Blue skies smiling at me Nothing but blue skies do I see…read moreBlue birds singing a song Nothing but blue skies from now on -"Blue Skies" by Willie Nelson Amazing that KXT reached as far down the I-35 corridor as they did, but we enjoyed them as we're in Hillsboro and heading north toward the Dallas metroplex. It was refreshing to find a station that feels genuinely curated rather than run by some algorithm. An adult format that ranged from classics to newer tunes, which we enjoyed even if many of those new tunes were unfamiliar. For as long as we listened, no commercials and it was nice. And I see that they're "New, local and legendary music for North Texas. Commercial-free public radio." "I would Die 4 U" by Prince "Buddy Holly" by Weezer "Spooky" by Dusty Springfield "Constant Craving" by k.d. lang Fabulous tunes and if you're a grownup like me and you like good tunes, find them at 91.7. They have a whole local program that cranks out the jams. There's no real commercials on this station, just public service announcements, and underwriting announcements. The DJs are fun, and not some corporate dudes in a booth, or some AI generated voice that pipes in endless chatter. Instead, you can get a finger on the pulse of the live music scene around, and they focus on bands who are coming through and playing at venues you can visit around town. The music is much more than just some top 40 hits station, or some corporate run Belo or Clear Channel Communications stationit has the local heart and soul of the city of Dallas. If you don't like the music, give it an hour or two, and they'll have something else on later.

I've always enjoyed the show, live traffic updates and a dose of our daily news and weather. I never viewed it as a bias station as all seemed to be represented equally. You'd be surprised how many African American listeners the show has. However, lately when I tune in on my way home from work each day, it seems the Chad Benson show has turned into the "far right wing" show and "left wing bashing" show. He's mean, rude and somewhat hurtful in some of his views. I respect his views but I don't tune in to hear him call people on the left side of the aisle idiots (one of his favorite words it seems). It's offensive and unnecessary, in my humble opinion. By the time I get home, I'm frustrated and angry because this guy has absolutely no filter. His views are divisive. I don't care who you voted for, you don't have the right to force feed your opinions on others. In our current political climate, we need to be toning down the negative rhetoric rather than adding fuel to it. I don't want to leave the show but I feel like I have no choice. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one but just because you think it, doesn't mean you have to say it. It seems the wholesome values that use to be exhibited on this show have gone out the window and for me, that's really sad. I realize I'm just one person and it probably won't matter one iota what I say here, but if your listeners quit listening, KRLD will have a problem at some point.

But recently have noticed now that I hear more and more programming that seems divisive, with polarizing political views being expressed. I like to be informed but do not want to feel as if I'm being told how I should feel or see things politically. Chad Benson show isn't news just one sided commentary.. I can't even enjoy the basic local news during my lunch anymore. It's a shame... I still listen in the mornings, but even then I'm hearing evangelical and politically leaning advertisements that weren't there before.
