While I love pasta and pizza, sometimes even I need to eat something else. When I was last in Naples and feeling that a change of diet was in order, I had dinner at Cantina La Barbera. The ambiance is pleasant, the venue is conveniently located, and the food is exceptional! Thinking back over my meal, the dish that stands out most in my memory isn't an entrée, it's a side dish. The chips they make here are excellent; wonderfully well fried, very crispy, and totally delicious :-) There's also an extensive and affordable wine list; you're bound to find something wonderful if you take the time to look. read more

Excellent food and stellar service. We had the Sunday Menu Degustazione and it was absolutely delicious. 6 courses (small portion sizes so you can actually finish them) for a very reasonable price. Our daughter had pasta al olio e formaggio which was amazingly tasty for something so simple with so few ingredients. Food came at a good pace so we were in and out in 2 hours. Elegant restaurant - much larger and nicer inside than construction outside. Large wine list, poretti beer on tap. Diverse menu. Bistecca for 18E was large and cooked as ordered but a little fatty. Fancier steaks looked great but sold by weight 4-5E per etto. Good location for quiet date night for ambience. read more

Second time in Italy and one of the best places I've had the pleasure of eating at. It's mostly a steakhouse with a variety of beef, pork, and some chicken options. There are also several options for seafood, pasta, pizza, and vegetables. My wife and I ate here our first night in Naples and although the steak that was brought out for the patrons at a different table was an enormous T-bone still sizzling, we opted for the "All you can eat" BBQ option to see the Italian take on it. It was 24€ per person (min 2) which seemed a little pricey but this trip was for our anniversary so why not.. First we ordered the fried ravioli with sea salt and pepper for an appetizer. I don't recall the type of cheese it was stuffed with but it was good. Now for the BBQ: First came a plate of chicken wings and a plate of cuts of cold meat. The sauce on the wings was sweet and thin, unlike typical American BBQ sauce. Also the meat seemed to fall right off the bone. It was different, but very good. Then came BBQ pork with salad that had a slightly thicker sauce and I believe was pan seared. Meat was tender and the sauce had just a little kick to it. Next came a very large bone-in pork shoulder (I think) with salad and potatoes. This piece was defiantly grilled and had a smokey BBQ flavor that was delicious. I don't know if there was more meat to come but we still had so much food uneaten that fortunately they did not bring us more. After clearing the table we opted for a cheesecake that was soaked in some type of sweet liquor and cream with bits of pistachio. By this point it hurts to take another bite.. But it was that good! We will defiantly be returning here again before going to the next city on our list. Finally, this is more of a locals area instead of tourist so they only had one employee who spoke English. I can't say enough good things about this particular take on Italian cuisine. Definitely Italian flavors, just less of an emphasis on seafood, tomato sauce, or spaghetti. Highly recommend it to anybody who is looking to change up their dining. Excellent grilled meats, I recommend the hamburger CLB, the meat skewer, or any of the steaks. I also highly recommend it to anybody who doesn't speak English but happens to be in Naples, be sure to ask for Maurizio, Rosa, or Pietro the sommelier. Enjoy! read more
