Earlier this month my 2015 laptop croaked, and, not knowing of alternatives, I brought it to Staples. The guy there said that my motherboard had failed and that I needed a new computer. I knew that I would need to have the new computer set up, transfer all my data, and reinstall some programs, including MS Office. He quoted me $159, said I was limited to three program installations, and kept trying to upsell me to a pricier setup plan. Then I tried Best Buy; they quoted me $200 for a service that included things I didn't need, and said that they didn't do MS Office at all. I looked online for other local computer setup services and found Kyle's Computer Repair, which stated on their webpage that setup would be $69. I was a bit leery of bringing a new computer plus my precious data to an unknown person working out of their home, but the many excellent reviews reassured me. I called and spoke to Linn Wilson. I described my old computer's symptoms, and he confirmed motherboard failure, which was a lot more credible coming from someone who didn't have a new computer to sell me. We spent a half hour on the phone as he told me what to look for in a new computer; he didn't recommend any particular stores or brands so I knew I was getting impartial advice. He invited me to text him with the specs of any new computer I was considering, which I did, and he confirmed my choice. I brought both computers to his home and we spent some time talking about what I would want done. At no time did he say he didn't do an aspect of the job, or that there were limitations, nor did he try to upsell me or add on extra charges. He was patient with me, and with none of the condescension that I often get from men explaining tech to women. On the appointed day I went to pick up my computer. He went over what he had done, made sure I could work everything, and answered my questions. I have nothing but great things to say about KCR! I first used KCR back in 2013. KCR solved my computer problems back then and today I'm happy to report nothing has changed, even his rate of $69!!!! Everyone should first consult (Free!) with KCR to see if he can help. You would be crazy not to. KCR got MS Outlook running for my 3 different emails and set up MS 365 so now all my files in Excel/Word are available. KCR spent probably about 5-7 hours working on my laptop. If you are old school like me, KCR spends the time to explain things and show you new features on your new laptop so you can customize it. My computer has been having problems with starting up for a while and for the last few days it hasn't been able to turn on at all. I called Kyle's Computer Repair, explained the problem, and asked if I could take it in to see if they could fix it. As my computer problem is inconsistent, Linn explained that it would be better for me to go into a "testing phase" where I could isolate or narrow down what the issue could be. Over the phone, Linn walked me through how to get my computer to turn back on and helped me adjust some settings that might help prevent it from not turning back on in the future. Overall, he spent around 20 minutes helping me out. When I asked if I owed him anything, he laughed and said no. Linn could have easily had me take my computer in, replace parts without knowing for sure that they would fix it (I don't know much about computers so I would have just gone along with it), and charge me for it all. But nope! He didn't take advantage of the situation and spent 20 minutes helping me out for free. I don't know about all the other repair shops out there, but it's clear to me that Linn is a very honest man with integrity. If I or my family ever have computer problems, I will happily go to him. read more

I recently had an issue with my laptop that I could not resolve myself, so I needed someone local who could repair it. After researching quite a few places, I came across Kyle's Computer Repair. I sent an email to Linn on a Sunday since they weren't open until the next day. I got a prompt response Monday morning letting me know he could fix my problem and could even pick up my laptop for a very small fee. I did wind up dropping it off Tuesday morning and by Thursday morning it was ready. Linn did an incredible job, all my files, photos and music were saved and he even reloaded certain apps for my gaming daughter. Who we wound up using was Computer Repair of Temecula. We had a HORRIBLE experience with the owner, who did in fact come to our home. He actually told me he was bi-polar and cussed at our computer. I wrote a review, well several of them actually, but each time the owner of Computer Repair of Temecula would write back that I was on drugs, was lying, crazy stuff. It was outrageous. I was actually contacted privately by 2 other people, who had also written bad reviews, trying to warn people of him too. I finally removed my review because of his harassment. Holy Cow! Some of the worst customer service I have had on the phone. I called Kyle's Repair and spoke with Lin. He was very abrasive, impatient, unprofessional, and it was clear he has little to no training on true sales or customer service. I called with a myriad of issues. I have several computers/laptops that need service. I couldn't even get one issue out complete before he would cut me off and tell me he couldn't do it. Very irritating. I asked about a audio port. The audio port in my computer detaches and can be replaced. It was built that way. Before I could tell him anything he starts with "typically it's connected to the motherboard...did you try the one in the back?" Excuse me sir anytime you use "typically" means not always, you didn't give me time to explain the full situation. Also, the one on the back is being used for something else. You basically gave me"did you turn off your computer and turn it back on" treatment. Secondly, I explain I have a custom PC and he says they don't work on custom PC's. I understand you may have restrictions on your capabilities however it doesn't say anywhere on your website you don't work on custom PC's. Seems like a important thing to mention on your site. I see you spent a ton of time on a biography but not on your Q&A which to me would seem more important. I also have a laptop that I needed data recovery from. I have a retail store that needs regular maintenance on our 4 PC's which are not custom. I had a ton of questions about cooling for a new laptop I purchased along with questions about our work computers. Even after I asked you to wait a second after you were cutting me off so I can tell you everything you still cut me off. I don't know what your issue is but you could be a little more gentle with your customers and when they ask you to let them tell you everything maybe you should stay silent and take notes and answer all the questions after all of the customers issues are explained. I was looking for a mom and pop shop for our service needs. This will not be the place for me or my company. I do not recommend. read more

Full confession...when I found the Kyle's Computer Repair website and saw the advertised $69 per repair price, I figured it had to be some sort of a scam along the lines of those $99 whole house carpet cleaning ads (or similar offers from other business like auto repair) where once they hook you in with the low price offer they inevitably try to charge you far more than was advertised. Still, I figured I'd at least give them a call. After only a few minutes of speaking with Linn I knew I was in good hands and my suspicions were unfounded. He spent far more time on the phone with me than I would have ever expected (particularly considering I wasn't a paying customer yet) going into immense detail on some of the potential causes and fixes to the issues I was having with my PC. My computer was returned to me promptly (to my door no less) and works better than it has in years. A few years ago when I had a similar issue with this PC I took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and the same repair (which took far longer and required I drive to the store to drop off and pick up) cost me literally hundreds of dollars. I am so glad that I looked outside Temecula for a computer repair business. Linn is very knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. He helped me to set up the new computer and even saved me some money by installing some programs from the old computer. Linn came to my house and set up the two printers. When he was working on it he was explaining what he was doing, so that next time I would be able to do certain operations myself. Lynn even taught me a couple of new things. My husband had an old file which was sent to him from out of state and he had never been able to open it. Several computer programmers tried to help him with it, but failed. I've been a computer geek most of my life. I can fix most computer problems on my own, but when it comes to the important stuff I like to take it in. A few weeks ago my computer stopped working and I figured it was the processor. Not wanting to completely mess up my computer, I called the shop and explained my predicament. After a few minutes discussing the problem, the person on the phone confirmed I was probably right and needed some serious work done. The only problem is, they didn't offer those kind of services. The person said they weren't sure who would offer them, but gave me a list of referrals to try. These people could have easily had me come in and charged me to look at it, only to tell me what I already knew. I had an issue with my laptop. I could not install windows 10. I contacted Microsoft and after 11 techs and one level 2 tech, they were able to install windows 8.1 but after that my laptop started to shutdown by itself. The level 2 tech told me they would be unable to help install windows 10 for me. Now I had a laptop with windows 8.1 that will shutdown after 5 minutes of use. After reading the reviews I contacted Linn, I explained everything and he asked me to bring the laptop to him and if for any reason he was unable to fix it he wouldn't charge me a penny. After many, MANY, years of trying to find and work with several different computer repair firms/people, I can honestly say that Kyle's Computer Repair may have been my greatest find. Linn is knowledgeable, helpful, thorough and any other other positive adjective you can think of. More importantly, he truly cares about helping and goes the extra yard to help out. His basic fee is $69 which "covers most repairs". And if you think that is a disclaimer and that there is no way that your problem can be fixed for $69, think again. I had a complete hard drive crash and needed Linn to (a) salvage the data from my old computer and (b) set up and place the data onto my brand new desktop (which, by the way, I had shipped directly to him). Not only did he do both of those, he even loaded my Outlook 365 and set it up, and dealt with other set-up jobs that I would have normally had to deal with. And he did all of this in two days! I use my computer for work, so this short turnaround was important to me. So, a "rush" job surely had to cost more,, right?? I mean, there's a catch with that price, surely. But, no -- $69 --- AND he spends some time with you when you pick up to ensure that you can see the work that was done and to ensure that everything is set to your satisfaction. Oh, and I forgot to mention that he shared some great pre-purchase information with me regarding desktop computers (this, before I was even a customer) which ended up saving me $300 by explaining to me the differences between the computer I was going to be buying (HP i8 Core processor), and how the difference from the lesser priced computer (an Acer with an i7 Core processor) would more than meet my usage needs. And....I LOVE my new computer Acer computer that he strongly endorsed! My only regret is that I didn't find Linn and Kyle's Computer Repair sooner (did I mention that just two weeks earlier I had another repair guy work on my computer in Temecula (it had crashed), only to see it crash again a week later after picking it up??! I didn't think I would be able to get anything off of it but Linn was able to recover some of my more important files as well as put in another hard drive and reinstall windows for me.
