I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Kulana Malama for providing such a wonderful place for my special needs son. He truly enjoyed the care and companionship of the staff, as well as being surrounded by other children. I highly recommend this facility to any family with children who have special needs. Kulana Malama is the only place on the island that offers respiratory services, which was invaluable for us. My 18month old grandson is currently here for two weeks of respite care. I come every day, and I stay with him for 8 to 10 hours. He benefits from having his grandma nearby my most amazing observation has been how quickly every staff member has welcomed him and attended to his special needs- and they are numerous. I will start by addressing the nurses and nursing assistants. It is amazing to see everyone working as a team! I have never heard the expression "oh he is not my resident today. I will get HIS nursing assistant". If the Nurses air STNA's see a need, they stop and address it! The Dr's are EXPERIENCED, pro-active, gentle, and care deeply for the children they serve. The activities department is loving, kind, and quite entertaining! I have seen them engage every single child, even when it may seem that it would not make a difference- they still give 100%! The social worker stops by regularly to check to see if there are any concerns, needs, or observations. All I can say is, thank you! The respiratory therapist treat our little one like their own precious little guy! The same with PT and OT! Housekeeping is hands-down the best I have ever seen in any facility. The cleaning is continuous, there is no odor or unsightly concerns. Everything is gleaming. This may seem like an "exceptional review", but it is deserved! I am a registered nurse, and I have seen many concerning things throughout the years. It is for this reason that I came from Ohio to stay with my grandson. Wonderful Care Home for the medically fragile, so grateful for the wonderful atmosphere and support from the community here

Went there for a 3 week respite and enjoyed every moment of it. Everyone there is very friendly and showed that they cared for my well being. Got to meet new people that I now call my friends. Felt very safe and secure that I was receiving all the necessary care that I needed. We laughed and had a great time from sunrise to sunset so there was never a dull moment. Had my first experience here for my clinical rotation, and I feel in love with this place! The environment and the staff are really nice and friendly. This place made me feel like in mini Disneyland setting. Each corner had a theme of where the children can feel like home. I know that if your in the nursing program, they accept all the schools to have a chance to get an wonderful experience. Me & my classmates were able to volunteer our first day for 12 hours and learned so many things throughout the day. The RN makes you have an opportunity to have a lot of hand on skills :) read more

Great home for sick children, my son is cutrently here and the staff is d best om island! Love u DJ!...

Please do not be fooled. My brother who had cerebral palsy went into a coma when he was placed here. He had just gotten out of the hospital and we were forced to put him in a "care home" because he got a trachea. The night he went into a coma he first had a very high temperature and his nurse paid no attention. No medication was given and later he went into a severe seizure that put him in a coma. Getting that call that he wasn't gonna make it was the worst feeling I could ever feel for my brother. I fought and fought to keep him alive. Until this day since his passing 3 year ago, we do not know why he had such a high fever and why he was neglected. Please do not be fooled with how "beautiful and lovely" this place looks. read more

My nephew is here and while it's nice I e-mailed them to ask them what their policy was on nurses lying to get out of work and it's been two days--no response!!! I guess it doesn't really matter since the staff is overall pretty nice but when I go visit my nephew and hes sad because his fave nurse called out sick then I see her knocking back beers at a bar when she should be workign, I get concerned what kind of people theyre hiring!!! It would be nice to get some kind of response back even if they don't act on it!!! Honesty and responsibility my butt!!! read more
