Danish meatballs
Dooney G.

Great location off the stroget on a side street. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We sat outside but had to move in when it started to rain. Casual/nice attire but people also very casual after hot day sightseeing. No AC inside fyi like many places. We had the shrimp salad smorrebrod which was fine if not a little heavy with dressing, the danish meatballs were good, and a local whitefish but it had a few bones to deal with. I'd pass on the chocolate cake. It was not worth it. Overall we loved the feel of this place, the variety of choices, the server.... The food was solid. Decent.

Great place for open-faced sandwiches. It's conveniently located off the main shopping street in Copenhagen and is a gem of quintessential Danish culture. The place is decorated with pictures and artifacts and made me feel like I was in someone's Danish's home. The food was fantastic, everything was incredibly fresh. We got to try multiple different types of open-faced sandwiches and basically got to build our own however we wanted. The sandwiches we ordered came out all on one platter so we could mix and match everything. Definitely would recommend this place if you want to try open-faced sandwiches!

5 Stars for fantastic food and a cafe filled with hygge! We came here our first night in Copenhagen in search of a traditional dinner and Danish hygge and were not disappointed! We were promptly seated in the cozy dining room reminiscent of a family home. Our servers were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We were never rushed and it was just like visiting family for dinner. Of course, atmosphere isn't everything. The real star here is the FOOD. I ordered the schnitzel and my companion had the pork. When our plates arrived, we were blown away by the portion sizes as well as the presentation. Everything was beautiful and smelled incredible. The portions were HUGE, but that didn't stop us from ordering pancakes for dessert. We left full and happy, having experienced some of the best traditional fare Copenhagen has to offer. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Stegt flæsk med persillesov

This place was a little weird. When I went in it was mostly empty, but later on, it looked like a tour group had come in, and the guy was dressed up as Santa saying Merry Christmas to everyone. Granted, this is the middle of May, so it was quite an unusual sight. I ended up ordering the Stegt flæsk med persillesov, which is basically fried pieces of pork belly with potatoes, beets, mustard and a cream sauce. I have to say, it was a bit overpowering a bit too much. The fried pieces of pork were fried a bit to a crisp, which with larger pieces doesn't taste as good as if it was bacon thin slices. To top that off, I was putting a creamy sauce on top of it, and it all became a bit too much to handle! My arteries just felt clogged after a few bites. The beets and mustard were supposed to tone it down I guess, but that's like trying to block a dam, with a wooden fence, there was just too much that nothing could tone down how overwhelming it all was. The potatoes themselves were quite good though, and while the white sauce on it's own was kind of boring and bland, eating it with the potatoes was a nice distraction from all that fried pork belly.

Beautiful restaurant with great ambiance!

Off the main shopping street down a quiet side street is a little slice of Danish charm. We found this spot in a guide book and took a chance. The food was authentic, delicious and well portioned at lunch for the price. The wait staff were courteous and helpful. We had schnitzel, herring and cod open faced sandwich platters that were fun and delicious. When we left the waitress handed us a small card and said "come again - we'll be here!" Completely charming!

Beef steak with potatoes and onions... one of the best meals ever!

This restaurant was recommended to us by our tour guide after requesting info on a traditional Danish meal. This place did not disappoint! When we walked in there was a group of men passing around a bottle of vodka and we knew we were gonna like it here. Our server was really attentive and friendly and recommended some dishes for us. My friend went with the salmon and I went with the beef steak. We both agreed our meals were amazing! Everything was fresh and super delicious. It was so good that we had to get dessert. The chocolate fondant was just as impressive as our other dishes. You have to try their delicious food if you're in the area!

Great spot for some Danish food. I like that it's a simple establishment with one guy running the whole show. They do some great open-faced sandwiches and I thorougly enjoyed my massive PLATTER of Stegt flæsk. Bonus points for letting me use the last of my cash and putting the rest on a credit card.

Great family run restaurant on a quiet street off a busy tourist promenade in Central Copenhagen. We were a group of 4 people visiting Copenhagen for the weekend and wanted to visit a traditional Danish eatery. Was recommended this restaurant by our hotel. The meal can be said as quite Nordic and quite Danish. We all order an entree that came out as platters of deliciousness. We had the roast pork with crackling, the fish fillet, and the calves liver with bacon. All was absolutely delicious! Simple flavors with a homey atmosphere really create a great dinner experience.

Went on-spec for one of the busiest evenings in Copenhagen. They managed to squeeze both my colleague and me in. It's all traditional Danish food, delicious cured fish with a sweet mustard that's really spectacular. The main corse was duck with various traditional sides. Check the pictures. If you want to sample authentic Danish food served without fuss by friendly and fun people, get your booking in today.

Great restaurant recommended by our tour guide! We wanted Danish cuisine and this place delivered. We had the smorgasbord, mini Danish lunch and fish and chips with Christmas Pilsner. Excellent lunch!

Woah... a Blue Note in Denmark????? Yes, La Fontaine is a…read moreDanish Blue Note, oldest Jazz club in Copenhagen in the heart of Gammel Strand ( the beach, back in the old days). Ok, folks here are the rules: 1. No resy's first come, first serve 2. 100 patrons can fit, seating is limited 3. Hours: Monday-Thursday, Friday-Saturday opens at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. You need time to grab a drink from the bar, no table service. Beer @60 krones 4. Setting: intimate and cozy. 5. Get there at least 30 minutes before showtime to be guaranteed a seat, hands stamped and pay 140 krones for entrance fee 6. Then..... sit, back, enjoy and let the jazz seep through your veins as it did mine. 7. Check their website for shows and time. ( sorry Yelp, hours listed were incorrect) I saw a great show with Jules Fisher and his very talented quartet ( see video). Absolutely wonderful! This is the type of jazz club I love, people listening to great jazz, humming a familiar tune, clapping, bopping and enjoying the show in an intimate setting. Sunday is free thus tonight what I'm paying for is my drinks and listening to great music. The entire staff are wonderful, cool, friendly and love being here. Love jazz, love La Fontaine! Location: a bit difficult to find: take M2 or M3 to Gammel Strand station, find Hermes shop and walk all the way down until you find La Fontaine. It is before Comedy Zoo place. La Fontaine has a small banner and entrance is behind a large wooden door. It is located on a little street, Kompenstrade.

They played perfect music for a comfortable hangout with friends, on weekends they have live jazz! Also, what I liked was, that smoking was only allowed in a separate small room (no door, but still). Totally recommendable!

Cosy bar. What can I say…read more It offered to great nights for me and the Eurovision gang. It's one of those gay bars that you just can't help but love. Disco balls are everywhere for starters, the waiters are lovely and again speak great English which is helpful. The music was amazing. They had a DJ live mixing. You wouldn't get that in the UK in a bar no bigger than a large garage....it's not called cosy for nothing. Jokes aside, it's a decent size but after 1am is when it come to life and gets very, well cosy.....especially on the tiny dancefloor. That didn't stop us representing the UK though.

I went to Cosy Bar on November 12, 2016 and I've been too angry to write a review since. But now I…read morethink I should warn travelers. The drinks are priced in the local currency. And as a Dumb American, I don't have an immediate instinct for whether the prices are reasonable. My first drink was normal priced. But when the bartender saw that I wasn't pulling out my phone and doing calculations, he saw a chance to get away with thievery. My next drinks ratcheted up in price so that they were the equivalent of over $30 for a simple vodka soda. And because I wasn't doing math, I signed the credit card slips. Which means, of course, that I'm screwed. One charge later converted to $75.30 for two drinks (yep, I keep my receipts - I just didn't review them at the counter). So yeah, they cheated the stupid American. ha ha ha So if you also happen to be a "stupid American", avoid this den of thieves. There are a lot of good and decent Danes... just not at Cosy Bar.
