It was our first night in Tulum and we wanted mouth watering authentic Mexican food that was not overpriced for tourists. Few locals recommended La Barracuda in the city center away from the the main strip on the water. We took a taxi which costed $10 (American) each way. This place did not disappoint. It was as authentic as it got. There was a lady heating up tortillas and mariachis playing in the background. We started off with chips N Salsa (Amazing), fish and mixed seafood ceviche (to die for). We both ordered a whole fish (1 grilled/ 1 fried - both good but a little dry). Portions were large. Food was incredibly fresh and service was great. Highly highly recommend this place

La Barracuda was just 3 minutes from our stay so we came in for some affordable food and drinks. Their margaritas and mojitos are about 6 bucks (USD) and are pretty tasty. They let us get whatever tequila we wanted in the margarita...I mean anything! Prices didn't change. They start by giving the table fresh tortilla chips and dipping sauces (garlic cream, fresh salsa, habanero pepper, and hot chile mixed with olive oil). I mean I could have gotten full off of the chips alone! We ordered the fish empanadas and shrimp quesadilla which we split between two people. We were both very full after. The empanadas are HUGE and they come with 3. They were filling but we enjoyed the shrimp quesadilla a lot more.

The hot sauces!! Try the Tamarindo flavor. All of them are amazing but SPICY!

La Barracuda is an amazing restaurant in Tulum town. We came here on our first day for dinner and ordered the following: Garlic Fish with rice and vegetables Fish burrito with diabla (hot) sauce Both of these were delicious and hot off the grill/stove. The fish burrito though..was on another level! Really enjoyed it & the portion size was large too. The service was friendly! We started with chips, salsa and a variety of hot sauces. These were so delicious! They also sell them in store (for 50 pesos each - easily to take back home!) While we were there, a mariachi band came by and starting singing, it was pretty nice! P.S. There's a sweet little cat that comes around for pets and snacks!!

I came here twice in the few days I was in Tulum. The pescado frito is to die for - almost addicting. The service there is amazing and everything is so clean love it here - most definitely will be recommending it to anyone that visits Tulum!

Ceviche

MY BOYFRIEND AND I GOT SEVERE FOOD POISONING HERE. My boyfriend and I came here Saturday afternoon 3/19. Ordered Ceviche, guacamole, a fried shrimp plate & an octopus plate. The ceviche seemed a little suspect because it was lacking in lime and seemed a bit slimey but we love ceviche so we ate it anyway not thinking much of it. That night I became so sick I had to sleep on our hotel bathroom floor, went to the hospital the next morning because i was still so sick and dehydrated, they concluded it was seafood induced and I started medicine. Late 3/20 my boyfriend was also hit with the food poisoning but thankfully for him he did not get the vomiting part I had. Overall, don't eat anything that raises any red flags especially when traveling. This ruined the last few days of a vacation that was already not going too hot.

Cannot begin to rave about this gem. Locals plenty and so are the portions...abundant fresh and very much affordable. Placed a few orders to go and my order was ready in no time. Enjoy a cerveza while listening to love music y buen provecho! My favorite on the menu is the ceviche barracuda of course

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was a full house. We got seated right away upon arrival. I ordered the calamari and fish tacos. The fish tacos were pretty good. Well seasoned. The calamari was very good. Grilled just right with wonderful seasoning. Wasn't too chewy. Their flan was very good too. Wasn't to sweet. Overall experience, friendly staffs, very big restaurant. Affordable prices and a good seafood joint.

Place is awesome! There is a similar place down the street called El Camillo, Jr. ...don't be fooled; they are not the same. To make it easy, here are lists of the pros and cons. Pros: -Hot garlic shrimp is soooo good. MUST TRY!! -great customer service with very attentive waiters -very clean -best mojitos we have ever had by far -the margaritas are made with fresh lime juice; no mix here -prices are great -fresh seafood -if you get a shrimp dish, it will be overloaded with shrimp. (Perhaps, there are no food costs associated with shrimp in tulum. Lol.) Cons: -honestly, this place has no cons. I tried, but my husband told me to not give a con if there really wasn't one.

So glad we checked this establishment out! We went about an hour before closing for a late night dinner and service was great, food was wow! And the restaurant itself was chill with free WiFi and American College Football. Fairly priced and good was just so darn tasty! We ordered their fish and shrimp taco (battered) and a half order of their shrimp ceviche. SO. GOOD! the half size was more than enough for two people so we ended up being pretty full on top of an order of three tacos. TIP: use your second corn tortilla and make shrimp ceviche tacos, ha!

We went on a Saturday night and it was pleasantly relaxed, which made the whole experience even better. Alex took amazing care of us. He was attentive, kind, and always one step ahead, bringing things before we even had to ask. He also shared great insight about the restaurant and its background, which we really appreciated. The food was as delicious as ever. We always order the grilled octopus and it's a must every time, perfectly tender and full of flavor. This time we also tried a small shrimp ceviche that had a great balance of acidity and spice. We finished with the grilled fish, which was soft, fresh, and really tasty. I skipped the margarita this time, but they are also one of my favorite things to get here. We will definitely keep coming back.

I thought the fish was a little over-fried but my husband liked it that way. The grilled octopus was not overcooked, but in fact very tender, and cooked with this red sauce that made it very juicy. These were their two recommended dishes and I'm glad we got to try them. Just be careful with the water here (like any place in Mexico). I think I got sick because my drink had ice in it, which melted and contaminated my drink. Small mixed ceviche 10/10 - We were pleasantly surprised by the serving size ("THIS is a small?") The best food I've had in Tulum two years in a row! Simply amazing!…read more Wow - I thought maybe I just remembered last year through rose-colored glasses - no, this place is magnificent. First, the vibe is basically perfect. Feels exotic, is clean, the staff is fun, and the live music is the finishing touch. Second, without a doubt the best food we had in Tulum during our week there this year, and my week there last year. House Salad - I never knew I needed goat cheese ice cream on a salad but I'm telling you it was AMAZING! My girlfriend had the Octopus in marinade. She gets the Octopus everywhere we go. It was very tasty and not overcooked like is often the case. I had the Catch of the Day, Sea Bass. I have the fish of the day everywhere I go (live in St Petersburg, Florida, so I'm a seafood junky). It was, again, like last year the best fish dinner entree I had in Tulum. That's between about 12 different places I've eaten at in Tulum spanning the poshest hotel zone restaurants to the most reviewed and highly rated places in Centro in town. It was mouth-wateringly good and flawlessly prepared. I highly suggest trying the Mexican Tea cocktail - a refreshing, but not overly sweet, well-balanced drink that I loved and my girlfriend switched to despite it not being anything like what she would normally order. Last - I worked in restaurants starting at 15 through my late 20's including the most upscale place in the entire city. I got good enough to find gigs helping train staff during new openings. The service we received was remarkable, yet causal and fun. Commendable and appreciated.

Make sure to make a reservation in advance, especially for Thursday through the weekend. We visited at 8:30 and we felt like it was the perfect time because a lot of the performances began around nine. The service is top-notch. From putting the napkin in your lap to arranging a miniature coat rack to hang your jacket, they pay attention to detail. Not to mention, though the atmosphere takes priority here, the food was also very good. We ordered a steak and the shrimp risotto. The shrimp were colossal. I have never seen shrimp so big. Most of their specialty cocktails are quite acidic and that night I was craving whiskey so I ordered an old-fashioned and it was also very good. I would say this spot in particular is well known for big groups and bachelorette dinners. It is quite loud, so keep that in mind. It's also in line with other nice restaurants in Tulum regarding price, but we felt it was worth it. Lastly, make a note that they charge for water so you're not surprised when you get the bill.

It never felt stiff or overly formal, just lively and fun the entire evening. The food was excellent across the board, but the standout was the tomahawk steak presentation. When it arrived, sparklers, drums, and all eyes on the table, it honestly felt like some kind of ceremonial animal sacrifice in the most entertaining way possible. Over the top? Absolutely. Memorable? Even more so. Great atmosphere, great service, and legitimately great food to back it up. We laughed, ate way too much, and left buzzing from the whole experience. A true 5-star night in Tulum.
