My wife and I got into the area late and were looking for a place to get dinner. We were told L'Hitondelle was still open so we walked over from our hotel. We were seated immediately by the friendly staff. With my wife's Dutch and the staff's English we were able to order great food and some beer. If you find yourself near the Amsterdam Airport (Schipohl), you would be remiss if you did not give L'Hirondelle. It was so good in fact, we went twice in the same week. Over the two meals, we sampled appetizers including Beef Carpaccio (best ever!), Grilled Octopus and Tuna Tartare. All were simply amazing! Each meal starts with homemade bread which I could have made a meal on by itself. My wife and I ended up splitting an entree each night. The first night it was the Veal and the 2nd night was Spinach Ravioli. While both dishes were excellent, the Veal was absolutely perfect! We also managed a White Chocolate Mousse one night and the delectable Apple Pie the next. Good wine list and if the owner Arwin still has it in stock, I recommend ALTARIS ( Verona Italy) for those who like deep, bold reds. Like the reviews say, close to the Hampton & Holiday Inn. Nice location - but I've got to agree with one of the reviewers who commented on the disinterested staff. But I'm begging to learn that all restaurants in the Netherlands are 'hit or miss' - either the staff is great, or they are horrible; the food is either really good or sucks the big Stroopwaffle. At L'Hirondelle, the chefs were spot on - someone in the kitchen truly cares about their art. But our pseudo waiter - I just wanted to dunk his Dutch butt into the nearest canal (and there are a lot of canals in Holland, FYI). So the food is a 5 star - but our waiter gets a no star. And if the management of L'Hirondelle ever reads this: your female waitstaff on 17 Oct 2014 was very polite - greeted us at the door and when we left. Your chefs were EXCELLENT!! High marks. But the arrogant dirt bag waiter guy that you employ - he's hurting your business. read more

Ordered mustard soup and found it to be good but not great. More of a butter soup than a mustard soup..(Can go a little stronger on the mustard) Main entree was grilled salmon with Frits and salad. Salmon steak was grilled and cooked to perfection.. Look out for the bones! Waiter was friendly, spoke English and was attentive. Stopped in here on a Friday evening as I was staying nearby at the Holiday Inn Express. After reading the reviews, I was not expecting much. I was so pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very cozy and has a wonderful ambiance. I loved the decor - think old French farmhouse - and the outdoor patio seems like it would be a beautiful spot in warmer weather. Food - had a yellow pepper soup with chorizo oil. It was SO delicious. Entree was ahi tuna - this was good, but I felt it was maybe a tad overcooked as I like mine really rare. Dessert - fried banana. Yum! But, what sealed the deal and gets them five stars was the staff. They were super friendly. They also noticed that my colleague and I came in with umbrellas (we had walked a couple blocks in the rain from the Holiday Inn...winter rain), and they so kindly offered to take us back to the hotel. They have a shuttle van! Who knew?! (We didn't...would've been nice of the hotel to tell us this since the van was co-branded with a Holiday Inn sticker, but I digress. My meal and quality of service was excellent. I had a chicken salad, soup of the day (asparagus soup), and an orange cheesecake desert. The portion sizes may be small by American standards but it was the perfect serving for me. Both the soup and salad were very tasty and full of flavor. It felt freshly prepared and the serving was very artistic. My cheesecake was a little too big for me and I would have preferred a slightly smaller serving. I found the waitresses to be very polite, attentive, and easy to talk with. They managed managed the tables with ease and a smile. I have to confess I came on a Sunday evening and maybe it wasn't running at full customer capacity. The interior is nicely furnished and very clean. It was a little too dark and chilly to eat outside in the evening but it seems like a great place to have a table. Maybe next time! The menu is small and a little pricey but there is something for everyone. I don't know if they have a menu for children with simpler tastes but they did have high chairs for little ones if I am not mistaken. read more

After traveling between Copenhagen, Berlin and Stockholm for 3 weeks I ended up here during my weekend layover back home to ny. This has been one of, if not the worse experience in the 3 weeks. Not just because our server was an American with an "American Nasty/Unfriendly" attitude who felt it necessary to tell me their is one chef in the back cooking so stop complaining if the folks beside me who came in 20 minutes after me got their main before me, but also because their menu/3 course menu was garbage... I ordered lamb stew and got ground lamb meat with veggies... A stew is a stew and nothing else.... GOOGLE STEW... I was totally disappointed with service and food. Staying at the nearby Hampton Inn, this is the closest place serving food. Slow and disinterested service and It took over an hour to get a sandwich. Unfortunately, not many other options in the area. read more

My wife and I and our good friends visited L'Hirondelle several times while on vacation. We were within walking distance but that was not the reason we returned.
