Forget Florence and Pisa and Montalcino and head south to where the coffee and bread are ten times better. This second story gem is down at sea level in the port of Pozzuoli, and I have eaten there about twenty times. Be advised: the menu is very, very limited. You can get a starter of octopus or a plate of olives. There are a couple of seafood pastas and risotto pescatore. Then you can get some fish or some fried calamari or shrimp. That's about it. But the guys who run the place are great, and I love to watch them interact with foreigners --- by which I mean anyone who lives more than ten miles away!! I first ate here in about 1986, and the young guy that was our waiter then was our waiter in April of this year, and one of the old cooks was still down in the kitchen. Don Antonio and his wife are long gone, but his son is still there every night it is open. I highly recommend this place for an adventurous eater, but don't go there and waste a table if you are wanting some sort of special fancy meal. This is where small groups of old friends go for good food in a simple setting.

I know I've written a great review for pizza for a couple other places in Naples, but the pizza…read morehere takes it. In reading the other reviews, there can be long waits here, and I can certainly understand why. Even in a city with so many pizza spots, this one stands out in the very best way. I also wanted to address a misconception. Multiple reviews here mention how the pizza is doughy in the center. Proper Napoli pizza is supposed to be this consistency. It's supposed to be runny and doughy in the middle, so they 100% do that right at this place. Also, it will not be sliced; you are to cut it yourself. We lucked out not having to wait. We went to Gino e Toto Sorbillo (which is supposed to be the original restaurant) and sat in the horseshoe. Our server Francesco was fantastic, giving great recommendations and being friendly and welcoming. We shared the margheritta bufala DOP and diavolla. Both were excellent! I preferred the margheritta whereas my husband preferred the diavolla. I am convinced that you really can't go wrong here though. The pizza dough itself had great elasticity while also having a thin yet light, fluffy, and airy crust. Apparently, they ferment the dough for 48 hours. The difference is striking. The pomodoro Italiano sauce is also so simple yet tasty and well seasoned. For me, the saltiness of the salame in the diavolla overpowered the delicious other flavors of the pizza, but it was still tasty. My husband loved that one though. In my opinion, this place has achieved pizza perfection, and I literally cannot imagine how anyone could make a better or more perfect pizza. Overall, this is a great casual spot, and I would not hesitate to come here during my next visit to Naples...even one hour would be worth the wait.

The restaurant has rough cut stone walls and a buzz of conversation. I tried the house red wine and the Salvatore pizza with olives. The house red was decent. My pizza was served piping hot and had a nice flavor when you could get all of the ingredients in one bite. Overall, I would recommend Gino e Toto Sorbillo for pizza in Napoli.

Tandem is amazing. We went to the original location for lunch without a reservation, and they told…read moreus that they were booked up, but that they had a second location a few blocks away that could likely accommodate us. They picked up the phone, made a call, and a table was secured. We walked over, and were immediately seated. The waiter brought a box of multiple shapes of pasta, explained what each was called, and which sauces were appropriate with each. We ended up ordering caprese salad (the freshest buffalo mozzarella we ever had), one pasta, and the bread loaf filled with meatballs and ragu. We were in heaven, and the portions were tremendous. We left stuffed, satisfied, and paid about 45 euros for the meal. Highly recommended!

The staff was extremely friendly, taking the time to share their favorite options and recommendations with us. There are a couple of seats inside, but it's mostly set up for takeout orders. We ordered the meatball cuzzetiello. It's a great concept--after all, who doesn't love a meatball sandwich? However, the bread was a bit too hard, though that might have been because we visited later in the day. The meat was okay, but it definitely wasn't hot enough, and while the ragù was a bit sweeter than our personal preference, it was still decent. Overall, it could use a bit more seasoning for taste, as it felt somewhat bland. Again, it's a really cool concept, but I think they need to tweak the flavors a bit.
