3.5 stars. Kuhn's Market is a local grocery-store chain that currently has several locations in the Pittsburgh area. Kuhn's is organized similarly to other grocery stores. It contains departments for fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, seafoods, snacks, canned and boxed foods, frozen foods, beverages, dairy and eggs, household essentials, etcetera. Most foods are conventional, and not many are organic. I think that the prices are comparable to what other grocery stores charge. Kuhn's also sells postage stamps, money orders, lottery tickets, bus passes, cigarettes, etcetera. For over a decade, I have been a customer of this Kuhn's location off and on. For my most recent visit, my husband and I did our regularly weekly grocery shopping. The shelves, freezers, refrigerators, and racks were fully stocked and organized. No employees greeted us as we walked around, but the cashier and bagger spoke nicely with us. Unfortunately, after they scanned and bagged all of our items, their payment software rebooted, and we had to wait several minutes to pay. My husband called the employees "amateur" for not rebooting the software before the store opened. When I got home, I noticed that a package of English muffins that was supposed to contain 6 muffins actually contained only 5 muffins. I am not sure if the food manufacturer did not pack the sixth muffin or if someone in the store stole it. read more

The fresh hot deli is good. But what really stands out, are all the fresh prepared foods in the deli case. I am very picky about coleslaw - this deli has the best in Pittsburgh. Ditto for their fresh made chicken salad and tuna salad. A display case inside the door offers great fresh subs of all sorts (at the best price), decent sushi (made in Pittsburgh), deserts. So this is a good dash and go store. The regular groceries are no bargain, except sale items. read more

I come here often for a few things , it's never crowded, the meat selection is great here and they have many products to choose from the shelf. My only complaint is that it seems dim and ghostly in there , but not a bad shopping place for weekly food! Best place next to aldis in my opinion read more

I have noticed that when Kuhn's has something on sale, that item is NEVER in the store and they won't give a rain check on a sale item. For years I have kept a notebook of the sale items and whether they have it and 905 of the time they do not. The excuse is the truck did not bring it. I should have put this review out when it happened but I wasn't thinking of yelp at the time. This Kuhns like many others has that Kuhns smell, like rotten meat and garbage. Beyond that though they racially profile black shoppers. A family member of mine was stopped by security and accused of stealing from this store after using self-checkout. He asked them to view the camera footage where he'd stolen something or acted suspicious and they refused. They also refused to call the police as HE requested. They let him go because they were lying and had no reason to suspect him of stealing. I know you're thinking that he made this up but guess what the store manager ended up sending him a gift card for his inconvenience. I told him to sue but he chose to just let it go. If you're a minority this should be your last choice for shopping. You may be accosted for simply walking through and BUYING your merchandise. read more

I stopped here yesterday on my way back from doing some other errands in the vicinity. i went to pick up a few items. The store in general was fine, It had everything I was looking for. I found the prices on a lot of items to be much higher than Giant Eagle. The one nice thing is this was the first supermarket that had Boars Head meats. Been a Kuhns' shopper for a few years. I'd say avid....Most recently, upon checkout one day I had an order of $90 + , many items on sale, but because I forgot my loyalty card I was advised I wasn't entitled to the sale prices. I paid for the order, and left. Without tax, I would have saved over $27. Thats SUBSTANTIAL in my book; equal to a full tank of gas for me, on a very limited food budget. I found another grocery store chain for my "shopping" needs and only run into Kuhns', that's 1.5 miles from my home, for the emergency purchase of milk or dishwasher tabs. Just little things. Competition is great these days with covid limiting EVERYTHING, so to lose business over a forgotten card, to me is ridiculous. To turn away any good customer for being forgetful is insulting. I was once a loyal Kuhn's customer. I will never shop there again after what happened to me this Labor Day I bought a family pack of steaks, grilled them, only to realize later that they had spoiled in their packaging. I assume that someone else picked them up to buy, changed their mind, left them out of the cold section for too long, and they got put back where they were. I wasn't told until after I cooked them that they looked a little brown in their packaging. They should've been completely pink and white. Once something spoils, it really needs pulled off the shelf. I was the sucker that payed over twenty something dollars for expired steaks. Very upset with Kuhn's. They used to have a very nice deli. read more

I have been a loyal Kuhn's customer for over 10 years, but things are changing. I am so disappointed by their lack of concern regarding an issue I recently had with the meat department. I thought the manager would be as upset as I was regarding the situation. Sadly, I was mistaken. They would not do anything to right this wrong situation. Chicken thighs were on sale, so I bought a 4-5 pound package for $4.59. When I went to use the thighs, I was shocked to learn that it contained three thighs and three BACKS. Yes, backs with the chicken butts still attached. Clearly, the sign should have read, "Chicken thighs/backs for 99 cents per pound," but it did not. Who wants chicken backs???? No one that I know-especially when they have very little meat on them. I basically paid for three chicken spines instead of chicken thighs. Of course, this package was useless for my recipe, so I thought I could get my money back to purchase what I really needed from another store. A store that would not misrepresent what is in their meat packages. Yesterday, I took my receipt to the store to explain the situation. If I was a manager, I would want to know that the store butchers are putting backs where thighs should be. I assumed the manager would appreciate the information and reprimand the butcher who did this. Instead, they tried to ignore me and my husband. They would not give a refund and I doubt they will even speak to their butchers. They did not care. I am so shocked that no one was willing to compensate me for the deception. The girl behind the desk would not even look at my receipt. She had no interest whatsoever in what I was telling her. Finally, she said she would speak to someone. I do not believe her. Shame on her (the manager), the meat department/butchers, and on Kuhn's Markets itself for allowing this mistreatment to occur in your stores. I read a previous review that Kuhns put chicken backs into a package that was suppose to be chicken thighs; well, guess what they are still doing the same thing. I only eat the Amish chicken breast and drumsticks. Kuhn has a habit of putting these on sale and substituting some of the pieces with their regular harmone/steroids breast and drumsticks. I don't know if they think you are stupid and not know the difference. There is a distinct difference in the taste and the size. On another note their prices since the pandimic is over the moon on there their locally sourced products. Like most merchants they a reaping tripple digits profits durning this pandemic. This store on McKnight Road is horrible.. I placed an order for curbside pick. The only spots open were 6-7 and 7-8. I picked 7-8. I placed my order and received a confirmation number. Being handicapped a friend of mine offered to pick up my order, when she got there she called and the maHager named Sha ( sorry if it's missed spelled) came out to the car and she was told there wasn't an order, that all orders were picked up. She called me and I tried to give this manager my order number and he said that doesn't mean anything and walked back into the store.. I called him and he continently told me that he found the order and the pick up date was for the next day, my confirmation had the date for that day. He told me I wasn't getting my order, I had already been billed. I told him that I thought he should shop for my order because didn't work, because I wouldn't have anyone to pick up my order because it it memorial weekend and they were going away for the weekend.. He laughed and told me I'm not getting my order. I also told Shay that if they didn't honor all of their slots then they should talk it down. They had 3 hours to shop for me order. i Told Shay to cancel my order. He said ok. This morning I received a phone call that my order was ready for pick. I told the person on the other end of the phone to talk to the manager because my order was to be picked yesterday and couldn't be so it was canceled.. so Shay not only lied and laughed in my face and doesn't communicate with his employees.. I called corporate and the woman I spoke was sympathetic and took the information.. I was told that this was probably the first time he's done something like this a customer doesn't want to here that , if he's don't it to one he's done it to others. Also the at corporate when I told her I was posting it on social media she said she wished I wouldn't. That right there tells you that they have other complaints. I was told they would talk to him..My reply was how long do you think that will last. a couple hours at the most. But I haven't heard a word back . I will never shop at kuhns Market again. They don't stop to think best advertisement is by word of mouth. read more

Kuhn's is a Pittsburgh tradition dating back to the late '60s. I hate to be critical of a business that has served the city that I love for so many years. But, wow, Kuhn's is icky. This is mostly applicable to the McKnight Road location, although I have been inside two other locations (including Cranberry, which is now closed). Kuhn's feels dirty. It's just an overwhelming sensation from walking through the front doors that you just shouldn't touch anything. I avoid shopping there unless I'm already at Target and having some sort of banana emergency (this is an actual crisis situation). The produce is not fresh, I don't think the average Kuhn's customer eats many fruits/vegetables so stocking quality produce isn't priority. The store is poorly planned and feels disorganized. The staff are rude. The prices are average at best, but really overpriced on Morningstar vegetarian products. I can't imagine anyone liking shopping in this environment. Kuhn's makes me feel like I need a tetanus shot. read more

Who doesn't like a surprise? Kuhns is full of surprises. Yes Kuhns sells food, but I go there for the balloons, house plants and flowers. I love being pleasantly surprised by discovering gorgeous peace lilies, fresh cut roses and all different kinds of attractive plants. One thing that absolutely keeps me coming back for more is their Mylar balloon selection. On one occasion I purchased a 3 foot MEGAMIND balloon for my kid brother's 9th birthday and on another occasion a 3 foot wide slice of watermelon balloon. These are helium balloons I'm talking about people! I know exciting right? I even got my grandma a Easter lily here which she loved! I do my grocery shopping closer to my house, but I know if I want to get a balloon or flowers with a real wow factor this Kuhn's location is were I go. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Only three lines were open with customers waiting all the way back into the aisles. Cashier told me the lady in front of my was the last she would serve - even when I only had three items. Other staff stood around and watched the lines grow longer. Needless to say, I left when I was told I would not be served, and I will never return. read more

Although Kuhn's Market is not super fancy, like other grocery stores, it is my go-to place. It has a lot of variety, despite it limited stores. The prices are very low for the items in the ad. Sometimes there are additional coupons in the ad or in the store, so checkout the bin as you enter. Most of the time, the items are in stock. The prices are well-marked too. The produce is well-taken care of and Breadworks items can be found in the bakery. The meat department is pretty standard. You can sometimes find good mark-downs early in the morning. One thing I really like about this store is the store layout. The aisles are wide and I can reach all the shelves. Everyone is very nice at the checkouts. I do have a minor gripe with how items are bagged. There have been a number of occasions where my eggs or bread are placed underneath heavier items. read more

I am really unhappy with the way Kuhn's seem to be going. The workers do not seem very happy and act like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. The lady who works at the front office (seems to be the one who works the morning hours) is the most unpleasant person I have ever dealt with. Then the cashier who checked me out today (must be new because I've never seen him before) could not even speak. Just grunted and not a word when the transaction was completed. I buy very little there because there are no incentives. So, no incentives and unpleasant employees means not much business from me. read more

We recently bought items from the McKnight Rd store to make a lasagna. After my wife realized there were bugs in the box of Barilla ready made pasta. The store was called and the manager basically said it wasn't their problem, its the manufacturers. They wouldn't replace anything. DO NOT SHOP HERE! I've been a long-time, happy, customer of Kuhn's Markets. They have been the lone competitive choice while living in a uncompetitive market dominated by Giant Eagle. However after tonight and the incident at McKnight Road Kuhn's, I'm done with them. While standing in line at Register 2 for about 10 minutes at 6:50pm, and the next to check out, the cashier turned off her light as I was about to place my food on the conveyor belt and she told me the register was closed. What a bunch of bullshit, I said. I complained to the manager and he opened another register to check me out with my food. Kuhn's has fallen on customer service and quality too. Mark in the deli is the absolute worst, and I know from the worst in terms of customer service. There is no excuse for his hostility when asked simple questions as in "what is that product like?" Nor is there an excuse for slamming people's order/food on the deli slicers. I had a unbelievable horrible experience with the assistant manager (Jacyln) . I was standing in line at customer service since I had forgotten a cas of water previous night and I called and I was intructed to stop at customer service desk. There were 3 customers infront of me and when it was my turn to served she did not even acknowledge me and went to serve another customer at opposite register. I brought it to her attention that I was waiting to be served and she responded that she votes back and forth the 2 registers. I told her the least she could have done is to at least acknowledge me because I have been waiting for a while. She turned to the customer and the both started laughing. I talked to the store manager Justine who apologized. However Kuhn's should not support racist workers. Worst customer service ever! Service desk employee was rude and preoccupied with bald guy who she was flirting with who was apparently a manager instead of waiting on customers! Manager wasn't even wearing business appropriate attire! Seemed more like a date than a work appropriate conversation! Very inappropriate! Never going back to this location again! read more

I do all of my shopping here and the prices are good. You ha e to check the food dates as sometimes I've come across expired or almost expire food, especially for things like yogurt. It's generally clean and people are helpful. The aisles aren't always clearly marked though. read more

This store is big but not the best organized. Today they had ground beef on sale so I checked it out. What was on sale was the 80/20. The 90/10 looked great and the 75/25 looked good but what they had marked as the 80/20 had more fat than the 75/25. I think that they mixed up the 80/20 and the 75/25. Maybe by accident/incompetence or by plan. So it was late and I grabbed a roasted chicken. Big mistake, it was the driest, most overcooked chicken I've ever had. It also tasted a little old. The Kuhn's in Bellevue has good chicken. I guess this chicken will go as cat food. The three SnS in North Hills has great chicken, baked or fried. I do like the produce dept. in this Kuhn's. 6/5/16 Stopped by again.Because of past issues I limit myself to the fresh produce and canned goods and now I have to give a pass on milk. I have gotten it 3 times and it sours 3 or 4 days before the sell by date. I checked my fridg and the temp here is ok,and .I don't have little kids to leave it out so it must be the store. Once it was there own brand and this last time it was United brand.I guess I have to skip the Dairy isle. read more

Produce manager was extremely self important and rude. Couldn't even pick up his head to respond to a request. As a normal human being, you shouldn't be this discourteous to another. This is par for the course at this Kuhn's. I once was buying an item on sale and while placing the items in the cart, someone scribbled "limit 2" on a piece of paper and taped it up. Also, if you go to customer service desk for anything, you have to wait for them to give grandpa his 20 lottery tickets to get waited on. I also find it odd that when I bought Port Authority tickets for my daughter, they only took cash and refused to give me a receipt. Very interesting. Giant Eagle takes credit cards for that and of course gives a receipt. But now its all ConnectCard and I don't go there anymore. Their meat prices used to be competitive, but not for a long time. So unless I'm nearby, I have no reason to shop here and after today, I really don't feel they deserve my business. But they don't care anyway. read more
