El día de ayer 30 de junio fui como regularmente voy a este establecimiento ya que me queda cerca a mi trabajo, y que decepción con el servicio al cliente que están ofreciendo, me atendió una señora que no tuvo un buen día me imagino, porque ordené 4 sándwiches y solo en uno de ellos le expliqué que quería retirar el huevo porque no me gusta y me contestó que no podía hacer eso porque se me iba a cobrar extra, es en serio? Yo no quería nada extra al contrario quería retirar un ingrediente pero me dijo que no, que no había "sustituciones " le expliqué nuevamente, no quiero substituir nada solo no quiero huevo en mi sándwich y no lo quiso hacer, den mejor entrenamiento a su personal para ser un poco flexibles con el cliente y más aún con un cliente habitual. I could go on and on about how much I love this Italian sandwich shop. I love ordering from here and I also love coming here in person the workers are always so delightful. Chicago lacks some good sandwich shops but this place takes on the burden of it all and carries it on its back with full strides. This is my second time being to L'Appetito and again I am blown away at how good their sandwiches and prices are. Just a little over $10 got me a sandwhich and a pop and some chips. I came here just before lunch time and was able to eat the food right inside the seating area. Had I shown up any later I would've missed out because it got quite busy for lunch. With it being a smaller location I would suggest just grabbing your food to go or if you have the time and the ability to. Take a seat and enjoy! 10/10 yet again! read more

Had the moz cheese/tomato sandwich with chips and a snapple for roughly $11. Fair price because the sandwich was large but I enjoyed my chips more than my sandwich. It was bland and there was far more bread than filling. The tomato was slightly old/mushy and I've had far better similar sandwiches. Unfortunately the worker recommended this sandwich over the others... The staff was nice and I liked the place because it was clean and quiet. I wish I enjoyed my sandwich. I've been wanting to try this spot for a minute and sadly I was disappointed. I expect the breakfast sandwiches to be fresh to order. Fresh scrambled eggs, ham and bacon and then they would press the sandwich. It's not like that here. They have a case where they pre cook their sandwiches and just press it so that it can be hot. When this happens, your sandwich is super soggy from the eggs that have been sitting. Price wise I am glad I paid what I did, which was 5 bucks, but you can get a better breakfast sandwich at McDonalds or Starbucks. I won't be back. read more

Food is good but they don't mind wasting it. I work at northwestern and ordered a breakfast sandwich. I took it back up to my unit to eat, realized it was the wrong sandwich and took it back down to have them make me a new one. While standing there waiting the woman behind the doctor made me throw the original (full) sandwich away. She told me once, I said ok and continued to just stand there. She then proceeded to raise her voice and tell me that she would throw it away it I wouldn't. I said the mistake was on you guys, it's a waste of food I will have someone upstairs eat it. She said no and then came out from around the counter to take the sandwich from me and throw it away, I let her and haven't been back since. read more

My Tonino panini was large, but barely edible. Somehow it was extremely mushy despite sorely lacking in cheese or tomatoes. The chicken was cheap and flavorless (packaged, sliced strips vs. fresh chicken breast). Stopped in for a quick lunch bite with my fiancé when we were in Chicago for the day. 5 years ago he lived in the building above and still raves about the spot. We shared the Italian sub which was BIG, packed with lots of meat and had the option of mild/medium/hot giardiniera. Half the sandwich was definitely enough to eat without being stuffed. The place wasn't busy when we arrived and our sandwich was ready in record time. That sandwich man doesn't mess around!! They had a large assortment of Italian cookies and goodies as well as traditional Italian hot dishes, all of which I would come back to try. A good rule of thumb in Chicago is to always get an Italian Beef whenever you have the option. I didn't follow my own advice on this at L'Appetito and was incredibly envious of the dude chowing down on one across from me. It looked amazing and seeing him sink his teeth into that beef, pepper, and dipped bread medley made the Muffeltto that I ordered seem a little less than spectacular. Don't get me wrong, it was a decent sandwich, but the bread to meat ratio was pretty in favor of the carbs. It's big but not exactly in the way that you'd want a fatty Italian sando to be. They do have lots of other options on their menu and pretty much everything is made to order so whatever you get you can count on it being fresh. Pricing is not the cheapest choice in town, but you're definitely getting better than about any chain sandwich shop in town. read more

L'Appetito is a solid Italian deli that hits that sweet spot of a $10 meal that provides enough quality and filling (a surprisingly hard bargain to find in Chicago, let alone in River North). The since-shuttered Panozzo's got me on a meatball sub kick, and while L'Appetito's isn't in the same stratosphere, it's eons better than the dreck at Subway. The meatball sub add L'Appetito is often a daily special. I believe it used to be $6 for the sandwich but it now runs $7. Cheese can be added, provolone by default, and I ask for giardiniera and extra sauce on the sandwich. I've had other stuff there, too. The muffaletta is no great shakes, but then again, I've had one from Central Grocery in New Orleans, so all comparisons are futile. The pasta special, for $6, is a sweet takeout lunch deal. I'm also a sucker for the kolackis, which come raspberry or apricot flavored. read more

What a great find! I needed some sandwiches to take to a picnic and since this was right around the corner from work I thought I'd give it a try. The sandwiches were great- so fresh, and the service so pleasant, it has become my "go to" when I need a filling sandwich. My favorite? The Luino. This is a grilled sandwich with swiss cheese, roasted peppers and salami is out of this world! (shh . . .don't tell my naturopath as this is definitely not on my dairy free, gluten free list) But every once in a while a splurge is needed. But even if you don't go "all the way" to the Luino, they have classic salads, sandwiches and soups, hot entrees, fresh baked goods, chips, soda and custom coffee drinks. And if you call ahead, your order will be ready when you pop in. This location also has an outdoor patio which is the perfect place to enjoy your sandwich. I dream about that Luino sandwich. I have been here quite a few times in the last five years. I feel like that guy who played Geena Davis's husband in the movie "the long kiss goodnight" where he was like "shit I guess I do drink and swear". I'll take obscure movies from the 90's for $400, Alex :) I feel like that because I have been coming on and off for so long without actually knowing what the place was called. One of my favorite things to eat is this grilled veggie sandwhich. I am not sure how long it was sitting there. Don't you wish that these places that are deli's or places like that had markers that said " hey you just picked up the baked macaroni- I have been here since yesterday at 3:30 PM- 16 hours elapsed" OK I actually think that most of the food here has been made in that calendar day that you are shopping. The customer service ruined my experience here. I have an allergy to sesame seeds and when I went eat my sandwich I noticed the bread had sesames on top. I went back to the deli counter and asked if there was anyway they could replace it using bread without sesame. They were visibly upset, and told me yes but I would have to pay $1.50 more. I said no problem. Then I watched them just take the insides of my sandwich and put it on the new bread. They didn't cut the sandwich in half and then slapped it back on the counter. Then after I went and paid and sat down the guy from the deli counter came over to the cashier and was speaking in Italian and pointing to me, which I believe to be him complaining about me right in front of me. Ate a quick lunch at L'Appetito the other day. There were plenty of yummy-looking selections to choose from, including sandwiches, pizza slices, and pasta. I bought arancini, which are baseball-sized fried rice balls stuffed with either ground beef or spinach. One of each will make a tasty and filling lunch. Great little Italian spot that has it all. I've started to make it a morning routine with a coffee and a bagel. The coffee beats anything around - Illy brand and the ladies who make it in the morning do a great job! The breakfast sandwiches are also great if you're looking for a bit more. They also do lunch sandwiches which are amazing - i can't recommend enough the Rosina, it's my favorite. My sandwich was fantastic and might be the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had but the staff was kind of rude. I had placed my order through Yelp (or via Grubhub I guess) and when I got there said I placed an online order. They seemed very confused by the "online" part and got snippy with me that that was not considered online. I would go back though because the food was delicious. read more

Located in the bottom floor of the hancock, you are instantaneously transported away to a Italian cafe which serves an amazing selection of italian deli meats on hot or cold sandwiches. This is a volume business taking advantage of a very good location. The pizza is all bread...seriously, all bread. The sandwiches, same....the bread to (in this case) sausage was 2/1. You could have easily put two pieces of sausage in that bun and still have room for the peppers et al. The bakery is acceptable, but outsourced. The arancini are extraordinarily bland. Yuck!!! That's all I have to say about the food and the customer service. I work in the hospital so I decided to give them a try and I wish I would have not let my love for potbelly and subway over loud my better judgement. I paid $10 for half of the Bomba sandwich and it disappointed. It was dry, chewy, and loaded with EVOO. The taste was just too off-putting. The meat was good, but the overall concept of the sandwich was an epic fail. For $10 I could've paid for a great tasting sub with a drink and bag of chips. Instead, I get EVOO drunk. I mean it was so greasy that I was leaking. I couldn't even finish it. I got real sick afterwards. I understand that they were trying to rush but please have mercy on me. Not only was the food bland, the staff was rude and pushy, I think the guy making the sandwiches told me to "hurry up" Overall, I am pissed beyond measure but hey I already know I won't be back... This is my lunch time go to spot. This is a quick serve Italian restaurant/mini grocery store. The food is made fresh daily and service is friendly and consistent. They have cold/warm sandwiches, salads and daily special entrees at the main counter. When you have your delicious meal head to the front register area that's surrounded by a pastries case full of sweets and fresh gelato. Don't ask whether you should get a cookie or scoop of gelato, just get it. Seating is limited and gets packed quickly during the lunch rush. Also, feel free to stop in for breakfast.
