Dishonest, inept, overcharging, superior attitude, and working on improving their image by begging for good reviews. Stay away.

I recently had a very frustrating experience at Hyundai of Sycamore while used car shopping…read more First of all I am a 65 year old female and have a lot of experience purchasing cars on my own over the years. To say this was my worst experience ever is not even a slight exaggeration. I found a used vehicle online through Capital One Auto that I inquired about and was then in touch with Cheriee the sales manager. I dealt with a different salesperson after I arrived but I am not going to mention him by name because I truly feel that he is being groomed and he has to do what he has told by the higher-ups. I went in that morning to look at the vehicle before work. The price was $13,500. I asked what was included in the price and I was told the powertrain warranty plus another warranty which unfortunately I don't remember what they called it. I called later to speak to the salesperson I had dealt with confirm that I was on my way back for a test drive after work later that day and spoke to my salesperson. After I arrived I was told two things. One was that there was another person there looking at the same vehicle. This made me feel like there was pressure to the sale that I would rather have not had to deal with. Additionally I was informed that when they brought the vehicle from another location that they had missed tagged the price and it was actually $18,500! I was assured don't worry we will work this out and keep you within your budget. When I return from my test drive the other buyer was still there but she soon got up swearing and stormed out of the building. I assumed it had something to do with two of us looking at the car at the same time. After deciding I wanted to purchase this car my salesperson was back and forth several times with the finance manager. First of all I hate this type of sales tactic. You get little bits of information and then they take information back and forth between the two of you which causes confusion and more pressure. In the end this $13,500 totaled up to over 23,000! Not only did they refuse to negotiate the price at all after their mistake but both warranties that I was told about when I asked what was included we're not actually included in the price but were extra for a total of $5,000. Additionally they added $1,600 for Gap coverage and insisted that it was mandatory with the finance company. I later found out that that is absolutely not true and was of course much cheaper through my own insurance company if I opted to get it. Needless to say my payments at $880 a month would have been over three times my budget which I disclosed not only to Cheriee when we spoke earlier in the day but also to my sales manager/finance. The high pressure sales, misleading information let alone bait and switch tactics were unbelievable. Fortunate for them I didn't leave swearing like the other buyer did, mostly because I was in shock but also because I will not create a public scene. However even after allowing myself to think about this for a few days I am appalled at the treatment and service I received. I highly recommend you avoid purchasing a car here unless you are ready to aggressively deal with these types of !

To start off, I found a decent looking, affordable car on Carfax. So, as a normal person would,…read moreafter looking to check mileage, year, etc. I looked at the pictures to see if there was any noticeable damage or warning lights in the interior and on the dashboard. It appeared to be in decent condition, so I proceeded to message the dealership. They were polite and kind, I will give them that. They were very persistent about making an appointment to see said vehicle, so I asked if I could take it to a mechanic, which they assured me I could, but the car is being sold as-is and will likely need repairs, which I was prepared for given the price and age of the vehicle. I went forward and scheduled the appointment and called my mechanic to let him know when I was coming in, expecting the appointment to be no more than 20 minutes. Upon my arrival, a woman started making small talk with me as one does and I made her aware of the situation. I then had to fill out paperwork, which is a given, but then she proceeded to say that she needed the porter to put on the temp plates. Given that I had made the appointment ahead of time, you would have assumed that would already be done. We waited for 15 minutes, and the lady even went outside I guess to see what was going on. I myself could have put a plate on in 3 minutes max so I do not really know why we waited so long. At one point I had to call my mechanic to tell him I would be running late due to this. She then pulls up the car and looks visibly nervous when she approaches us. She tells us that the car is as-is and has a check engine light on. I then approached the vehicle and realized it was being held together by screws and caulk and the front seat had a giant tear in it. I had apparently wrongfully assumed they would be trustworthy and not be using pictures of a different vehicle that was not the one they were selling. Not to mention I had obviously made it known I was picking up this car, yet it had no gas in it whatsoever so I would not have even made it to the mechanic without stopping (just a short 4-mile drive away). The lady seemed unsure as to if the car would even make it to the mechanic as-is and so she just wanted me to drive it around the lot first. At that point I decided against it. To top it all off, she tried to show us other cars and even speak with her manager after that even though we repeatedly told her we were on a time crunch, since we had other places to be. To conclude, that was a waste of my time.

We had contacted no less than 7 Mercedes-Benz dealers to find a car that we liked. Some had a car we were interested in and some offered to order a 2017 or in one case one was able to do a dealer-trade on a 2016. This particular car at Brian Bemis was a service loaner with 777 miles on it. Michelle, the sales manager, was always easy to get ahold of either via email or voice. She even gave her cell number and told us to text or call her on the morning of Memorial Day if we were unable to make it to pick up the car. We showed up for the delivery and it went very smoothly. Our initial product specialist was unable to make it due to a military commitment on Memorial Day, so Terry was the product specialist who we dealt with on delivery day. He was also a pleasure to deal with. The dealership offered the typical "glossy clear coat", "glass protection package", "extended warranty protection", and all of the other high profit margin add-ons, which I declined. They never tried to pressure us into these after I simply stated that we were not interested. Having done our homework on financing, I knew that the lowest rate available anywhere was my Company's credit union. Lee, the finance manager, was able to magically beat that rate by 0.1%. The other nice thing is that we saved a bundle in taxes by purchasing at Brian Bemis over purchasing at many of the other Chicago-area dealers because of Sycamore's lower taxes. Your mileage may vary, but 5 stars in our personal experience with everyone at Brian Bemis. Everything was just real easy.

But I was told the day before pick it up, "It has 1800 miles on it" this didn't concern me much. The day I pick the car up. It being a keyless ignition car the first warning the car gave me was "key battery low" I told the sales manager and the sales man this and they told me how easy was to replace the batteries in the key fob. Another salesman tried to say it was because I had both keys with me. I replaced the batteries my self at home. I parked the car and my wife and I went on a trip for a week. When we returned she was excited for her first ride in our new Mercedes. When I started the car it indicated that the car was 21 days passed service A. Thats not the exact wording but it was sold to me needing the first service. I called the dealership and ask about this and was told they would look into this. After two days and two calls to different people I called Mercedes USA. They were very helpful but also informed me the warranty period for this car started in February of 2013. Basically I lost a year and a half of the new car warranty. This is very strange because the service is calculated on time and not mileage. So why did the service indicator wait a year and a half to count 365 days. And also this was sold as a new car with a certificate of origin. I have received no answers to these questions from either the Brian Bemis dealership or Mercedes USA. I fortunately purchased an extended warranty but am not impressed with Mercedes at all. As far as the dealership I don't know if they are dishonest or just incompetent.
