Blue skies smiling at me Nothing but blue skies do I see Blue birds singing a song Nothing but blue skies from now on -"Blue Skies" by Willie Nelson Amazing that KXT reached as far down the I-35 corridor as they did, but we enjoyed them as we're in Hillsboro and heading north toward the Dallas metroplex. It was refreshing to find a station that feels genuinely curated rather than run by some algorithm. An adult format that ranged from classics to newer tunes, which we enjoyed even if many of those new tunes were unfamiliar. For as long as we listened, no commercials and it was nice. And I see that they're "New, local and legendary music for North Texas. Commercial-free public radio." "I would Die 4 U" by Prince "Buddy Holly" by Weezer "Spooky" by Dusty Springfield "Constant Craving" by k.d. lang Fabulous tunes and if you're a grownup like me and you like good tunes, find them at 91.7. KXT 91.7 FM - KXT, Dallas TX - Radio Stations Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Independent listener powered, community organized, member supported radio. Want to hear the local music of the Metroplex? This place is a great station to get tuned in. They have a whole local program that cranks out the jams. There's no real commercials on this station, just public service announcements, and underwriting announcements. The DJs are fun, and not some corporate dudes in a booth, or some AI generated voice that pipes in endless chatter. Instead, you can get a finger on the pulse of the live music scene around, and they focus on bands who are coming through and playing at venues you can visit around town. The music is much more than just some top 40 hits station, or some corporate run Belo or Clear Channel Communications stationit has the local heart and soul of the city of Dallas. If you don't like the music, give it an hour or two, and they'll have something else on later. read more

Just discovered this station in Dallas! Love funky Fridays, and all my jams throughout the week. I don't listen to any other stations!

I have to agree with Annie's review. This station is a nice change from anything Dallas has had. I support any station that plays local music. Where was this station when the local scene needed it?! I've heard Lovie, Chomsky, The Deathray Davies. The O's even hosted an hour on air yesterday. They also play bands like Morrissey, Foo Fighters, Radio Head. This station is very indie, country-ish and alternative. It's a nice addition to the airwaves. I'll admit that I don't know half the music they are playing, and some of it's a little too soft for me, but that's just my personal tastes. I like to ROCK! Everyone should definitely check this station out and add it to you presets! read more

KXT 91.7 FM has only been on the air since Monday and I am already a HUGE fan. It is unlike any other radio station in Dallas. And by that I mean, they don't play the same ten songs over and over until you want to run your car into a wall...yeah, that's how I feel about radio in general. If you like a good mix of music and are open to new tunes, then this is totally for you. Where else can you listen to Roseanne Cash, Regina Spektor, Devendra Banhart, Dolly Parton, Adam Ant, Pink Martini, Velvet Underground, Bell X1, The Noisettes, Shuggie Otis, The Beatles, Midlake, Joss Stone and Death Cab for Cutie and local artists like Sarah Jaffe and RTB2 in the same hour? Thank you KERA KXT for renewing my faith in music on the radio! read more

KXT 91.7 FM - Dallas awesome music mix - Radio Stations Near Me - Dallas, Texas

It may not be perfect all the time-we all have our own musical tastes, but no other station gives me those euphoric musical moments as often as KXT. And like Laura R. said, my Shazam gets a workout all the time trying to figure out what they are playing. Plus, if Shazam can't decipher it, they'll tell you anyway in a minute. The morning and evening drive time shows are usually where I pop in...great stuff. read more

This is THE BEST RADIO STATION. Hands down. The variety of music, from alternative to classic to grunge to emerging bands is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Keep up the great work and my cash donation is on the way. You guys rock. read more

Close your eyes and design the "perfect" radio station in your mind. My must haves would be: 1. No commercials, and 86 the news talk too 2. Great Music 3. Music that is new to me 4. More great music - not the same playlist on repeat 5. Music I grew up with mixed with newer stuff 6. A station so good that people donate to keep it on the air Well that's KXT... I have been a proud member since 2012. I no longer live in DFW but I still enjoy them all day streaming on the interwebs. I really can't / won't listen to "regular" radio anymore. read more

BIG FAN of this radio station! I have been waiting for the most eclectic radio station to come to Dallas and it's finally arrived! I know it's public radio so you have to deal with pledge drives, but IT'S PUBLIC RADIO which means you hear music you would never hear on any station in the area (minus, maybe UNT's). I've heard a wide range from Tegan and Sara to Citizen Cope, to some true Spanish guitar to live, in-studio sessions with some amazing local bands. I will always be a member of this radio because if it were to go away I would have to go back to listening to only my iPod. :( read more

Wow! Year after year this radio station always seems to take it to the next level! If you'r in the Dallas area, or going to visit, check out their station! Bottom line: ~ Great tunes, with a mix from over generations! (Best of the Best!) ~ Not a great deal of talk! Heck, most folks get enough talk/chat everywhere they go! ~ Up to Date! They let you know of fun and great things going on in the area! Keep up the great work KXT! read more

I love you KERA! Thanks for making those years back in high school memorable. It seems like only yesterday when I was trying to decide where to volunteer in the DFW metroplex. It was a requirement for high school graduation and I needed something fast. I chose KERA mostly because of the location (not too far from the house) and didn't really think about the type of community I'd be stepping into. I am so glad I made the decision thanks to all the wonderful staff and volunteers I met! I highly recommend spending time to help out during a pledge drive or promotional event. I've always found KERA volunteers to be some of the nicest people I've ever met. There is never a dull moment during a pledge drive especially when you get the little kids calling in to ask what happened to Barney's time slot. Priceless. Did I mention that KERA also provided snacks for volunteers? I'm not sure if they still do this but they occasionally catered food from some pretty amazing places including La Madeleine! Oh yeah, they also had a popcorn machine that was always popping in the lounge! Yum. If you're lucky enough to volunteer during a live pledge drive please do it! I organized a volunteer session for one of my classes one weekend and we all enjoyed our visit. We got to talk to the featured artist who also gave away some of her in studio sketches. I still see footage on KERA from our visit and get all nostalgic just watching it. KERA you rock! Definitely a community worth checking out! read more

I don't know how I forgot to review 90.1! This will have to go in one of my lists... I became addicted to KERA about a year ago when I tuned in for the first time after getting really sick of the typical morning shows (and had to drive 45 minutes to and from work every day). Now I have a new job and drive less than 10 minutes per day, and I really miss knowing pertinent details about current events! (I also miss knowing random facts!) read more

I'd never heard of 91.7 until I saw reviews popping up here on Yelp. It's different and I like that. I can't stand hearing the same old crap everyday on the radio. I like everything from Mazzy Star to Metallica, so when I'm stuck in commuter traffic Hell I'm constantly changing the channels looking for something decent to listen to. KXT is a mixed bag. I like that they play stuff like Radio Head, Kings of Leon and Spoon. But when that obscure Dolly Parton song comes on after Karma Police, my radio ADD kicks in again and I'm reaching for the presets in search of something else. read more

LOVE. So excited that Dallas now has a public radio music station to match the awesomeness that is KERA. No other station in Dallas forces me to reach for my iPhone to Shazam virtually every other song that comes on... And I like that. read more

I love listening to Car Talk on Sunday afternoons and the BBC World Service during the week. Listening to BBC kinds helps me out with working on my British accent, haha. Cheerio! read more

I love NPR! I loved grabbing lunch for my pharmacy on Sundays because I was able to listen to Car Talk - I would time my lunch to match their program time. I also love the lady that answered food questions on the weekends although I have no idea when she comes on anymore. grrr! The channel can be a little left wing sometimes but I still love NPR because it's truly a breath of fresh air from the overplayed stuff on other channels. Give it a try when you're stuck driving for a few hours, it's better than listening to the same 5 songs over and over again. :) read more

When I was driving long distances for school, this was a lifeline. A great station for catching up on news and current events. Expand your mind, people! Car Talk is definitely a favorite although I rarely catch it now that I don't work weekends. read more

I LOVE IT!!! I just found it a couple weeks ago and had my world rocked. I am so glad that Dallas finally has something for us indie lovers! I have thought I was doomed to listen to CD's and my ipod since I moved here from Seattle, and am so relieved to find that is not the case, thanks to KXT =) read more

Fresh Air with Terry Gross. All Things Considered. Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. This American Life. Car Talk. I'm a member and donate every year. Only 1 in 10 listeners apparently do. Please support public radio. The world would be a worse place without it. read more

Years ago when NPR stopped playing music and went totally news, I thought I'd never hear good alternative, indie or local music on the radio again. Finally, about 3, maybe 4 years ago, KXT came along and wow! The only station you can hear Snow Patrol, The Orbans, Gary Clark Jr, Amos Lee, John HIatt, Grace Potter, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and many many more that are never heard on any of the other stations in Dallas. They played Avett Bros and Mumford and Son before they were cool. Thank goodness, I rarely hear pop music on this station. The old classics they play are not the same ol' music that get's played on classic radio, like Jimi and Janice. Justin who ?..... there is a God...... read more

Yep, this is a good station. I wonder why everyone on there talks in a soft monotone style though? The car show is hilarious, you can tell they have fun doing what they do. Making noises that match the callers exact description. I like the world news aspect of this station, getting views from different news organizations not affiliated with the US is a great opportunity not afforded on regular tv. The is the best station for unbiased news reporting! read more

I credit my regular helpings of NPR over the years for keeping the ol' dendrites in my noggin from suffering complete decay. After all, you can only listen to Cee Lo's "Eff you" so many times on the radio before you start losing brain cells. 90.1 is my go-to for weekday am listening. It's the home of excellent, balanced programming and is a great, dependable news source. Keep up the good work, KERA! read more

This station is only worth listening to on Sunday mornings. Amy Miller...Weekday mornings plays the same BS music everyday. The playlist seldom changes and the music is annoying after hearing the same playlist daily. Amy Miller needs to go away and let someone DJ that has a fresh playlist. read more

Amazingly diverse music!! It's like a random iPod shuffle of an avid music junkie, versed in it all. Indie, R&B, 80's, Blues, Reggae, Country...I mean everything. That. Is. Cool. ...and Gini Mascorro is one of THE coolest bitches on the planet! read more

So glad I came upon this station! I'm 49 years old and a lot of this music takes me back to my much younger days. Plus, GREAT diversity which is my penchant. It reminds me of when my friends and I used to take turns playing DJ with all those old LP's. Thanks to all who run this station and please don't go away! You're doing a fantastic job! read more

I love public radio, and stations that support local artists. This radio stations plays music from old country to hip hop and r&b, and it never gets dull. I love that it's not necessarily mainstream although you can hear some songs they play on 106.1, but not often. This radio station is #2 on my car radio button (90.1 is #1). Plus I can listen to this at work! Loving that. read more

My family took a lot of road trips growing up and I remember listening to Greater Tuna, Car Talk, and the like. NPR will always hold a place in my heart. I love how 90.1 doesn't feed me a left or right wing view. They report the news like it is and allow me to make my own decisions. Sometimes I wish my commute was longer just so I can listen to NPR longer than the 10 minutes it takes for me to get to work. read more

Holy Jesus!!!! Thank you, thank you who ever you are!! This is the best radio station in Dallas playing your favorite oldies, indie, alternative music!!!! Where have you been all my life!!! I am in love!!! I am so happy to have found you!!! Keep doing what you do!!!! read more

After 20+ years enjoying the greatness of the talented, fun and hugely underrrated 1310 the Ticket, I have now found myself over at 91.7 more often than not, especially weekends. KXT 91.7 | Independent Music Radio for North Texas If you want variety with new and local music of every genre, mixed in with everything that you can think of for the last 90 years, this is the place. This is not a station that plays the same fifty songs over and over or kills you with commercials. With something for everyone, if you do not like the song playing now, wait, the smooth transition to the next song with surprise and delight you. I have always been amazed by the number of new artists I have discovered on this station, that I continue to follow many years later. Favorite Show: 'The Paul Slavens Show' on Sunday night: 8-10pm You make suggestion on his blog and he puts the next show together based on those suggestions. Second Favorite Show: 'American Routes' out of New Orleans read more

I recently moved to Dallas from Austin via LA via Nashville, so I was a little disappointed to find out that a great city like the Big-D was lacking a great radio station outside of the Nickleback norm. Then came KXT, 91.7. Much like KGSR in Austin, KXT plays an eclectic mix of great music, so you are never stuck in the five-song playlist rut. Daughtry free from the beginning! Keep up the fantastic work KXT! You have earned a loyal listener!!! read more

Wow! This is the POS of NPR stations. It has the WORST local content. Yeah, I was ashamed of Dallas, too, but that's no reason for the local NPR station to take two hours in the middle of every day and play phone interviews with obscure authors shilling offbeat books ("Civil War Dentistry: A Toothsome Tale" - OK, I made that up). Where were local bureaucrats? Politicians? Business people? KCRW in Santa Monica, KUT in Austin, KQED in SF, WNYC in NYC, WLRN in Miami, and WAMU in DC are all WAY better, and have amazing local content. Yeah, NPR is terrific, but what is it about Dallas that keeps it from developing a self-conception? When I lived there, I listened to WAMU, WNYC, and KCRW, and I joined the latter over giving to KERA. In fact, at $240 / year, you're a "star" at KCRW, but if you want recognition at KERA? Better hand over $1,600. Apparently anything less in material-mad Dallas is barely worth recognition. BTW, WLRN in Miami far and away has the best local content I've heard on any public radio station. Go Phil! read more

NPR is awesome. I drive a lot for work and this is my go to station. Through the years I've learned so many interesting things about the world we live in by listening to this station. The arts, politics, culture, science and the daily news around the world. Some of my favorite articles through the years were the discussion about Coco Chanel and her Parisian flat. I went online at NPR to see actual photos of her apartment after returning home that day. Very cool. Another extremely interesting bit of information I learned listening to scientist on NPR is that our frontal lobe is not fully developed until our mid 20's. Yeah, you know, the part of our brain that differentiates us from other animals! That explains why I was never able to make sound decisions until my late 20's! (So don't get married until you're at least 30. I don't care how much you love him!) read more

Wait....you're still listening to inane chatter on that Top 40 station? Shameful! Get thee to 90.1 on the dial and tune into great interviews, stories, and news pieces that "really matter." And the best part is that it's funded by the public (read: people like me), so there is no kow-towing to ad sponsors. Oh, and when you tune in to listen, send them a check for $30 (or more) and help keep the dream alive. read more

Typically when I'm on the road I am relegated to providing y own music, listening to country (new and old school), Christian radio, or in some instances only Spanish language radio. Having forgotten my iPod was about to make for a sad trip to Dallas, or so I thought. In a desperate state I flipped through all of the stations, strangely I heard something familiar yet so foreign. It was suedehead, yes. Moz on the radio in Texas? Ok. I've had the dial tuned to kxt since I made that discovery somewhere on one of the many highways dedicated to the bushes and they haven't disappointed. The mix is so great I have a feeling you'll have a new long distance fan streaming you folks in RI read more

This is a great radio station. I listen to it 95% of the time (minus when I hear the same story twice or the mind numbing pledge drives). There is so much quality news and information you can gain from listening to NPR on KERA. The reporters all have their unique voices and styles and are usually very entertaining. All of the shows, national and local, keep you up to date and knowledgeable about your area and the world. With all the bubblegum brain-dulling music on the radio, it is so nice to be able to expand your mind while trapped in the car. Sure wish there was something they could do about the pledge drives that interrupt so much of the great programming, but they have to get the funding somehow. read more

A great asset to Dallas and I'm proud to say I'm a regular supporter. I used to listen to AM talk radio prior to 9/11 when it was not as extremely right wing - I used to love the Phil Hendrie show on KLIF. But then 9/11 happened and they started getting more and more obnoxiously conservative and pushy and I began looking at alternatives. One night my radio landed on 90.1 and it's become the only preset in my car and my alarm clock. I don't know how I could spend so many years without KERA. Radiolab and This American Life are some of the best shows in the planet, subscribe to the podcasts and you'll see what I mean. read more
