There are plenty of country stations across Texas, but this one seems to focus heavily on the bubble gum pop country stuff instead of the classic country. They play too much new stuff, and not enough Merle, Willie, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank... You know, the real country. If Achy Breaky Heart is country, I just wanna hang my head and cry. There's SO MANY commercials on this station. So Many. So Many Commercials. Blah blah blah blah. I'm gonna have some blue eyes cryin' in the rain if I have to hear another McDonald's jingle while waiting for a classic country song. This station is part of a mega conglomerate of radio stations called Cumulus Media.

Still, I occasionally tuned in - at that time Kellie Rasberry was out on extended maternity leave. Her daughter is now 7 & the great Dave Cradick aka Kidd Kraddick has sadly died. The last few years I've listened 5 days a week to the current lineup of Kellie, J-Si (Jose Chavez), Jenna Owens, the inimitable Big Al Mack & world's best board op Shanon Murphy. They have carried on since Kidd's been gone. AND they continue to do an entertaining show. Content is built around show biz news & family friendly phoners w/major stars. Lots of games for fans too. Their charity work with Kidd's Kids is exemplary. I am a former radio professional & entertainer. My radio listening started in the world's largest market, NYC. I know good radio. It was refreshing to find a station that feels genuinely curated rather than run by some algorithm. An adult format that ranged from classics to newer tunes, which we enjoyed even if many of those new tunes were unfamiliar. For as long as we listened, no commercials and it was nice. They have a whole local program that cranks out the jams. There's no real commercials on this station, just public service announcements, and underwriting announcements. The DJs are fun, and not some corporate dudes in a booth, or some AI generated voice that pipes in endless chatter. Instead, you can get a finger on the pulse of the live music scene around, and they focus on bands who are coming through and playing at venues you can visit around town. The music is much more than just some top 40 hits station, or some corporate run Belo or Clear Channel Communications stationit has the local heart and soul of the city of Dallas. If you don't like the music, give it an hour or two, and they'll have something else on later.

Anyway, when I was living in Dallas I signed up for the Dallas Morning News and had the worst experience- they charged me for a year and successfully delivered 2 total papers... bizarre. I've had no issues with the Star Telegram. It is always right where it belongs in the middle of my lawn when I wake up Sun & Wed. Also loving the PressPass. I almost mistakenly threw it away, but was excited to learn about the big fat list of restaurant, movie, and event discounts you get. You can't beat buying the Sunday comics and getting rodeo tickets and movie tickets for free.
