La bomba
Peggy C.

My last dinner in BCN, a new friend I made while I was there took me to this little restaurant. It's in a small courtyard, in front of an old church. One reason we're eating here was because of the Sant Joan celebration that was scheduled to happen after dark at this plaza. Needless to say it was packed. Somehow (I'm sure having a local who could speak the language) we managed to get a prime table outside. The menu offered a mix of tapas (or raciones). They have it in English (with funny sayings as menu subtitles). The waiter actually spoke English very well, but I let my friend did the ordering. I wanted to try the bombas (which is a bigger rounder version of a croquette) and it arrived covered in an aioli sauce and topped with a red pepper hot sauce. It was good, but nothing too extraordinary. However, the fried small fish (served in a paper cone) WAS the simpliest yet tastiest treat. It's like popcorn, but of fish. It's just crunchy enough, but not overly breaded or greasy. The fish was not at all fishy. The light salt made it a perfect snack, and it tasted good even after it got cold. The grilled shrimps (5 to an order for about 15 Euro) were DIVINE. PLEASE if you are not the type that suck the heads and all the juices, order something else. Because these shrimps didn't get burnt to death in vein. The freshness was in every molecule of the shrimp goodness. They were on the undercooked side; it was done that way because nothing ruins seafood faster than overcooking them. The last dish was grilled octopus. After eating the shrimps, this dish was a little underwhelmed. It was fresh and good but it lacked seasoning. Between the 2 of us, and 2 glasses of cava, the bill came to 48 Euros... not too shabby. Overall the atmosphere and the food quality and service were all great. And I know it's not fair, but the Sant Joan Devil Dance performance literally escalated this dining experience into one of the most memorable moments in my life.

Family-run tapas bar in the church square of the old fisherman's district. Third-generation chef Jaume runs the kitchen, and he faithfully serves his mother's famous bomba recipe. We got those, grilled sardines, salad and tortilla (all good) while we waited for a table at Can Majo.

Phone stollen out of my Amazon Package by the employees. When I arrived in the bar, one employee was playing with my package. After I opened it I found that thing (see picture) Employees first claimed that only the boss has access to the video camera. Later when I came with the police, the employees claimed that the camera is fake.

At the bar!

Good food, great service. Pork rib was excellent. Located in a quiet square, outside seating is very nice

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

We ordered the zucchini noodles with prawns and cuddlefish, zucchini flower stuffed with burrata, goat cheese and honey toast. Everything was good. We also had the black paella with prawns aioli. The charge for paella is per person but we asked for a portion for 2. Service was nice and friendly. Our server kept us clean and was able to help with off menu drinks. The service was very attentive, and our waiter, a fellow Ecuadorian...was very professional and friendly. We ordered staple tapas and dessert, and the food was very delicious. I had no idea how huge and elegant the restaurant was until I went inside to use the bathroom before leaving. We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. We ordered their homemade Belgian chocolate ice cream, which is hands-down, the best chocolate ice cream I've ever eaten. And we also ordered their version of a crème brûlée called crema Catalonya! Both desserts were amazing, however, I highly recommend the Belgian chocolate ice cream. Overall, the experience was amazing and I hope to pop in again before we leave. Enjoy!

Cute place, nicely decorated- has great seating places to hang out. Staff welcoming and efficient. Food was great- needed a healthy meal- and we got it. We got the fattoush salad: was refreshing Mixed grill- had a kebab, grilled chicken, grilled beef (or lamb maybe- whatever it was, was good), and a lamb chop. Served on the classic thin bread with a side of grilled potato, onion, pepper! It was everything I needed it to be- all the meat was tender, flavorful and moist. Was also the perfect amount for 2- and we finished everything!

Both my son and I are very picky about Lebanese food having been spoiled by the excellent Lebanese in our home town Los Angeles, so we ordered with trepidation. The very first must-try dish immediately set our minds at ease: please, do yourselves a favor and order their Fatoush salad. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish. The service was slow (as everywhere in Barcelona) but it was efficient, and our Egyptian waiter had good recommendations for everything. He was funny and personable.
