Last minute decision to eat out . Hubby picked L's kitchen. We were seated almost immediately. ** reservations required thursdays, fridays and saturdays ** We were lucky today. We managed to walk in and get a table. We love the vibe. It's very cozy reminding me of a small french cottage. Clean and cozy. We don't drink but they do have an excellent selection of wines. And they do offer cocktails, soda and iced tea Hubby and I have gone non alcoholic and we chose ice tea. We had salmon cakes for appetisers, it came out quick Delicious crispy. Hubby's salad came out pretty much the same time. It looked delicious and fresh. Combination of vegetables and tomatoes, croutons and dried cranberries and cheese make the salad look delectable and it didnt disappoint. We both took awhile to decide what we wanted. Every dish looked delicious. We finally decided on steak and meatloaf. My meatloaf is to die for. The meatloaf was juicy and had crispy edges with anice tomato sauce on top on a base of mashed potato. The asparagus was perfectly sauteed. Tender not overly done. We then ordered desserts. Hubby ordered the brownie and I got the strawberry mousse. The brownie was light and delicate yet decadent. Let me explain- the brownie is light like a lava cake its a cross between a brownie and a lava cake. Absolutely delish!! It was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My strawberry mousse was delicious - light and tasted of strawberry fields on a cloud Overall, we will definitely be back. Blown away!!! read more

Oh man. Where to start. Start with a question. Why o why hasn't this place come up in any of my searches for dinner? To sum it up perfect. We pulled up to this quaint little place in a quiet neighborhood and walked in. We noticed the sign outside that said reservations only, but we noticed a couple of empty tables so we went in and asked for a table for 2. The young made a quick check if the dining room and 1 quick check of the reservation book and looked at us to say sure thing, this way please The whole restaurant is quite small, with a nice bar area, and tables that fill it out. I had the beef filet it was served with butter roasted potatoes and asparagus And we started with the salmon cakes. The salmon was flavorful and tasted wonderfully. The beef was cooked nice and cut like cake. It was wonderful. I finished with the house made brownie that was served with ice cream It was an awesome cross between brownie and lava cake. My husband and I visited L's Kitchen for the first time recently with our daughter and her friends and we all loved every bite. The staff were friendly, prompt, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. It was a special touch to have Chef Lawrence greet and speak with each patron at the start of the evening. We started with the potato cakes and asparagus; both were exceptional. For entrees, we ordered the meatloaf, La Tartine, carbonara fettuccine, and La Ratatouille. All were impressive, with great balance and technique. Dessert did not disappoint either: the house-made brownie and crème brûlée were both excellent finishes. We paired dinner with a bottle of rosé, and my husband (a self-proclaimed cocktail snob who rarely says this) called his Sidecar "perfect." With the extensive gluten-free options and consistently great food, we'll definitely be back soon to try more. read more

L's Kitchen absolutely earns five stars from us. From the start, the experience felt special. The head chef stopped by our table to personally explain the two specials for the evening, which was a great touch and made the meal feel much more personal. We started with the potato cakes, and they were excellent -- perfectly crispy on the outside, tender inside, and topped with sour cream that brought everything together. A simple appetizer done really well. For our entrées, I had the pasta special and my wife ordered the Chef's Chicken. Both dishes came out hot and were full of flavor. You could tell everything was freshly prepared and thoughtfully executed. We were genuinely impressed with both meals. The service was just as strong as the food. The wait staff checked on us regularly, kept our water glasses full, and were attentive without being intrusive. I'm back again at L's kitchen, just a week after my first visit. Today, I'm here to pick up two bottles of wine I purchased after our very enjoyable evening at one of their Tasting Menu events. So, while here, I stayed for lunch and selected Pasta Carbonara. Now, this dish is a favorite pasta of mine. So while not an "expert' in all things pasta - I've had dozens of versions of Pasta Carbonara. Usually they're a small mound of deliciously cheesy pasta with a smoky pancetta and egg base. This version was different than others I've had - it was better and it was bigger! This will sit at the top of my Pasta Carbonara favorites until someone somewhere can knock it off. That's saying a lot for a small, French inspired restaurant, in Lincoln, Nebraska. But as you know - it's the ingredients and the chef - not the name and location that determines great food. Now let me tell you about their wildly popular Tasting Menu event. My wife and I attended with another couple. We enjoyed the five courses and the wine pairings very much. However, the highlight is the "theatrical" introduction of each menu item and the "story" that accompanies it. Lawrence DeVilliers, the owner and chef has a background in theater and you can really see and hear it at these events. He's funny, he's entertaining, gracious and unassuming in his approach to each of his diners. A true professional - both as a thespian and a chef! L's Kitchen is a wonderful place to dine. read more

Stopped because I just saw that it was there ....to eat lunch. Also was curious if this is something I would like to bring my wife too. I was dressed down for attire because I was working. And maybe that is the reason the waitress did not deem it necessary to come Ask me how my food was. Or bother to return to refill my water ...had she done either of those she would've received a tip .as it was I did not tip much. I ordered the special of the day ratatouille fettuccine and when I receive my plate, it was way less than half full ...arranged very nice ....but for $15 it should've had more vegetables and pasta. I read in some of the other reviews that the chef came out and personally greeted all the customers. And while I did observe him come out and personally greet a couple of gentlemen that came in after me ,I guess I must not been well dressed enough to receive that courtesy. He did however, come out and check me out as I was cashing out. The Taste of the food was OK. The pasta and veggies were done properly. The cheese seemed to have turned to glue on my plate, though perhaps if there were more items for the cheese to cling to then run down onto the plate might've been better .....in a nutshell I like the atmosphere I think this restaurant has great potential. The chef seemed very friendly to the guys that he chose to speak to ....Some Advice ? the Bible says the liberal soul shall be made fat ......be sure to give fair portions for fair price. I'm not the only one that mentioned that it was pretty pricey for what you got. Second piece of advice the waitress was really nice, but lacking in seeing the need to attend and returned to check on the guests..... I do not tip because I buy food but because of the service that I am provided... I left the table without my check ,having been done with my food ,no offer of a refill for my water ,or a return to my table at least asking me how the food was. Would I return there? ....Maybe if somebody could convince me that some of these concerns were addressed.... My sister and her husband have been before and raved about this place and she wanted to go there for her birthday. We walked into the restaurant and they had our reservations written down wrong. Her husband updated it about 3 days before the actual reservation (and got a confirmation of the change). It is small in there and they require reservations. One of the waitstaff (a manager(?)) proceeded to lie to kitchen staff and say we had a reservation, but brought additional people. We offered to show them the reservation confirmation with what we brought and they rudely said "Its fine, we'll make it work". We understand that mistakes happen and people are human, but blaming a customer for your mistake does not make for a great experience. My sister left the place and instantly broke into tears because of the way that this situation was handled. It was my first time at L's Kitchen and I loved the food that I was served and the ambiance, which is where the stars are coming from. read more

Stopped in L's while in Lincoln on business. Easy to find, own parking lot, warm welcome when I entered. I was quickly seated and drink order taken, refreshing. I ordered the Chicken w/mushroom sauce... marvelous! The mashed potatoes had goat cheese that gave it a subtle twist on the classic mash. Waitress was attentive, prices spot on.. I also understand they now carry wine. For a newer establishment they are well on their way. Hope to try Hungarian Goulash next trip. read more

What an excellent experience I had at L's. I called them a little bit before they opened to see if they had any reservations available, as they highly recommend reservations due to the fact that they fill up so fast and can run out of certain items some days. I was able to snag something for right after opening, and headed on down. It's a very unassuming little place, and you'd never expect the caliber of food to come from it by looks alone. They seem to have done what they could to 'fancy' up the place, but I would say the black and white checker tablecloths were a bit much/tacky in my opinion. But that's just me being design picky. The vibes of the bar setup they have are quaint and look nice, and I'm sure it will be amazing once they've got things set up with a dedicated bartender to craft cocktails for patrons or recommend other drink/wine pairings. The highlight at the present moment is, of course, the food! If you check their well-designed website, you should be able to see their menu and some of the stories behind the food options. They also seem to have a facebook page that gets updated. When I saw that they had crab cakes, well, that's what made me come! I was enticed by the scallops and other items on the menu, everything sounded phenomenal. It's rare that a menu makes me long for nearly everything available. The menu is also small and unintimidating, which I prefer. It's nice to have things narrowed down to select, well-crafted dishes. It's clear the chef here knows what he's doing and has a vision for something akin to upscaled comfort food. I like that everyone who works there is introduced on the website as someone valuable and individual contributing to the operation of this lovely place. On to the dishes of the night: Complimentary house-made dinner roll! YUM. With the sweet, soft honey butter...amazing way to start out the meal. These were some *damn good* rolls. Warm, pillowy, and savory. Crab cakes! Wow. I am a huge crab cake fan. I go bonkers for them. These ones were perfectly tender and not at all 'mealy' like some can be. There was a focus on the integrity, texture, and flavor of the crab and not whatever fillers you could put in it. Amazing pick. Meatloaf! Great meatloaf. Came on some sort of smokey potato creme thing (see photo) and some perfectly cooked salted asparagus on the side. It was a hearty chunk of meatloaf with great texture. The potato things were my favorite part of the dish, actually! Bavarian creme! This is their only dessert on the menu, but when you go there you can ask if they have anything else prepared that day. It was a beautifully presented and delightfully creamy, vanilla sweet creme base with a tart and booze-heavy strawberry topping. It tasted lovely, but I wasn't a huge fan of the texture and uber tartness of the strawberry on top. I kept wanting to just get to the cream part already. The shape of the glass it was in made me wary to try and mix all the strawberry into the creme, and I kinda wanted to just taste the creme on its own, which was difficult without having to just spoon huge globs of the strawberry part by itself into my mouth. I suggested that they maybe add alternative creme toppings to add to the menu for those folks who might not be feeling like something fruity for dessert that day. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it, I just probably wouldn't order it again if it was the strawberry topping. TLDR; I would absolutely place this spot onto your radar and make a reservation to head there early to be able to order whatever item you desire. They have amazing options, friendly service, and a professional system going on here. The food will send you home happy and satisfied and wanting to come back to try something new. read more

This is a charming little restaurant. We were there at about 6 pm on a Saturday night. Staff were very nice and attentive. We started with the eggplant parmesan bites, which we were marvelous. I'm not a huge fan of eggplant, but the breading, marinara, and cheese were spot on. For our mains, I had the carbonara fettuccine, which has a lot of depth of flavor. My wife had the Alaskan salmon, which I sampled. It was cooked and seasoned very well, and topped with a tomato crème that I would eat on pretty much anything.
