Cave Point is one of those places you just have to see when you're in Door County. The views are incredible, the waves crashing into the limestone cliffs are mesmerizing, and there are plenty of spots to stop and take it all in. Whether you're hiking, kayaking, taking photos, or just enjoying the scenery, there's always something going on. We got a little bit of everything in one visit, and it made for a memorable stop. Definitely a must-see Door County destination.

This is a great park for just hopping out to get an amazing view if you're not up for hiking. We did a loop from Whitefish Dunes state park that included circling through this park as well; it was a great half day hike. The views of the caves and crashing waves from above are amazing. This is definitely a park that might be challenging for anyone with small children who struggle to follow safety rules as there are very steep drops and it's important to stay a safe distance from the edge. The new connection between this and Whitefish dunes is really nice and features a few blowholes which spout water from below when the waves are particularly high.

This is a lovely park, and since my last visit they have rebuilt the access to the beach that is near the parking lot. They've also added a blue mat that makes it easy to walk along the beach between entrance 1 and 2. The beach is beautiful and a great place to look for fossils. After climbing back up to the trail at the second access point a park employee alerted us to the presence of orange slime mold on some stumps. Apparently it is a rare phenomenon and the bright orange goop is actually a collection of harmless amoebas. I learn something on every vacation! We hiked the loop and then continued on the new connection to Cave Point Country Park which made for a really nice half day hike!

We reserved a site at Scheffel's Hideaway Campground based on a comment from a camping acquaintance…read morethat the area was beautiful, friendly, and cooler than average. Since we had never been to that part of Wisconsin, we decided to give it a try. We've been full-time RVers for 14 years and can honestly say this is our favorite spot out of at least two or three hundred other campgrounds including everything from boondocking to resorts. The grounds are immaculate, as are the restrooms and two laundry rooms, which are handicapped friendly. The roads, while unpaved are of a fine shell or gravel and hard packed so these are easy to traverse using a walker. There are miles of popular, well-kept walking/bicycle paths nearby going from Point Rawley to the north, past the park and on to Manitowoc to the south. The owners of the park, Tammie and Paul, love the park and are working tirelessly at making it more beautiful every year. There is a lovely pond, lots shrubs and flowers as well as bat houses, bird houses and feeders (we watched goldfinches as we ate dinner several times), whimsical decorations large and small scattered throughout which are changed with the seasons. A number of sites have shade, and most of those without full grown trees have young trees about 15 feet tall or so and will provide more shade every year. Guidelines for the park are clear and reasonable: guests are asked to respect the space and people which is of course, simple common courtesy. All-in-all, this is is our idea of the perfect combination of a natural and well-kept park and friendly people. We are looking forward to our next, longer visit next year. They have a laundry room with one washer ($2) and one dryer ($1). It was located just outside of town, but not so to be inconvenient. The is a restaurant located just outside the campground. The camp office doesn't seem to be open often, but the owners live on site so if you ever need anything. Great place, hidden gem! And reasonably priced.

You can tell just from talking to him that he has a great deal of experience with salmon fishing and has taken many people out. Thy were both very accommodating and easy going. We had some rough weather for a few days and it made it difficult to schedule the trip, but it certainly was worth the wait to get out there and catch some fish. Definitely would charter with them again!

There is another set of regular bathrooms at the concession stand near the middle back from the beach a ways. There is another concession stand that sells some Asian food, slushies and boba tea on one end of the beach in the parking lot. Not sure what their hours are for either place. There is a nice walking path made of blacktop I believe. People of all ages were there and many going into the water, some building castles in the sand and others floating or playing frisbee in the water. No glass containers are allowed btw. But, we carried our cooler and snacks with us. It's very clean and the sand is so soft. Popped up the umbrellas for a little shade and towels out for reading. I didn't see it but one of my kids said there is a section for dogs. I did see a sign for the regular part of the beach that said dogs allowed on a leash from 6-10 am. Easy breezy parking and lots of it including overflow parking. Parking is so close to the beach makes hauling stuff not too difficult. Had a great time and everyone was very respectful.

The water is always cold. There is some brisk winds that come off the lake, even in the summer. But a nice place to hang out and enjoy the day.

This is one of my favorite state parks. I came here as a kid with my family to picnic and swim at…read morethe beach. It still has a nice beach with tables and grills and even a Pavillion. We hike the many trails that run through the park, one of which has a good view of the limestone escarpment that High Cliff is named for. The observation tower offers a panoramic view of Lake Winnebago. We come here enough that it is worth getting a season park pass.
