KNTU is a college radio station. This means many college students constantly press the wrong buttons resulting in technical difficulties. Many times complete silence, or at other times two or three audio tracks playing at the same time, and playback of songs ends abruptly and prematurely. They will always play every game occurring at UNT and Denton High School, and even other school districts. This makes no sense for an audio broadcast. Remember that the sportscasts are always priority for this college radio station. There are no commercials in this station. Worse: There are public service announcements and certainly a lot of them. The students also are given assignments to make their own promotionals for the block programmes they host. The commercials are filled with youthful arrogance and ignorance. Almost every hour there is "AP Radio News", as well as a audio simulcast of WFAA News once per night and frequent weather and traffic updates. What about the jazz they say they air? After all this I mentioned has aired, there is approximately 25 minutes per hour for Jazz. And of the jazz they air, they keep replaying the same few songs over and over again. I have listened for years and it is the same music. Occasionally they have other tracks which disappear after a few weeks. What remains is the campiest songs. They have North Texas Jukebox every sunday night for requests that aren't jazz. I have even heard them play a cheap ripoff version of "Lost Me Cookie At The Disco". There is Infrequent Exposure for young garage bands. They have And Seldom Is Heard playing 4 hours of classical music (if that guy would be quiet), Musical Starstreams, and several programmes from NPR & PRI, In Black America, and Stardate. They have McKinney In Focus, about the McKinney "Community". These blocks are (usually) fine, but they have "The Green Guys", and even worse, 6 hours devoted to you guessed it: Spanish. And to make matters worse, they canceled Global Mix so the only world culture anybody ever gets to enjoy is Spanish. The only music (and culture) more horrid than Spanish is Country Music. I hope they never launch a Country music programme. If they ever begin a programme for Country music on KNTU?! I Will Stop Listening To KNTU. After a while KNTU and the UNT students will have a campaign for five months asking for donations. i understand if you are commercial free. But I do not care for pledge campaigns and I see no reason why KNTU is forced to play public service announcements. When I thought of a Jazz radio station, I expected much more jazz, both in amount and variety of songs, and in increased airtime. Instead, KNTU is rampant with public service announcements, news, hours of sportscasts, and various technical difficulties. read more
