We are very fortunate to have multiple choices of very good Mexican restaurants in Oshkosh. La Baja is my favorite because the menu and food offerings ate totally unique. I would say this is one of the most authentic places I have ever eaten at anywhere. Nothing about the food preparation and flavors is similar to typical places. My favorite menu items would have to be the Birria ramen or the quesabirria! The tacos are always outstanding. The side dishes of their rice, seasoned potatoes, and macaroni salad are not seen anywhere else. Specialty drinks are well done although I prefer a cold pint of Modelo. The desserts are rotating on what is available but they are all made fresh there and authentic and amazing. The salsa and hot sauces are made daily and totally unique. You want hot- they have one that will hurt you lol. Guacamole is fresh and best ordered with the pico de gallo mixed in.. chips are much better than the typical offerings. This is truly a family restaurant, the owner and his wife and his boys are there to serve you and they do their best everyday. You may wait longer here, but I know my food is cooked fresh to order and with love every time we go there and that is worth it to me. There aren't steam trays of heated foods in back or an assembly line. Service is great but please be patient. I have seen it busy and it can be overwhelming as they are very tightly staffed- just raise your hand like you are in school and they will get you, but please be kind. I have seen people that truly do not understand how hard any foodservice business is, and I know this family is doing their best. Ambiance is perfect for what I realistically expect, this isn't fine dining or a new fancy building. But it is clean and in good working order. If you want authentic food that is made to order and consistently excellent, this is your place. read more

La Baja - Quesadilla Combo with 2 Sides, taco combo - Mexican Near Me - Oshkosh, Wisconsin

I've been bugging my husband to take me here for a couple of weeks and last night we finally went. First the good. The food was really tasty. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. The presentation was also nice. My husband had some kind of pork taco that was also very good. I know this is an authentic Mexican place but the salsa was very very watery. I like a thicker consistency personally. The margarita I got was really good as well. As far as the place itself, the seating is definitely from the last restaurant that was there, it's very worn. The music was really loud, too loud, and the lighting was extremely bright for dinner time. Not nearly the aesthetic of some of the Mexican places in Appleton. The place was dead. Two people at the bar and another table of people eating, not what you'd expect at dinner time. This is surprising as the food was really good. Not sure we will be back any time soon due to the atmosphere not being very relaxing. Maybe they will upgrade the place over time. And lastly we've never been to a restaurant with 'combo" meals where you can't pick more than one option for your tacos. We could only get on choice for all 3. :( read more

I've been to Mexico many times in many parts of Mexico including Tijuana. La Baja is authentic. They have a Golden margarita made from scratch with fresh squeezed orange and lime; it's absolutely amazing It's family owned and operated. Great friendly service. The ambience reminds me of being in Mexico. BTW, I never stay at an all inclusive place in Mexico so I always eat in local restaurants. This is the best place without the 1000 mile flight for Mexican food. read more

Alright, fellow Oshkosh foodies, let's talk La Baja! I recently ventured into this Mexican restaurant on a quest for some authentic flavors, and I'm here to give you the lowdown. Atmosphere: La Baja isn't trying to be fancy, and that's precisely what I loved about it. It's got that classic, comfortable, family-run feel. Think vibrant colors, simple decor, and a bustling, energetic vibe. The place was clean and well-maintained, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. It's the kind of spot where you can relax and enjoy a good meal without feeling pressured. Service: The service was genuinely excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were quick to take our orders, kept our drinks filled, and checked in on us regularly without being intrusive. I appreciated their willingness to answer our questions and offer recommendations. Even when the restaurant got busy, the service remained prompt and efficient. Food: Now, for the main event! I ordered the Carne Asada plate, and my companion went for the Shrimp Fajitas. * Carne Asada: The steak was perfectly grilled, tender, and seasoned beautifully. It came with all the classic fixings: rice, beans, guacamole, and tortillas. The rice and beans were flavorful, and the guacamole tasted fresh and homemade. The tortillas were warm and soft, exactly how they should be. * Shrimp Fajitas: My friend raved about the fajitas. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the vegetables were crisp and flavorful. The sizzling platter was a feast for the eyes and the nose. The portion size was generous, and they had plenty to take home. We also started with the Guacamole and Chips, which were a solid choice. The guacamole was chunky and fresh, and the chips were crispy and salty. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes. From tacos and burritos to enchiladas and seafood, there's something for everyone. I'm already planning my next visit to try their Mole Poblano! Drinks: They have a decent selection of Mexican beers and soft drinks. I opted for a Jarritos (pineapple flavor!), which was refreshing and paired perfectly with my meal. Price: The prices at La Baja are very reasonable. You get a lot of food for your money, and the quality is excellent. It's definitely a great value. Overall: La Baja is a hidden gem in Oshkosh. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Mexican food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this is the place to be. The service is top-notch, the food is fantastic, and the prices are hard to beat. I'm giving La Baja a solid 5 stars. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning! read more

Thought we'd try this place as it has good reviews. The taste of the food was good. The service and friendly atmosphere was excellent. The chips and salsa were delivered immediately. That's my only positive things to say. My wife and I each had a margarita, I ordered shrimp tacos, she had chicken quesadillas. It took 30 minutes to get our food. The salsa dish had maybe a quarter cup in it, we ran out and waited a while to get a refill. The restaurant was 50% full. The men's bathroom had graffiti carved in the door. The bill was $55 after a 15% tip. I thought that was high for what we got. I will never return, and would not recommend this place to anyone. We will stick to Cozumel for our Mexican food. read more

The food was super flavorful, fresh and delicious. Ordered a fish taco, it was huge, best I've ever had! If you want real deal and not the boring cookie cutter same old Mexican food, this is the spot. Can't wait to come back and try more stuff off the menu. read more
