This soup was amazing. Knoephla is the name and it is so good.

Krolls was a great find. Our waitress Heather explained the best known items and made great suggestions. We loved it. Top notch service in a relaxed environment with amazing food!! We were in town for only a day but so glad we stopped. Great value too! Thanks Krolls, we tried 3 new things and loved them all!!!

Neat little place! The German cuisine options were really neat and two entrees and a dessert didn't break our bank. Our server got the job done without hovering and it was honestly kind of fun to overhear the college aged employees talking and laughing and genuinely enjoying each other's company. My husband and I were torn between getting a milkshake or slice of pie to share but ultimately got the strawberry rhubarb pie which was delicious. We also would recommend the knoephla soup!

Cute old fashioned diner. Walking in it looks straight out of back to the future. I was seated right away, next to the section that was closed off. Took a few mins to look at the menu and decided on a burger, fries and milkshake (save for after dinner and to go). Food came out pretty fast. Burger came with no condiments so I asked for mayonnaise. Forgot I was in the Midwest and what I got was miracle whip not mayo. I don't eat ketchup so on the miracle whip went to make my burger less dry. Other than the non mayo everything was good. Service was fast and accurate.

While in Fargo for work, I was told that I needed to try Knoephla soup. Kroll's Diner had a 50's diner vibe that was fun, the soup was delicious and I was super excited that they had strawberry rhubarb pie! I would definitely go back!

    Great coffee for a diner.

Great atmosphere! Loved the old time 50's dinner look. Food was delicious to boot! Our server was very accommodating and friendly! Easy stop and not that far off of the interstate for travelers!

Quick service and decent food. I saw this place and decided to pop in. When I found out they made and served German food, I was even happier! I'll definitely eat here again!

Don't let the outside fool you. I assumed from the exterior that this was a typical 50s diner with burgers, fries, and milkshakes. It is, but it has a hidden secret: authentic homemade German food! I stumbled across this place when I was looking for breakfast, and I was not disappointed. I had Clara's special with eggs, hashbrowns, and a choice of breads and meats. I chose the biscuits and gravy and the Polska kielbasa. Everything was so delicious! But I discovered, when looking at the menu, that they also offer German cuisine. I absolutely have to come back here for dinner and try all of these authentic dishes from my childhood! Highly recommend!

It was between this place or perkins because nothing else was open, both open 24hrs. We were staying in fargo for the night and it was late when we got in. We had never been to or heard of Krolls so we said "why not!". It's a cute little 50's style diner with bright lights and booths for sitting. The hostess never said hi, he just put up two fingers and waved to follow him. No words said, all he said was the server will be with you shortly after he sat us. Lol that was weird. So we are already kinda weirded out. We look at the menu and had no idea it was German food. But hey you gotta try new things! They serve breakfast all night as well. I tried their "famous soup", Knoephla soup. No idea what it was but the menu said it was their famous dish so it's gotta be good. But hey, everyone has different taste buds and mine didn't like the soup. I had wished the soup was a thicker consistency, instead it was a water consistency. The taste just wasn't right either. Their chicken nuggies were good though. I felt like this would be a great place for younger people to go to late at night, because they are so cheap and not the greatest food. Good drunk night food.

Kroll a is one of the reasons I like coming to Fargo once in a while. This place is usually my breakfast spot before I fly home. Not only do I love the food, I also enjoy the friendly service. I always sit at the counter, and Krysta is one of the best diner waitresses I've had! Today I had pancakes and their homemade sausage patty's. Theses disks of meat are a must try! Just the right about of spice, slightly crIspy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Pancakes were great too! On another visit I ordered the country fried steak. This is a big tasty meal, but worth the sleepiness that comes with the full belly that you will leave with. They also have a local North Dakota delicacy called Knoephla Soup (which I learned that the "K" is silent. I was brought up in Wisconsin, were we pronounce the "K".... I looked it up, we were wrong) Anyway, the Soup is a German/Russian form of creamy dumpling soup. It's really good, especially on a cold day.

Knefla soup was pictured as well as their amazing chocolate malt on the right.

I'm not a local, but I've been here 4 times. Never once have I had a bad server, and all employees have been nothing but nice. Great service 4.5/5. Great diner atmosphere, and I love the exterior look. It really stands out. The food is amazing, and I would recommend any of their breakfast skillets, especially the biscuits and gravy, which to me were a 5/5. The chocolate malt is extremely rich and the best I've ever had, but make sure you have some water or milk nearby. The only complaint food wise is that the kneofla soup wasn't that good and the dough tastes like frozen dumpling dough. Other than that, nothing negative about this place. 4.5/5

We had a large group, but didn't wait too long to be seated. An extensive breakfast menu suited everyone.

"He had white horses And ladies by the score…read moreAll dressed in satin And waiting by the door Ooh, what a lucky man, he was" (Emerson, Lake, and Palmer) Lucky's 13 Pub is a large pub with a prominent U-shaped bar and plenty of table and chair and booth seating. The menu has the usual pub fare - wings, burgers, salads, and sandwiches. But on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-1, the menu expands to things like omelets, hash, Benedicts and breakfast sandwiches. So, when our Friday night hotel bartender recommended Lucky's for breakfast, well, we knew where we'd be headed. The breakfast service we encountered on Saturday was extraordinary, so hats off to our server Beth. Our party of ten walked in when breakfast opened, and she quickly set up a few long tables for our group. Oh, and she set out two coloring activities and crayons for the two young guests in our group. Our breakfast started with complimentary bowls of popcorn and we saw some very interesting eye openers on the menu, like a Breakfast Punch (with Rum, orange and pineapple juice, strawberry purée, and ginger ale), a Lucky's Blueberry Pancake Shooter (with Stoli Blueberry vodka, Butterscotch, Orange Bacardi, and a slice of bacon) and a Keoki Coffee (with Kahlua, Baileys Irish Cream, coffee and whipped cream). We passed on these alcoholic temptations; Beth took our orders flawlessly and the food started rolling out of the kitchen in no time. We started off with a order of Beignets for the table ($9.99) - "Deep-fried beignets made with croissant dough, topped with powdered sugar & a side of strawberry jam. I tried one and it was very good -piping hot, light as a feather, but surprisingly not greasy. My wife ordered a Ham and Cheese Omelet ($13.99 served with her choice of toast and a side of fresh fruit, home fries or cheesy baked hash browns. It was a generous portion and the fruit cup she ordered was fresh and tasty. My Cajun Hash ($15.49 with Andouille disks, shredded chicken, two big shrimp, peppers, onions, cheesy hash, & scrambled eggs) was one of the best breakfasts I've had all year. It was a gigantic portion, and I was more than full with half of it. Beth was automatic with the coffee refills, was very sweet dealing with the two children in our party and gladly gave our couples separate checks. One very cool thing we saw was a "Treasure chest" full of children's toys, coloring books, and activities as freebies for the little darlings that visit. These weren't junky dollar store toys, but some nice stuff. We could not have been happier with our breakfast at Lucky's 13.

Smoke & Iron is new to West Fargo. So why does it feel like I've been here before?…read moreThat's the challenge with this style of restaurant -- how do you rise above the familiar? Smoke & Iron certainly tries. The menu is creative, the cocktails are eye-catching (including a smoked Old Fashioned worth ordering for the spectacle alone), and the décor is polished and modern. Still, the overall experience feels a bit too familiar. It's definitely a step above an Applebee's, but it lands somewhere in that upscale-yet-safe middle of the American dining scene. For all its ambition and investment -- clearly millions poured into design, staffing, and concept -- it stops just short of being truly remarkable. Our group of eleven was lively, and our server, Kea, handled the crowd with poise and good humor. After a few well-made cocktails, dinner arrived. We sampled dishes like the Beef Tenderloin, Honey Smoked Salmon, and New York Strip Oscar. Across the table, the consensus was the same: everything was good -- attractively plated, properly cooked (mostly hot), and seasoned well. I had the New York Strip Oscar myself. It arrived warm, not hot -- and as I worked my way through it, my impressions began to settle. The steak was fine, the flavors pleasant, but there was no spark, no "wow." Others at the table echoed that feeling: solid, but not memorable. In the end, Smoke & Iron feels like a restaurant earnestly reaching for distinction but not quite grasping it. It's better than most, certainly closer to the top than the bottom, yet still caught in that crowded middle -- among all the other places trying hard to be "the next big thing." Would I tell you not to go? Not at all. It's worth a visit. Just go with measured expectations. I genuinely hope Smoke & Iron finds its footing and breaks free from the pack -- because it's clear they're aiming for more.
