This was easily my favorite meal in Quebec City. The food was incredible, the service was fun and friendly, and the decor and atmosphere felt completely different from anywhere else I've visited in Canada. Even in the basement the bathroom was so funny I had to attach the picture to my review. I left with a large bag/containers of leftovers and was so happy I got to try several of the most popular items on the menu. It was also my first time trying maple taffy, known in French as "tire sur la neige," and it was absolute heaven. There wasn't a single dish I didn't enjoy. Everything was unbelievably delicious. To sum this all up it was a gustatory pleasure for my palate and would love to come back with a large group and order family style at try at least 20 more items. :-)

I saw this place pop us on a few blogs as a place to try traditional food and also one of the locals recommended it to us. I made a reservation as it gets busy and when we arrived we still had to line up and wait which I thought was strange. Our server was pleasant and gave us some help on choosing items off of the menu. The inside decor is adorable just like a "sugar shack" with all of the snow gear and animal skin etc. Also the bathroom is a nice unique touch! The menu was a little hard to read and I had trouble deciding what to get. The server suggested the Quebec pork which came out tender with potatoes which tasted really good but the plate was barely hot. My mum got the Shepard pie she said the meat was great but too much corn for her taste. My dad got the meat pie he said it was full of meat and tasted great, he subbed the salad for mashed potatoes which was a good choice also. I had a mojito to drink which was delicious. I asked to try the maple taffy which said it was served in snow, it wasn't being it was summer. My dad got the fudge it came in a cute little box. The food came out so fast after we ordered and our server seemed like he was kind of going through motions so it wasn't my favorite experience in a restaurant in Quebec, however is recommend trying it once if in the city.

Step into Canadiana! This spot is perfect for a big group brunch, Quebec style! The minute you walk in your see Bonhomme and a bunch of plaid. I booked resos for six of us here on vacation as I heard this spot fills up quickly. We sat at one of their picnic benches in the center room. The decor is awesome, it's filled with ski hill imagery, toboggans, sugar shack stuff, and animals you'd catch in a Canadian forest. I ordered the breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast and hashbrowns with a side yogurt. The breakfasts are HUGE so you can easily share with someone else if you're not in the mood to eat a full one yourself. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the toast buttered and fluffy, the hashbrowns were cooked well and seasoned well which is such a bonus as I find sometimes hashbrowns are lacking a lot. The side yogurt was surprisingly the highlight for me! It came with maple syrup, fruit and granola. I absolutely devoured it! The service was great here too, and they came by with drip coffee top up! They know their audience. I would 100% go back here!

We came for breakfast/brunch time while visiting the city. The food was a bit expensive, but very tasty. It was a unique dining experience. The quirky decorations offered a very Canadian experience. The server was quickly accommodating in both English and French. Both meals were delicious. We opted for the $12 mimosa (with $2 refills) available at brunch. Unfortunately, it was very hard to track down our server after our initial order and we we're not able to get more than one refill despite arrive 90 minutes before the offer was up. Besides that, I would recommend adding this to your Quebec City itinerary.

Sugar Shack Plate - The Big One La Tourtiere Facing Buche

La Buche in the slow season is still very popular, we were lucky to be there just as they opened for brunch and by the time we were finished there was a line already. La Buche is a Quebec City must visit. They have a traditional cottage feel interior setting and a cozy table/bench style tables. The decorative items are very French Canadian in the style of a cabin and their menu items are very local. Beware (for good reasons) that all their items are basically sweetened with maple syrup! It was delicious. We had the: - Maple Syrup Cola; it was VERY fizzy so drink it fast and it is fairly sweet - LA TOURTIÈRE FAÇON BÛCHE; a bit on the dryer side, this is a classic meat pie with potatoes, it is a hearty meal - ASSIETTE D'LA CABANE - la totale (Sugar Shack Plate - The Big One); highly recommended if you don't know what to order and want a taste of everything... they crepes was delicious, the sausage, eggs, etc. all drowned in maple syrup, the fruit ketchup was also a nice surprise and worth a try, it was due to this experience that I am a bit obsessed with fruit ketchup now (a ketchup, tomato + vinegar base with fruits like apples, pears, peaches, etc. plus more spices and pearl onions) At La Buche, you can purchase some souvenirs and some of their signature items like their fruit ketchup and maple syrup. It is also offered at their attached store (which was closed for the season) as well as at some of the local stores in the city. It is a great deal/price compared to other local prices. However, if you do want to bulk buy maple syrup, go to a local market/grocer for a better deal. Service at La Buche was amazing, the server took care of everything and the food came out really quickly. As with most things in Quebec, there is absolutely no rush with your dining experience and everything was delicious.

The duck wings were slathered to an excessive degree with an overly sweet sauce. The foie gras was extremely rich while the assorted nuts and berries were again sugar packed. The shepherd's pie was filling and felt like a complete meal. Pork ribs may have been a little overwhelmed by the bbq coating.

We came around 2pm for brunch (which ends at 3). There were three parties ahead of us, one of them was a group of 16 which we all waited outside. The place has lots of tables and can definitely accommodate big parties hence the party of 16! The decor is super cute and the atmosphere is lively. I love a hearty brunch, and the Sugar Shack plate was perfect -- a little bit of everything, but in real portions, not just tiny bites. The meat was a bit dry on its own, but pairing it with the beans made it much better. We also tried a crepe and it was honestly the best savory crepe I've ever had. The gravy was heavenly, and we were literally scraping every last drop off the plate. Bathrooms are downstairs and coed, with stalls lined along one side of the room. The walls go from floor to ceiling, so privacy is still good. The sink situation is kind of funny since it's a bathtub, but it was a bit awkward to use. Overall, I loved this place and honestly regret not coming back for dinner while we were in town. Would definitely return!

I had both the Tourtière and a small poutine. The tourtiere was cubes of meat not minced. It was quite tasty. The poutine gravy was drinkable. My MIL had the BLT, which was very generous and the attached picture of the Bloody Mary. Service was excellent. They have a store two doors down that had souvenirs which I appreciated. It's busy and the bathrooms are downstairs.

Absolutely love dining at La Bûche in Quebec City! This charming spot features authentic Quebecois rustic vibes and incredibly tasty local food. I ordered mimosa, priced at $12 for the first glass and only $2 for each refill, such a great deal. Three tender duck legs cost just $15, juicy and full of flavour. I also tried the luxurious foie gras poutine for $18+20. The rich foie gras pairs perfectly with crispy fries and savoury gravy. Warm atmosphere, friendly service and satisfying portions, definitely a must-try local restaurant.

I had a great time at La Bûche. We ordered poutine, French toast, and tried two different beers, and everything really captured that hearty, comforting Québécois feel. The food was tasty and satisfying, and it paired perfectly with the relaxed, rustic vibe of the space. The service was excellent -- friendly, professional, and quick, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The venue itself was amazing, with such a fun, cozy atmosphere that makes it stand out. Even the bathroom was incredible, which says a lot about the attention to detail throughout the restaurant. Overall, La Bûche offered a memorable dining experience that was as much about the warm hospitality and atmosphere as it was about the food and drinks. PS. Our server was womderful but obsessed with going to the US to eat at Olive Garden and I don't know if I can support that.

A must try when in Quebec. Outstanding food, and exceptional service. The decor and music enhance the overall experience.

Beautiful restaurant nestled in old Quebec City. We found this spot on a food tour and came back on our own the next day! Delicious light eggs filled with a mild cheese and sautéed mushrooms, side of sweet apples and savory potatoes- loved every bite! My husband enjoyed the breakfast sampler with small portions of crepe, potatoes, meats and beans! Nice to try multiple small bites!! We enjoyed our breakfast with a view of the busy city streets ! Tip- very popular spot, get there early or make a reservation, especially if you prefer a table with a view.

It was directly in front of and below the bar such that you could both eat dinner and drink at the bar simultaneously. Totally unacceptable. We requested a change to either outdoors or another indoor table which was away from the bar in a corner toward the front of the place. Both were instantly denied with no reasonable alternative suggested by the owner himself, short of waiting an hour for a different table to open. I understand places like to get rid of their undesirable tables but do not foist this onto patrons who have booked weeks to a month in advance! We ended up not eating there at all and went to a vastly superior spot near the FRONTENAC , LE CONTINENTAL- excellent in all aspects! Bottom line - stay away from BISTRO St- MALO- un accommodating and using totally undesirable tables so close to the bar that you may as well be drinking your dinner instead of eating it! This place is NOT recommended by me.There are numerous better choices in QUEBEC CITY with its hundreds of wonderful places to select. Who needs this type of aggravation? Zero stars from me!

A Delicious Lunch in the Heart of Old Québec…read more We stopped into Lapin Sauté for lunch following a wonderful walking tour of Old Québec, and it proved to be the perfect place to relax and enjoy a memorable meal. Both of us opted for the table d'hôte menu, which included an appetizer, main course, dessert, and tea or coffee. We happily paid the small supplement to begin with the Duck Foie Gras served with strawberry-rhubarb jam and brioche--a decision we did not regret for a second. The foie gras was rich and silky, while the sweet-tart jam provided a beautiful contrast. For our entrées, I chose the Pulled Rabbit Poutine with devil's sauce. Comfort food elevated to another level, it was hearty, flavorful, and utterly satisfying. My dining partner selected the Cassoulet with duck sausage and duck leg confit. While the duck was excellent, it was the beans that stole the show--perfectly cooked, deeply flavored, and exactly what a great cassoulet should be. We finished with desserts: a traditional Far Breton for me and a beautifully executed Crème Brûlée for my dining partner. Both were wonderful endings to an already excellent meal. The service was warm and attentive, the ambiance charming and inviting, and the food delicious from beginning to end. Located in the heart of Old Québec, Lapin Sauté is exactly the kind of restaurant travelers hope to discover--authentic, welcoming, and serving food that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended, and we would gladly return on our next visit to Québec City.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

Waitstaff was fully bilingual though the vibe of the place is more Francophone than Quebec tourist. The food was very good, but for the price it wasn't amazing, amazing. My wife said her trout for example was a bith mushy. I had the beef and it was very good. I'd happily it that and the scallop dish (maybe I'd order two, lol) again. Cocktails were also very good. Then there was the pre-dinner mackrel rolled in seaweed. Again this is a solid restaurant and despite being 'fancy' had a very unpretentious vibe about it, which I appreciated. But the price feels a bit high, and the service was quite slow. So for me, it is a 4, but except for a restaurant I ate with friends in Montreal in 2018 (the name of which I am forgetting) and a really excellent spot on Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the it is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in Quebec.

Don't forget to save room for their desserts though because they were so thoughtful and artistically crafted!! Walking in, you go through a modern dining room and foyer. Then you enter their glass ceiling green house room where it's an eclectic but classy collection of plants, art, and decor. Their WINE MENU was an insane list & came as a book that was 50+ pages long!! Along with a bottle of wine, lovely complimentary bread & butter & amuse bouche....here's what we ordered: THE FOIE GRAS EXPERIENCE (5/5) - so fun getting to mix and match all 5 forms of foie gras. The most mind blowing one HAS to be the brûléed/caramelized foie gras in the little dish. Smokey, rich and savoury! LOBSTER BISQUE (5/5) - love the large chunk of fresh lobster. I enjoyed that it's not mashed up with everything and I get to enjoy the textures and flavour pairing. Jean-Luc Boulay Signature dish: Squab from Turlo's farm (5/5) - so many things to rave about with the dish. You simply MUST try this, truly a signature dish. EVERYTHING was amazing, and that stuffed mushroom took it to the next level for me. RACK OF LAMB (5/5) - beautiful cut of lamb (not fatty like how most other restaurants are). It's also presented/deconstructed so nicely for ease of eating! The Cannelé (5/5) - DREAMY dessert. It took me by surprise with the caramelized crispy cross-sectioned Cannelé sandwiched with rum mousse and ice cream. The Imperial (4/5) - great praline dessert

The presentation of the food was probably the best part it felt like being in a art exhibit but you get to taste the art, I'd say that the food we ordered is definitely an acquired taste I prefer less sour/ bitter taste and I found that the dishes we ordered had a earthy flavour and the bitterness you get when eating a lemon/lime, is that a bad thing no I could understand why someone with a different taste would enjoy the dishes, overall happy with the experience but would try other dishes next time

The wait staff was very nice and our waitress explained the entire menu to us, dish by dish. We had the mozzarella/tomato dish to start. I had the gnocchi dish and my mom had the catch of the day which was cod I think. The gnocchi was good but very rich. The hollandaise, the creamy egg, I think there were onions in there.. it was very very rich that it was almost hard to finish.. My mom's dish was delicious as well! For dessert we had the lavender, Chantilly, biscuit thing. It was eh. I wish they had a chocolate dish in the menu.
