I asked for a couple of samples before I spent $30 or so dollars on the chocolates, but was denied samples, and felt very unfriendly vibes coming from her. I've only been to the Chambersburg store one other time, which was a quick but good experience. I was disappointed at my most recent visit to the Hagerstown store.

After entering, we received a warm welcome and began perusing the candies and treats. They were organized by time period and some interesting information was posted nearby and/or on the individual item. There were also gift sets. Some of the items were quite dusty and seemed as if they had been there for some time. A lot of the items were things that can be purchased in Cracker Barrel or in other old-timey candy stores elsewhere. They offer modern candy as well, but overall, I was underwhelmed. I was quite surprised to see historic candies so full of artificial dyes. That was an eye opener. I was kind of surprised at the signage throughout the store. The signs seemed basic when considered all the endorsements that the store has. Maybe the signs were made to look less modern. I didn't end up purchasing anything but was glad to visit.

Obviously, you can buy just about any kind of meat you're looking for: beef, chicken, veal, etc., but you can also buy super fresh seafood, deli items, bakery items, hoagies, salads, pre-made meals and much more. The Butcher Shoppe has a partnership with Falafel Shack, a popular restaurant in downtown Chambersburg, so you can find their heat-and-serve individual meals in the refrigerator case. Each and every staff member is helpful and greets you with a smile, from the butchers to the check-out associates and baggers. When asked what to get at The Butcher Shoppe, I often tell folks that everything is good, and it's true. I don't think I've encountered one item in my lifetime of visits that I didn't enjoy. Even though it's gone through a few upgrades over the years, there is always a great sense of nostalgia each and every time I step foot inside the store. The Big Oak Café is great because you can order a variety of drinks and also grab a quick snack or meal while on the go. I can't say enough good things about The Butcher Shoppe. It is my understanding they have been in business for almost four decades The elephants are on display in glass display cases in the back of the store. There is full sized animated elephant outside in front of the store. It provides a great photo opportunity for the little ones The store is chock full of candy, ranging from hard candy to chocolate covered raisins, peanuts and just about everything in between. The candy and chocolates are sold prepackaged and loose for added convenience, as well as offering candy dispensers. They offer nostalgic candies as well, such as candy sticks and candy buttons on paper strips. At the front counter, they also offer store made fudge and chocolates. The store is packed tight with all kinds of candies and novelties. The parking lot is small and can easily get full during busy times such as weekends and warmer weather.
