    Braised beef Ravioli
    Marc M.

They advertise as Italian and French food. I would categorize it as mostly Italian. Pasta, pizza, pasta side dishes, Italian veal dishes, etc. The table d'hôte did have some French dishes. They didn't have our reservation which could have been a problem but they weren't full for a Saturday night. The appeal of byow did motivate us here. Pleasant decor and good service. Reasonable delays in service. They appetizers were ok. The crab cakes had much breading served on a marinara sauce. Not sure. The mains a little better. The veal was a winner. The brazed beef ravioli lacked brazed beef. The penne were fine. The lobster tartare fell short in taste. We were a little disappointed. I'll try them again at another location.

L'académie is one of those restaurants that you hear about all the time and people rave about a lot. I had the opportunity to try for the first time in November last year. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, it is huge and it can fit a lot of people. The whole vibe of the restaurant is very chic and I'm sure older people might love that vibe. As for the food, I was very disappointed. This place is WAY overpriced. They have a "table d'hôte" menu where they add a salad to your plate. The salad is very disappointing. It consists of greens, a few carrot slices on the side and a cheap sauce that I feel isn't even made by the restaurant. It was very dry and lukewarm. As for the main plate, I had the lamb square. Again, very average for the price. It was dry, and the sauce was all pepper-tasting, not good at all. The potatoes were dry as well, and the vegetables they put as a side were tasteless. The portions are also pretty small for what you're paying. My friend had the sirloin steak and said it was dry as well as bland. The dessert might've been the only thing that I've enjoyed during this meal. I tried the crème brûlée and it was very good, perfectly crispy on the top. The waiters were very nice and patient considering the fact that we were a big group (20+ people). The food was very questionable though. I heard they changed their menu a little bit and have newer options and specials during the week, might try it again soon for that

I came here with a group of about 12 people for a birthday. The service was actually good for the number of people we were! I shared three appetizers, cheesy eggplant, smoked salmon, and calamari. All were pretty good. As a main, I ordered the Provencal mussels and fries, which was quite bland. Apart from the food, the restaurant itself is nice and spacious with a warm atmosphere. The manager was very nice, we had a little chat with him.

Kaylie our waitress was great. Personable, knowledgeable and doesn't beat around the bush. The mussels' sauce was great (Roquefort) but that's to be expected as I order it every time from every location and it always hits the mark. The bread was warm when delivered to the table which is always key. There were a number of the mussels that weren't properly cleaned however. We ordered the lasagna as it's one of the only pastas made in-house. It didn't have as much of the mushroom or meat that the menu would have led me to believe, but the noodles and sauce were great, there was enough cheese, and the dish was good. Would I have paid full price for this meal ($19 usually, weekday discounts push it down to $14), not really. I would have lacked the "oumph". But hey, it's decent food, BYOW, and the location itself is visually pleasing. Looks like a hit-or-miss based on other reviews.

Chewed on a metal wire, found in my fettuccini Alfredo.

Never going back. Really long wait to get our food and then our server brought out the soup and salad after we received our entées. Also what's the point of having TVs in the restaurant if you can't change the channel?? Asked if we could watch the hockey game and we were told that it's impossible to change the channel...what a joke. I must say the food was good and at a reasonable price, but if you check the photo attached you'll see that there was a metal wire from a dish washing scrubber in my food.

Just went for lunch. The reason that I gave them 2 stars is because the restaurant itself is nice. First impressions, dirty plate(s). Bread plate, soup bowl both dirty. Not horribly but makes you pause. We ordered calamari starter and myself the chef special ( which was a pork loin in a mustard sauce) and my husband ordered muscles. The calamari was horrible, sitting in oil, yet cool and slightly raw. Freezer burn tasting, and overall not tasty, just salty. When the waitress asked I told her, her response was "Oh well." Shrugged and off she went. We finally got our soup- cold dirty bowl. Left mine uneaten. Waited quit a while but finally got our main course. One part on the top of the plate was hot, the rest cold again. Portions were small( I mean one carrot, 3 baby potatoes, 6 green beans and few small pieces of pork) the only "hot" thing was the pork the sauce was bechamel not mustard. Not finished either. And I was hungry! My husbands was also cold, very small fries portion and not very tasty either. No bread given to dip into the sauce. To top it off, they gave him mayo which had a horrible yellow skin on it. See picture. The service was slow ( took well over an hour and it was not busy). Will NOT be returning.

We wanted to try the Tomahawk but it wasn't on the menu so we decided to do steak on another day. To drink we ordered the apple cider. The cider was delicious and very crispy like I was eating a Cortland apple. We were served crispy bread with herb butter. The bread was crispy like toast and the butter was soft. It came with a small jar of baby dill pickles. They had a good crunch! We started with the lobster bisque. This bisque was very tasty. We could taste the lobster and it was very light; not a heavy or overly creamy soup. Pooh ordered the seafood risotto and I took the Dijon chicken. Both dishes were amazing. Pooh really enjoyed his risotto. He likes the addition of zucchini to give it a little crunch . The seafood was cooked to perfection. My chicken was super tender. I could taste the Dijon mustard. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the green beans were crispy and cooked perfectly. Our server was very polite and checked on us regularly. He apologized for not getting the wine when our meal arrived. Our only complaint was the wine. Usually the wine arrives right before the meal but our meal arrived first and we ate slowly as we waited for the wine to come. The wine arrived five minutes later and the server explained that it wasn't cold enough to give us. By the time I finished eating (because we had to wait for the wine) my potatoes were cold. We finished our evening with dessert. I had the lemon-in-a-jar and Pooh had the Crème brûlée. Pooh's crème brûlée was perfect. My lemon dessert was too sweet. The tartness of the lemon was overpowered by the sweetness of the almond crumble We enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent but they need to put the white wine in a cooler sooner.

I order a salmon meal. The salmon was tasteless but thankfully the sauce helped it. The mocktail was good. They had quite good amount of people there on a Sunday but definitely had open tables if I wanted to sit at a two seater but they suggested I go to the bar which is huge, but no one else was sitting there. Overall an okay spot, nice inside, my one dish was mediocre but not sure what the other dishes taste like.

You will find Suzanne and her husband who run and own the place. They have been around for over 27 years serving you nothing but delicious meats and cheeses. We decided to go as a group of 3 at 7:30 pm on a Friday, it wasn't to busy but since Suzanne is the only one who works there it does take some time. We started off with a bottle of wine which was great and than learned a bit about the menu. I decided to go with the cheese fondue with the beef which came with a salad and chocolate fondue at the end. With our cheese we decided to get some grison to dip with the cheese and it was fantastic never thought about doing it like that before but adding it to my fondue nights at home. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the dipping sauce they tasted like sour cream and I'm used to a more mayo and garlic taste like they have at alpenhause. We did not get to do the chocolate at the end as we had to go but I loved the food and would recommend it if you're in the neighbourhood
