I like to spend time in Paris sampling various neighborhood bakeries when I am in Paris. On my most recent trip, I managed to visit 4 in this neighborhood, all within 10 minutes of each other. This is the one that "wins" as the best for croissants, chaussons de pomme, and pain au raisins. Overall, I'd put this bakery on par with my other favorites in Paris, Josephine Bakery (https://www.yelp.com/biz/josephine-bakery-paris) and Moulin de la Vierge (https://www.yelp.com/biz/le-moulin-de-la-vierge-paris-2).
I prefer my croissants light, airy, flaky crusted, and reasonably buttery. That is what this bakery has - particularly in its excellent chocolate croissants (pain au chocolat). Pick one up, and it feels like "nothing." Others weigh more. Bite into it, and you'll get that little bit of crunch, flakes scattering, and nice chocolate flavor. (A tip: if you can get it fresh out of the oven, even better. I got really lucky this way on a weekend morning visit here, and those chocolate croissants were particularly good.)
One other thing. This bakery goes by many names. When you walk down the street, you won't see "L'atelier des saveurs" on the outside. Instead, you will see "Campaillette" (which appears to be a network of artisan boulangers) or "Aux Delices de Glaciere" (which may be the name of the shop now). I'm not sure what the correct name for this bakery is, but I'm sure I'll visit it again if I'm in the neighborhood. read more
