We usually go to Fresh Catch for our poke fix, which we love, but we stumbled across Kuono Marketplace and decided to check it out. It's Foodland's smaller sister store, and it turned out to be a great find! They carry the same great variety of poke you'd expect, and to me it tasted just as good as Fresh Catch while feeling more affordable. I loved getting to try all the samples, which made it really hard to choose. We ended up walking out with $80 worth of poke!! Every single one was delicious, but here are my favorites: Hot shoyu: A fun twist on the classic shoyu poke. So good. Spicy ahi: Creamy, spicy mayo blend that coats every piece. A must. Wasabi salmon: I really enjoyed this one. The salmon was rich and fatty, with just the right wasabi kick. Hawaiian style ahi: Simple and clean, letting the fish shine with sea salt and chili flakes. Service was nice, and they were generous with portions. Parking was great too, which is a win in Honolulu. If you're a poke lover, don't sleep on this place. The place to get things done... As many shopping area are being torn down only to go massively vertical I'm so thrilled that they didn't do that here knowing how dated it has become what they did is just phenomenal! It's almost incomprehensible of the previous structure to have it taken from us not knowing what was in the plans as I did visit it quite frequently and just having it was nice alternative to venture out at Kahala Mall. Considering the space they worked with I'm sure the traffic flow was the real challenge as sometimes it still confuses me so I just grab a stall when I do find one so that I'm not in a situation that forces me to exit the area which do happen quite frequently lol! As it slowly filled up from some vacant spots I do love the varieties they have to offer from snacks at Wholesale Unlimited, to eats at BBQ Chicken, J Dolan, and Daiichi Ramen, sips at Lanikai and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, or how about a Unicorn Butt Sneeze from Purvé Donut, get glamed at Drybar or Kahala Nails, gas filled, or need that Urgen Care...all done here! Welcome Capriotti's Sandwich Shop which just opened recently, and I do believe Yohei Sushi will be joining us this winter...and you think this is awesome you'll see a few water features that are simply soothing and beautiful there's a plaque which explains some history of the Wai'alae area that I have no idea and is a great humbling fact. I guess like most folks in Honolulu, when shopping in the Kahala area, the tendency is to gravitate to Kahala Mall. But lately, I've been visiting Kuono Marketplace. A low tise strip mall that has Kahala Mkt. by Foodland for groceries and numerous eateries, from J. Dolans to Daiichi Ramen. Shell gas station and Straub clinic are at opposite ends of Kuono. I have only been to BBQ Chicken, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Kahala Mkt, and Great Clips. A nice selection of local businesses and corporate chains. Parking lot could've been better planned and it is always full but there are entrances and exits on the Waialae Avenue and Hunakai Street sides. Stall width allows for bigger vehicles. read more

Shopping and dining in Kahala, Honolulu, Hawaii... Ku'ono Marketplace is a relatively new strip mall across from Kahala Mall on Waialae Avenue. Currently, the anchors are J. Dolan (known for their pizza) and Straub Clinic. In-between, the largest business is KAHALA MKT. by Foodland. It's an upscale grocery store and houses the restaurant "et al.". I've been to bb.q Chicken, Purve Donuts, KAHALA MKT, J. Dolan's, et al., and DryBar. I want to visit Wholesale Unlimited Express and look forward to the second location of Yohei Sushi. I appreciate the free shared parking and have to learn to follow the traffic pattern. I went around the Shell Gas Station and couldn't make a left turn back to the shops... Haha! We came to Kuono Marketplace yesterday for a drink at Lanikai Juice. This is such a cute little marketplace located across of Kahala mall. Some stores we seen were: J Dolan, wholesale unlimited, foodland, purve donuts, daichi and more. After getting a drink at Lanikai juice we took a little walk in the shopping center to check out the different stores. Lots of parking available. read more

Breakfast at et al. is what brought me and the spouse to this tiny, new strip mall in the Kahala area. ATMOSPHERE: The single level, outdoor mall is a bustling beehive as it looked like the majority of the spaces were occupied. Parking is free and adequate with quick access to the freeway above and Kahala Mall across the street. Ku'ono Marketplace is a the newest shopping complex to open up in East Honolulu. Located in Kahala on Waialae Avenue and across of the long standing Kahala Mall. There are a mix of businesses that are open already or in the process of opening with signage outside showing what's to come. The mix of a Market (Kahala Mkt), Eateries (Et al Restaurant, Daiichi Ramen and a Cafe coming soon). Other places that have opened, Kahala Drybar, Engel and Volkers, Lanikai Juice, Kahala Nail and Straub Clinic. Soon to open are places that I personally am excited to see shortly are Purve Donut, Wholesale Unlimited and Beerlab. There is also going have businesses like Great Clips to get a haircut, Territorial Savings Bank and a Service Station to fill up your ride. Kuono Marketplace.. such a gem of a shopping Center. Decided to checkout this small, but filled with small shops shopping center. I was impressed with all the small shops with plenty of attitude. Lots of parking across from street from Kahala Mall. I've seen this shopping center many times, but never had the time to stop. There are so many shops to visit with all types of venues. Far corner is J. Dolan's popular for its build-your-own pizza options, Purvé Donut Known for their creative flavors, Kahala MKT. by Foodland with creative grab-and-go cuisine, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf my favorite tea place, drybar... get $10 off your first blowout just for signing up!, Daiichi Ramen best Japanese Ramen in all of Hawaii, Lanikai Juice serving healthy and fresh smoothies and Wholesale Unlimited Express the destination for your favorite local snacks are just a few shops you'll find in this cute shopping center. Tried Kuono Marketplace and enjoyed the Turkey sandwich and the pastrami sandwich, The gravy was like soup do thin. The French Fries was sooo thin like they squeezed out alll the goodness, different but not my favorite. Would try the sandwiches again, and look forward to trying the waygu steak but the gravy and fries need help , and what happened with the mashed potatoes (?) they just opened and the don't serve it anymore (???!!) wass up with dat ??? read more

Very neat marketplace across from Kahala Mall. Still has about 1/3 of the spaces empty probably because of covid, but I'm looking forward to watching the marketplace fill up. The Foodland space is great and I plan to try the ramen spot next. There seems to be a good amount of empty parking spaces, and the gas station just recently opened up. Worth a visit if you haven't seen it yet. read more

Kuono Marketplace at Kahala opened its doors in November 2020, after nearly 2 years of construction and an idea to transform a former strip mall across Kahala Mall into a premiere shopping destination. It's about time really. I've spent majority of late 2019 and all of 2020 on the island due to COVID-19 and got to see the construction daily while shopping and being in the area. The result of the project is visually stunning and a place where you can bring your family here. The only thing that's limiting to the shopping outlet is that there is only one story that's limited to street level. There's no secondary level to include more merchants to make it a thriving hub of commercial activity. The marketplace is anchored by Kahala Market by Foodland and Hawaii Pacific Health (Urgent Care). It's generous parking options are sure to attract a crowd to the former strip mall and gasoline station that used to be there. The physical aesthetics attract people to this place and it's a nice destination for shopping and dining, although there's not much choices when it comes to dining. That's another limiting factor to Kuono Marketplace, but hopefully they can add more exciting merchants that can bring out the best in the shopping mall and the area it serves. If you are in the area, come on by and check things out. It's not really an alternative to Kahala Mall, but you can say it's like an extension of the mall, just across the street. The overall experience here at Kuono Marketplace at Kahala was pretty good. The first store I went into was the Foodland Farms. It was neat to see everything all brand spanking new. The buzz was real amongst the people that were there. For the most part though, the experience here is a good one. It's nice to see new developments within my own neighborhood, when Kaimuki and Kahala seem to not really see (major) change with the times over the years - at least in my lifetime. I enjoyed myself at the Foodland and the smaller shops are a nice addition here, although seeing a real estate shop is interesting to add to the mix. It is interesting to note that Lahaina Juice added its second location at Kuono Marketplace, even when their original Kahala location was just a block away. Not sure if they were moving or not. The marketplace is a refreshing idea that came to fruition in the late 2010's and ready to roll in late 2020 due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The Kuono Marketplace is located physically at 4210 Waialae Avenue in the heart of Kahala and literally across the street from Kahala Mall on the Waialae Avenue side. Most if not all merchants here accept major credit cards, as well as cash. In the era of COVID-19, face masks are required on property and in the individual shops. As far as parking goes, there is a generous amount of parking here for y'all who drive. Best bet would be to come here during non peak hours to get the best possible spot. If you are like me, bus routes 1, 1L, 14, 22, 23, and 24 come thru the area and stops at various locations around the Kahala Mall area. The Kuono Marketplace opened its doors to the public around the week of November 16, 2020. I'm sure as the months to come, they will add more exciting tenants to their property. It should be an exciting time to come to the Kuono Marketplace at Kahala, when Kahala Mall just won't do anymore. Only thing about Kuono Marketplace is that it's a strip mall. It's not an indoor mall with central air conditioning. Still it's a nice beginning for an area that was starving for a makeover. If you are in the area and want to check it out, you should. Update to my earlier review (4-Stars) I previously had concerns about how the newly added gas station could adversely affect available parking at the marketplace for other customers. I'm happy to report with this update that the gas station has not taken away parking stalls but instead has actually added more stalls to the marketplace. I continue to enjoy patronizing the existing businesses and look forward to when a few more eating places on the Ewa side open. In my opinion, the marketplace is definitely a pleasant addition to the neighborhood. Give it a try. read more

Poor management by MMI Realty and KSBE. They claim that they want to be good neighbors; unfortunately, the noise issues on the backside of Kuono Marketplace, on Keanu Street, is where I've lived, on and off, for more than 50 years. The issue has been discussed, ad nauseam, at Neighborhood Board Meetings, with no solution. I've brought this issue up as far as The Mayor's office. I'm just one voice, but I refuse to struggle with no hope. read more

Nice place to shop and eat but forget going early. Outside chairs are chained up until 9-9:30 am on weekdays later on Sunday! Really! Coffee and food places are open earlier. read more
