Wow. I'm not sure if it was that we were starving or that the food was simply that good, but La Boqueria Centro did not disappoint. Homemade chips and salsa to start with some icy cold beers, we were off to a good start.
Mezcal came next, with nice slices of fresh lemon and chili salt to cleanse the palate before consuming some nice Mezcal. This seems to be tradition at each and every restaurant we visited. Not a bad gig.
This progressed to multiple orders of seafood tacos, octopus tostadas, a tuna tower and shrimp skewers... all delicious. We also ordered Aguachiles Boqueria: shrimp with a green chili sauce and charcoal, served with chicharron. Amazing. Our one seafood non-lover, she ordered the hamburger accompanied by fries, for which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
Being so close to the historical sites downtown, restaurants may be touristic and the food not as good as other offerings nearby... however, this establishment serves all very well. I was impressed by the wonderful flavors of the seafood, fresh and so tasty.
Service was exceptional. It seems we weren't done, as my brother-in-law insisted that we all indulge in Carajillo Cocktail. This is a coffee after-dinner drink made with Liquor 43. The bartenders made this cocktail into an art, shaking and mixing the espresso with the liquor 43 and pouring it over ice. Delicious... get this.
We then walked around a bit, enjoying the history of the church and surrounding historical sites. After a few cocktails, I was more apt to buy the artist's offerings that are plentiful along the streets of the center.
Stop here. Enjoy some cocktails, food, and the company of good friends. It was nothing short of memorable. read more
