the burritos are just as good if not better! One of the best burrito places I have ever eaten at! Ok I know this place doesn't serve the most authentic Mexican food but, I don't care, their food is just so damn good. I always just get the regular burrito because the large is too big for me. There are two La Burritas, one on each side of campus, and both have the same quality of food. I prefer this La Burrita because it is less crowded, you can have an unlimited amount of homemade chips, and they have a TV. This place gets 5 stars all the way. read more

La Burrita, at least the one on north side, is not one of my favorite places. Yes, they do have the "one free basket of chips per order" policy (however, I've totally gotten away with two - cough - or three), so I inclined to give them some stars for that.... however.... as a Southern California transplant, I know what good Mexican food should taste like. Basic burrito is fresh and tasty. In addition to salsas they have peppers and pickled onions with carrots which are yummy. Fountain drinks are only $1.50 and you can get unsweetened ice tea. Interior is kinda echoey with tv in middle of place. Outdoor seating shared with La Vals. read more

Nothing special. Went to La Burrita for the third time and have decided the food is very basic. Nothing really stands out. Had the tacos and enchilada plate which came with beans and rice. The latter two were good, but the taco and enchilada were largely tasteless. Had to put a lot of salsa on top and even then was nothing special. The main problem is their meat has no flavor, which means anything they put it in, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. will be lacking. read more

I usually ordered their carne asada burrito or quesadilla. Both were average, nothing too special, other than they were quite oily. The order comes with a side of free chips. If you're interested in eating good food, I recommend Juan's Place in West Berkeley, or perhaps just about any other Mexican Food restaurant. My little sister could make better quesadillas than the ones made here when she was in 8th grade. I must agree with other posters, that the location and setting of this La Burrita makes it far superior to the Southside counterpart. It has a nice courtyard which makes for a peaceful place to eat outside. Just expect bland, run of the mill, Mexican food. They do have good Horchata. read more
