If you asked me about this store a few weeks ago, I'd have drawn a blank and said, "I don't know." But ever since my brother announced his upcoming wedding, I've done nothing but learn about several Indian shopping options in the Bay Area. I began my search on Google for some traditional wedding/religious furniture and paraphernalia. Some links proved to be useful, some not so much and some proved to be online vendors that mislead you! Then I sent an 'S-O-S' group email to all the Indians I know. Lo and Behold, I was told to drive up and down El Camino Real between Mtn View and San Jose for things on my list. Of course, while it was simple to do so, I didn't quite find the things I wanted. So, I stopped and asked the family that runs 'Komala Vilas' in Sunnyvale. God bless them, for they pointed me to Kumud Electronics..........and magically, I found almost everything I need to set up and decorate the wedding stage. I found the traditional Chowkis (these are lil stools on which one either places the god's idol, or those offering prayers too sit on), I found the 'kalash' (a small pot that is essential to any ritual), I found string flowers, and so many more puja essentials. Of course, the store is a bit pricey, quite a bit pricey, but if you get what you want.....you forget the price tag and walk away feeling happy. ZERO stars. I had a very similar experience to the person who said that the owner said the base was broken and hence un-repairable ! I took my Preeti mixie in for repair to replace a broken coupler last week. He initially - HONESTLY - told me it would take a few minutes to repair and would cost me $15. I stepped out for a minute and when I returned, he claimed that actually it would take him THREE DAYS TO REPLACE THE COUPLER and cost me $45 !! Then when I agreed to this nonsense (I really needed a mixie), he pointed to a crack at the very bottom of the mixie and claimed that he could not guarantee that the mixie would not break while he was replacing the coupler. Get this -- he claimed that my mixie might break due to a small crack near the base of the unit while he changed the coupler. TOTAL RUBBISH. I wonder if this is a trick he routinely uses -either threatening to break stuff or actually breaking stuff brought in for repair, so that we would be forced to buy a new one from him ! All this guy had to do was the unscrew the coupler and replace it with a new one ... he didn't have to open the mixie blah blah blah as he claimed. I feel CHEATED and made a fool of. His initial estimate that it would take a few minutes and $15 to fix was right. DO NOT USE THIS GUY FOR REPAIRS -- he is not honest or truthful. I am not sure where all the positive repairs are coming from, but this place ripped me off (he sold me a brand new mixie for $90 because I was dumb enough to not do my own research BEFORE I went to his store and he wanted to make a steep profit). read more

This is a small shop which has small appliances like Indian made mixers, cookers etc. I bought a mixer recently and had to return it because there were lot of scratches inside the bowls. Looks like, it a used and returned one and the make of that model was poor too. The next day, I took it back and bought a different model of around 30 $ cheaper. The owner did not refund the $30 and instead gave me store credit. I was not interested in any of the stuff in that small shop and told him about it, but he refused to return the money as it was his policy. So I looked around in his shop and found ikea goods bought for 10$ , but selling at $30. I didn't want that junk anyway. Te model that he sold was around $163 and I found the same models in amazon at $125 with free shipping. In fact, all the models are available at amazon at lower rates. Go figure. Owner buys stuffs from IKEA , Walmart etc and sell it with 100% profit . Please check online before buying anything from here . There is no return policy here . You will get very irresponsible answer from the owner -- when you go back with purchased goods that does not function as expected . I will be give zero star for this shop . The owner of Kumud electronics has done a great job helping me fix a few different electronic devices I own. I wish I could give no star rating. Very unprofessional store and store keeper. Took my "broken" Mixer grinder to him. I explained the problem and he said "I will replace the switch". On asking charges he said "40$ for repair and 25$ for part". I asked is he sure it is the switch which is causing trouble. He said " How can i be sure", I asked him "will you test after changing switch that problem doesn't reoccur". He said "How can I do that?". Forget being sure about the problem, he didn't even know what was broken. Mixer Grinders he sells at 16%$ are available at 100$ to 125$ on amazon. Yes "Indian" mixer grinders can be bought on amazon. I could sense that guy was a cheat from his mannerisms, and my hunch turned out to be true. Couple of other friends of mine had similar bad experiences. read more

This place is run by a Gujju(Gujarati) crook. Other day, I took my grinder for repairs and he told something could be wrong with the belt and he refused to open the grinder in front of me and told me to come back later. Within two minutes, he called and told the base is broken. It would cost me $90 and there was no wrong with the base and I opened it couple of times myself. He deliberately broke using a screw driver or something. I could not believe it when he showed that to me. I had to spent $90($50 broken part that he broke and $40 for the labor charge) for to fix. Anyone who takes it for repair, please make sure this does not happen to you. read more
