I replace the battery cuz how could it be the alternator when these lovely people just changed it. Didn't Fix it. Okay let's have the alternator tested I guess. It's fried. They put in an untested broken alternator. Okay fine I'll bring it back up. Brought it back to this shop, they tested it. It's the alternator. That's ask the guy says to my wife "yeah it's the alternator" then nothing for a minute. My wife asks "can you replace it?" Guy says "uh yeah we can" again quiet for a minute. My wife says "like for free?" Again just "sure" Sure. 3 days of Ubers to and from work adding up to about $300. No apologies. Nothing extra to save face. Nothing. Okay. Again. Says it will be ready in 4 days. 4 days later here I am picking it up. Yay! I rush over after work. My wife called ahead to make sure I could pick it up. The guy says he's going to leave the key In The van. She asks him to not do that, she's concerned about her car getting stolen. Fair. He said "oh don't worry I'll go ahead and keep it in the office!" I show up a few minutes before they close. The door is already locked. Okay I knock. I get greeted by a man saying "hello?" "Hi! I'm here to pick up the van out front!" He looks at me and grunts "the keys are on the floor inside" then closes the door. Nice. Real nice. Will not be coming back. Do not recommend. I'll take my business to someone who will do the job right and IF they make a mistake, will own up to that shit and apologize. Thanks. I'm a regular customer at Merlin. I used to get all my oil changes and car issues checked there…read more But every time I went, they'd hand me a huge list of repairs. For example, when my tail light was out, they charged me $35 just for installation--something I later learned to do myself in about two minutes. Then, I heard a sound from my tire, and they said it'd cost $600. When I hesitated, they warned me it was risky to drive, so I agreed. Later, I had an oil change--they charged me $80 for synthetic oil, which should last 6,000 miles. But at 2,500 miles, my engine oil light came on. I checked, and there was no oil. I had to get it redone elsewhere. Next, I had a catalytic converter issue. Merlin charged me $300 for installation after I bought the part myself. Later, I smelled smoke from my A/C vent. They told me it would go away after some miles, but it didn't. My engine light stayed on, and after about 7,000 miles, the car wouldn't accelerate. They said it was the catalytic converter again--$1,500. I had no choice, so I paid. They had already charged me $99 for the diagnostic. One week later, I heard another noise from the tire. I asked them to check, but they wanted another diagnostic fee. I reminded them I had just done one, but they insisted it was separate. I paid $99 again. Then they said it was the tire bearings--$600. I was suspicious, so I took my car elsewhere. Turns out it wasn't the bearings; it was brake pads. I've realized they exaggerate issues to charge more. I've wasted $3,000 in two years. If I'd gone to another mechanic first, I'd have avoided all this. I've seen other reviews saying the same. I don't recommend Merlin. If you have car issues, go somewhere else.

Merlin came in clutch (literally!). So after about 5 days, when they finally got the part, they stayed after hours to finish it up so we could pick it up the very same evening. I'm happy with the service. The part that shocks me the most was the $95 labor per hour.. I don't know what the usual rate for labor is but this seems very pricey. I wish i had done more researches before say yes to them once they gave me the price quote though.
