They had one pot of boiling oil for all the orders they received. I asked a patron if it was good and he gave me a rude look and said, "Of course I am eating it." That should have been my sign from God not to order, but I had a long night of drinking and had nothing since an early breakfast. So I ordered... I figured it would be really good for the 30 minute wait and $15.00, but alas disappointing. Tasteless fish that was either fresh or frozen Pacific cod or frozen poor quality Atlantic cod. The batter was excellent as were the chips and the oil was fresh. I grew up on the north Atlantic coast in the US and lived in England and Ireland. The fish was just awful and that is the entreé so one star. That guy I asked had zero tastebuds. Long Covid? See a doctor, just not me please! Zero ambiance.

They had paper ordering sheets and pencils at the table, which seemed smart. The special of the day was carne asada. You can get flour or corn tortillas though this isn't indicated anywhere. I got a carne asada taco and a green Chile brisket taco. Both had a lot of meat but I wish there had been more toppings. The meat was good but there weren't any sauces or salsas available so it just seemed rather plain and a bit clumsy. My friends had gotten tacos before me and all felt the cheese was definitely parmesan and not cotija, and didn't like it, so I asked for no cheese. I would have liked these better with a scoop of pico! The young woman working to take orders was very friendly and helpful!

When you think #SupportLocal it is harder to think of anything more local than a food truck (save a…read morelemonade stand). Post-pandemic, I'm loving seeing the re-emergence of food trucks throughout the Valley as well as special food truck festivals. For brick-and-mortar restaurants that also have a food truck, it is a convenient way to try new places without traveling. As Forrest Gump said, "My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." The same goes for food trucks, really. When I heard that Mr. Munchies was going to be around, I checked around to see what was going to be on offer. Their Instagram had some snaps of mini-donuts and corndogs. Ooh-kay...It turns out that the menu IS corndogs and mini-donuts. Hence, there is truth in advertising the name Mr. Munchies. This food truck is not offering meals per se as much as they are snacks. I ordered the Heavyweight corndog. It was more than a typical corndog as 1/4 pound all-beef frank hand-dipped in cornbread batter and served golden brown. Add some Jalapeno cheddar and you have quite a large corndog. I have never been a corndog person but this was good. It was fried perfectly and crunchy without being dry. Perhaps my only complaint was that at $10 it seemed pricey but food prices are going up. Now, for the donuts. These are also served directly from the fryer. Mr. Munchies has several toppings and flavors available. When I asked if I could mix and match (even six and six) they said no. This totally makes sense from an operational perspective but is also a daunting choice when you are ordering a dozen of something you have never had before. I went with the Reese's Peanut Butter version since it's a flavor I know and like. They claim the mini-donuts are drizzled with Ghiradelli chocolate and Reese's. What I ended up with was a small box of flavorless dough. They weren't sweet and they really didn't have any flavor other than grease. I ate one and stopped there. It is possible that I perhaps chose the wrong flavor. They had several others including a cinnamon sugar one that would perhaps taste better. But the Reese's was an expensive flop at $8. Would I eat at Mr. Munchies again? Probably not. But it is self-described "carnival food" and when you need a quick fix, their corndogs may be the answer.
