We proceeded with a PRP injection, which I learned that there was actual homework/prep work for me to do BEFORE the treatment that the hip MD didn't even tell me about! Such things like stopping NSAIDs, drinking, fasting, etc. to help make the PRP injection more successful. I would not have known this if it weren't for Dr. Ferrante. The injection went smoothly and I experienced significant pain relief. I will return to do the other hip now that I know how successful it is. I know PRP injections are expensive, but definitely worth the price (insurance doesn't pay for them thru a MD anyways). She made me feel comfortable (as comfortable as you can- these injections are sore) thru out the procedure, and increased my trust by providing me with a lot of information about what to expect before/during/after, and of course following up. Of note, when I came in for a hip follow up, she noticed I had a wrist brace on, and took initiative to inquire about this new injury and brainstormed a special taping to help offload/support the area (again, something that the orthopedic PA didn't think about) which also provided more stability/less pain for my wrist. She offered another treatment option for it if occupational therapy didn't help. I was unable to eat and I could only have liquid foods. My physician prescribed medicine for me but I needed something to treat the pain. That afternoon, I called Urgent Care but I had no luck with getting an appointment. The next available appointment would have been in one month. The very next day, I called Dr. Matsunaga's office and I was so happy that I got an appointment. Dr. Janice Matsunaga is located at Queens, POB II on the 5th floor. Her office is clean, organized and I love the decor and check-in window. The receptionist and nurse were so friendly. When I checked in, I gave my insurance and ID info. I also filled out the initial visit forms and was called in right away. I will never forget my first visit! The fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the office until it was safe to return. Dr. Janice Matsunaga is petite, kind, and professional as she has been in her profession for over 40 years. She listened to my health concerns and she gave me a diagnosis. The way I got the bacteria was clear to me. All this time, I thought the hot pot that I ate caused the problem and that I had a food allergy. During that same week, I had to cover the school office and as Dr. Matsunaga mentioned I got the bacteria from kids and eating the hot pot triggered the bacteria infection. It all made sense to me. Dr. Matsunaga prescribed 2 very powerful ointment and I even went back for a follow up appointment. She was so positive which made me not worry as much. Doctors like that are hard to come by nowadays. In fact, I decided to leave my last PCP when she stated her preference for two patient visits per year and the use of urgent care and the ER. She was candid about HMSA's reimbursement switch to a capitation plan as the basis for her preference. I empathize as I think this new payment system is detrimental for the patient too. So that wasn't going to work for me so I found paying the MDVIP fee a good investment. Dr Okimura has in-depth knowledge of my health issues and she is sincerely invested in finding solutions and helping me to be the best me. She is incredibly empathetic, timely responses to calls and emails and comes with well rounded knowledge. I really appreciate that she respects that I know my body and always takes my input into consideration. I highly recommend Dr Okimura!

I had an unfortunate accident while changing my clothes after a workout. This happened back in February 2024. My middle earring piercing on my right ear has always been low. It's something that I'd actually been meaning to have fixed one day. Unfortunately, because the piercing sat so low on my earlobe, the threshold for an earring to tear through was small. It finally happened, so I was researching where to get it fixed. I didn't want to go to an ER or urgent care, and I'm not sure they would have been willing to fix it since technically it's a cosmetic procedure. Insurance wise, it's not considered medically necessary to have fixed--especially since it had stopped bleeding fairly quickly. I also didn't want a rushed job. I called around to a few plastic surgeon offices, but they were all booked weeks out or required a consult (not free) before scheduling a separate procedure. I wanted this fixed asap, as I didn't want the tear to heal incorrectly. Thankfully I found Golden Dermatology on yelp, sent an email with a photo of my ear, and they were able to schedule me the next day! Getting a next day appointment with any physician is pretty miraculous. They gave a flat rate of $500 for the earlobe repair, which was a fair price based on my google research. It seems steep, initially, for an hour of work. In hindsight, for the amount of staff that assisted from start to finish, the surgical materials, lidocaine, and overall expertise, it is a fair price. I appreciate that they gave a flat price right off the bat, instead of having to come in for a consult unsure of what the price would be, then having to schedule a separate procedure. Some offices charge $150 just to consult for what is technically a cosmetic procedure (I was told they do normally charge for consult for things like Botox/fillers). I filled out my paperwork beforehand and emailed it back. Wait time was just a few minutes before being seen. I was consented, and they performed the procedure right away. I got lidocaine injections given by who I assume was a nurse? There were quite a few people helping. Dr. Rhoutt performed the procedure, with the assistance of other staff and a medical student. I thought Dr. Rhoutt did really well with my procedure. The only part I could really feel were the lidocaine injections, and even then, it just felt like two light pinches. After the first two shots, my ear went numb, and I never felt anything after. You can feel the pressure, but no pain. They had to cut away dead tissue, cauterize (burn) the skin, then suture it together. I felt like the sutures were very well done. Fast forward to now (accident happened Feb 2024). I waited several months (per their instruction) before I repierced my ear. There is no visible scarring from the sutures. Very glad I came here to get my earlobe repaired!
