We had to stop mid ride for him to fix the chain which left his hands greasy for the remainder of our ride to the lighthouse. My main disappointment was location. While it is walking distance to the beach, it's not ON the beach. The town of Buxton was fairly run down. Next time I'd opt to stay in Hatteras, which we actually mistakenly thought we were when we booked.

During the summer months they host great acoustic guitar performances that can be enjoyed along with your dinner. This is the place to go to in the Avon-Buxton-Frisco-Hatteras area for fine dining and well worth the reasonable prices. During our visit earlier this week we ordered a kids meal, Elk chops, lamb, and the filet for this in our group and everything was cooked to perfection. The Chef was helpful at making recommendations on how the Elk should be cooked and the recommendation was spot on! If you're in the OBX this summer, put the Inn on your dinner rotation---especially if looking for a more upscale experience.

And yet, of all the places I have been, few can match the charm and service of this wonderful couple and this establishment. "Charming coastal" is indeed accurate as another reviewer noted, but so is kind and engaging. At least, that is how I found the host Kim, who is the hostess during your stay. The rooms are modest in size but well appointed and comfy with a wonderful balcony to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The highlight of each morning was the breakfast together. The breakfast is served at 9 sharp and is served with the other guests. It makes for not only a delicious breakfast, but Kim uses it as an opportunity to help direct, guide, and suggest places nearby that meet your interests. This is great as it means you get insider tips and ways to optimize your stay by taking the guesswork out--particularly when you have a small window for activities (we were only there for a few days). In the evenings, Kim hosts a happy hour which includes helping guests secure reservations and dinner plans settled before you go. This is not just a recommendation by Kim--she actively calls and secures the spots and confirms them with you. True concierge service! Setting aside the wonderful host and the rooms, the location is superb. We were there over the weekend, and there is a delightful Saturday market literally ACROSS the street filled with vendors of all varieties. Warming: it is easy to spend. ;) The entirety of the downtown is merely a block away with shops, restaurants, and bars galore along with the cruises, sports fishing, and recreation just a short walk down the road. Bottom line: I adored this place and have already recommended it to friends and family here in Durham (where we live) and beyond. If you can swing it (it is worth every penny) and want to give yourself or your partner a weekend to remember, I cannot more strongly recommend the Inn on Turner.

Great stay except for just a couple things…read more If a broom is provided (which there are two) they need to leave a dust pan at least. A small vacuum would be best. Kitchen scissors are a must. They have most everything else. We would stay again but remember to bring sand rugs to put next to the bed and in the bathroom. We did find an outdoor shower next to the pool to clean off before going inside. We didn't want to put that much sand down the plumbing system. The Air conditioner is LOUD, bed is hard and noisy. That's the bad of it. The room stays cool and dark if you want it. Not in direct sun. Nice little porch off A and both have separate entrances. My husband and I stayed in B with my parents in A. The kitchen was nicely appointed. Linens were clean but sparse. Glad we brought our own bath towels. We had to use the extra blankets that we found in the chest of drawers. It would have been nice if there was a summary or info sheet in the room of where to find things like the blankets, extra linens, sauna and how to park the carts and plug in. No info. Had to figure it out. My dad needed a low floor and this was perfect. Just three steps from either door. The A side had a walk in shower stall while B had a huge jetted tub. We did not use the tube but were stupefied that they didn't provide a bath mat for getting in and out. That tub is dangerous to step out of when wet. We'd stay here again but will look for somewhere with a view next time. This is more of a hideaway than a hangout spot

The rooms are great, and we actually like the fact that there are no small children staying there (sorry folks) and that you don't run into the staff often. The guests are always friendly and breakfast is great. However, one huge complaint....their parking structure. The last time we stayed in the inn, there were golf carts parked in the car lot...enough of them to limit parking if not completely wiping out all parking spaces. Per the rules, this is not allowed and golf carts need to be parked in the designated golf cart area, but it was not enforced and I got anxiety every time I took my car out thinking we might not get a space when we get back (yes, we had a golf cart too, but car went driving on the beach). I'm on vacation...I don't need any more anxiety! Another complaint...people were hoarding the bikes instead of putting them back on the rack when they were done. I ended up just stealing one from someone's door lol. I don't think this is relevant anymore because I think they got rid of the bikes...but still was an annoyance.

We splurged on the charcuterie board upon arrival which was 100% worth it. From 4-5pm they had happy hour with complementary wine and appetizers. The Inn owners were so nice and offered great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. We took their suggestion to have dinner at Salt and Cyprus with waterfront views and great cocktails. In the morning, the inn's breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, homemade muffin, coffee, juice, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs. With our short stay, we ran out of time to try out their fire pits and take a bike ride through town. Next time we'll have to stay at least two nights!

Little did we know, we would get stuck on the island with the ferry ceasing to operate due to high winds.
