Unfortunately for me, when I got there I was disappointed to find out that they only sell the cinnamon rolls & sweet potato monkey bread on the weekends. I didn't leave empty handed though as I was able to get their rum raisin bread pudding (small) for $4.75. The bread pudding was alright but very cold. It did taste a bit better when warmed up but it's nothing special. Depsite the bread pudding being a bit underwhelming, I would still be open to returning for the weekend exclusive items: cinnamon roll & sweet potato monkey bread.

Hidden Gem for Sweet Tooths & Pup Parents!…read more We visited House of Marmalade as part of the Hampton Roads Passport Series, and I am so glad we did -- I don't think I would've discovered this little gem otherwise! The shop is small and cozy with no indoor seating, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and incredible sweets. The bakery case was absolutely stunning -- full of beautifully made cookies, macarons, and more. We tried three macarons (espresso, almond, and salted caramel), and every single one was perfection -- fresh, flavorful, and just the right size and sweetness. We also grabbed a shortbread cookie, which was buttery and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And let's not forget our pup! Lexi got a pumpkin cupcake with peanut butter icing, topped with a tiny bone-shaped treat -- not only adorable, but she devoured it. Definitely pup-approved! The staff was fantastic -- super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. You can tell they care about their craft and their customers. Whether you're doing the Passport Tour or just looking for a place to grab something sweet, House of Marmalade is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

The store was clean, organized and included all of the party essentials, like gift bags, platters, candles and cards. Since the Biscoff Cookie Butter Cake has been all the rage, I wanted to stop in and grab one for myself! I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the ladies were so pleasant. After I ordered, I was told that particular cake was sold out in other stores and their store was one of the few that had it. When things go viral, they sell out quick lol. The Biscoff Cookie Butter Cake was definitely worth the $8. The cake was Biscoff flavored and very moist and it included the perfect amount of cream cheese frosting and Biscoff drizzle! It also included two Biscoff cookies on the bottom and one on the top! What a delicious treat! I will definitely be stopping back in for their other amazing cake flavors!!! Our wedding was on July 11th and we ordered from Storybook Bakery because they were the only bakery…read morewho had reasonable prices for a 3-tier wedding cake. Our cake was only $326 which was phenomenal because other places were charging $800-$1,000 for a 3-tier wedding cake. I really loved the user-friendly website they had. Ordering was so simple and easy and I was able to order a gorgeous pre-made, 3-tier cake, that Jessica and Erik were able to add our wedding colors to. The cake was a vintage style cake and it quite elegant. The top two layers were vanilla with the bottom being chocolate. The cake was delicious, moist, with the perfect amount of buttercream icing. The guests absolutely loved the chocolate as it had layers of what looked like fudge in between the layers or cake. The slices were a mile high tall and did I mentioned the moistness of the cake?! It was amazing. The vanilla was delicious as well, but the chocolate was the crowd favorite. Our guests loved the cake. We will be ordering from Jessica and Erik in the future for events and milestones. We also support veteran owned businesses. Look no further if you want a beautiful and reasonably priced wedding cake!

BUYER BEWARE! I would review this as ZERO if I could. I ordered 4 dozen cookies for my daughter's…read morebridal shower. They were delivered on time but EVERY SINGLE cookie was broken into pieces. I immediately contacted the owner, Jessica, via email (that's the only way to communicate with them), she stated that UPS probably mishandled the package and I should send her pictures. UPS had no fault in this, as the box they were in was small and not sturdy and FRAGILE was not marked on the box. The box was squished. It was the way they were packaged and sent that caused the entire contents to be smashed. Once I sent her pictures, she would not respond to me any further, I sent 3 more emails asking for a refund and never got any response. I don't understand how a business can operate like that. I had to file a claim with my CC and finally received the refund. This Jessica does not care about her customers in the least, I was devastated that I could not use the planned cookies as favours for my daughert's shower and scrambled to get something else, 3 days before the event.

When the cakes I was interested in were out of my budget, they offered inspiration pictures of what they could do within my budget. The cake looked beautiful and got so many compliments. It was moist and tasty, not dried out like some professional cakes are. When I wanted more of a certain color scheme, they pivoted and accommodated quickly and were very nice about it. The "icing on the cake" of their customer service was that they were worried about the meringue pops melting if I picked it up the night before because of the temperature change from their cake fridge to a regular fridge, so she came in early the next morning so I could pick it up right before the party. So many companies would have left me to deal with that on my own, but they went a step above to make sure I had a cake and experience that I was happy with. Cannot recommend them enough. Thank you Custom Cake Cakery!

I stopped by Custom Cake Cakery today to pick up some cupcakes. I used to come here before when it…read morewas a different bakery years ago. So it was my first time here since they changed. I was greeted right away. The young lady at the counter was nice, she was patient, and she answered all my questions. The store is a vibe. There are beautiful flowers and decor, and it's pretty and clean inside. There's a table inside, but it's not much space to eat there. So it's more of a pickup type of bakery. They had several different flavors of cupcakes in the display which all looked tasty!! They also sell custom cakes and other baked goods. I grabbed my cupcakes but I was taking pics for my review. So as I'm taking pics, I'm smiling and minding my business. A lady walks in and you can tell she was in a bit of a mood. She started talking to the girl behind the counter in a rude tone. So I went on taking my pics, and the counter where the register was, had several boxes, so I sat my cake box down on this little cart that had toppings. I thought it was too cute not to get a pic of. All of a sudden I hear the same tone say "please don't sit anything there"! I wasn't aware she was talking to me at first so, she said ma'am and I turned around. She told me no, don't put anything on that, we take that to shows or for catering. She said it could get scratched up or dinged. I apologized and moved the box. She was still talking. So I said ok. I mentioned there wasn't a sign up or anything to alert me that it was a problem. But I wasn't being rude or weird. I mean it literally was a small dessert box. When we both walked outside I told her I wasn't trying to be rude, I just wasn't fond of how she was speaking to me and thought the sign would help avoid conflicts in the future. She obviously didn't want to talk about it, so she said we never needed a sign because no one has ever done that before!! As if I'd broken some unspoken law. Lol. By this time I was confused as to what I did that was so wrong, I even had to giggle because this small situation didn't warrant her being snappy. I tried to give her grace because I don't know what kind of day she was having. But I'm assuming she's the owner at this point. She should definitely get her tone in check, because customers can pick up on your nice nasty approach. I thought this was going to be a good experience, but it left me confused and a little disappointed. The whole vibe was light and airy before she walked in. As for the cupcakes they were not what I expected. I got a mystery box so it was a mix of cupcakes they pick out that are leftovers from the previous day. But these had to have been from several days ago because each and every one was hard, none were moist. Very heavy cupcakes. There was carrot cake, I think a maple one, lemon blueberry, and chocolate. I noticed the carrot cake one had the after taste of raw flour.. . The chocolate one and the lemon blueberry tasted the best out of all of them, but each one of them had to much extract, except the chocolate one. I'm not just saying this because of the encounter we had. I don't hold grudges, this is an honest reaction. I had been excited to try this place because I have a sweet tooth. Maybe the fresher cupcakes taste better, so I'll give them that. But these weren't good to me. That's just my opinion, but still check them out, maybe it'll be a different experience and you may enjoy the flavors!! Again it's a gorgeous store!!
