I came to Kroger tonight (3/24/2026) about 930pm or so - possibly as late as 10pm to get some groceries that I wanted to get for the next few days. The Frito Chips were advertised on special for 4 for $10 or whatever the regular price per item was if you didn't purchase 4 bags of the same size/options. When I checked out, I asked the attendant if I could use a store Kroger/coupon card, as I'm not.a local and don't have a Kroger card (we don't have Kroger where I live). The attendant acted somewhat odd - and I wondered if perhaps I had offended her because I didn't greet her properly (though I was not rude) before asking about using a store Kroger card for the discounts. She didn't respond to me at first and then asked how I was. After we completed the pleasantries, I then asked again about the discount card usage and she agreed that she would be glad to help with my request. We made pleasant talk as she rang the order up, though her mannerisms seemed to indicate she was exhausted or possibly on some type of medication. I asked if she was tired and ready to go home, which she denied and then she talked about her allergies. We spoke about allergies for a bit and then I used my credit card to pay once the grocery order was complete and she used the store discount card to apply to the order. After paying, I looked at the receipt and noted it did not appear the chips rang up as 4 for $10. She questioned my thinking and I showed my receipt. She continued acting somewhat odd, as if medicated or something. I offered to take a photo of the coupon at the shelves where I observed the coupon and left my receipt with her while I went to the chip aisle. I came back to the register and walked up to her with my phone. She asked me to wait, as she had taken the next folks in line behind me by this point - which I did with no issue/patiently. When she finished the folks behind me in line, she looked at my phone showing the coupon on the store shelf with the advertised price and the brands, etc. included in the coupon. She seemed unsure and seemed to continue to question my logic as well as act somewhat addled. I decided to move on and asked for the receipt. She said she didn't keep it. I did not argue nor did I attempt to correct her. I matter of fact stated, I left it with you when I went to look at the coupon. I also stated that if this was the worst thing that ever happened to me, I would live a good life and I then turned to go. She called me back from the door holding up the receipt. I then looked at the receipt with her and attempted to talk about the question again. She indicated that I didn't use my phone coupon and that was the issue. At this point, I stated that I would not have purchased 4 bags of chips without the coupon and I just wanted to return the others and keep the bag if chips I originally wanted without the coupon/discount. She indicated I could not return at the register and would need to go to customer service. There were two other attendants around/in the area observing all or part of the transaction and/or issue I described above. I never observed either of them attempt to assist with this issue either. At this point, I decided it was better to just leave, as it didn't seem anyone was capable, willing and/or able to assist with the issue. It seemed to me that the attendant was troubled by the whole issue - possibly resulting from her addled condition - which I do not know if it was her ordinary method of interacting with customers or if she was responding/reacting to some particular situation/circumstance, or even me in particular, etc. I don't think I ever lost my cool nor do I think I was rude. This is just one of the reasons why the big box stores are not always really the better places to shop. They often do not have the personalized feel of a store where the ownership or manager or the employee has a vested interest in high level customer service. I did not experience what I call great customer service and the situation was aggravating for sure. Again - if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me - I will live a great life. Regardless, the point is the lack of ability to provide good customer service and help resolve what should have been a simple issue. Better luck next time and maybe I need to just keep my business at the locally owned and operated Piggly Wiggly on the island. Their customer service has always been fantastic and they seem to know what to do when dealing with customers. read more

We like the grocery store options at HHI. We find that Kroger is a Great First Stop for Veggies and Fruits. Several apple varieties, lots of bananas, and excellent produce. We like the small salads to add to the fridge. Caveat: Best to avoid weekend shopping frenzy. Now - lots of small carts. Convenient parking and enter/egress 278. We'll be exploring grocery store options this week. Yes, Russell Crowe should have been nominated and won the Oscar this year - Perhaps, the younger generation is ill-informed on WWII. read more

I stopped in Kroger on October 20th, 2025, while staying in the area for a little vacation. I needed a few toiletry items and even grabbed a few souvenirs. I was able to easily locate what I needed. The prices were pretty reasonable, especially for the souvenir items. This grocery store is kept very clean, with alot of available parking and it's very conveniently located to area hotels. read more

Excellent service! We needed to shop early before our kids were arriving, so we went to Kroger, noting that it did open early. We grabbed a HUGE order, and discovered that the cashiers don't arrive until 8am. Thanks to Earnest and Brenda for opening up an aisle for us....much appreciated! read more

I was in the market for some snacks because i recently ran out and was cooking out. This place is near my house for the week and i thought i might as well stop in. The snack selection is top tier. I would highly recommend the amc brand popcorn they also have everything else you need for a week of beach fun! They also have lots of fun items for the pool and beach. Got in past 6:30p so stopped by to get necessaries n quick dinner, 2 sushi rolls one bowels, rest are std for a week at hhi. Don't get the sushis, rice are hard, one roll, nephew has diarrhea n nausea for a hours! I know not a good idea to get sushi at market. Would not use krogers again, there are so many markets at hhi. Imagine a supermarket that's the size of a Walmart but with the quality of a not-Walmart. That's Kroger. Excellent produce, huge beer and wine, fabulous deli, terrific butcher and seafood, lots and lots of dry goods. I found the cheese bunker here to be massive. Lots of options and I found exactly the blue cheese that my wife likes and then shopped for a few other nibbles. Not needing a full shop but still seeing that they really have everything. As I was picking out apples, I was told by the employee in produce "ma'am I have to work". This happened at approximately 2:15 pm 10/13/24. I am very particular when picking produce. This is the first bad experience I've had at this Kroger. I don't usually say "because I'm black" but sadly I thought it. I'm sorry that I haven't written a good review but this really got my blood boiling. I hope employees are patient with customers. I am a native islander and NOT a tourist. Kroger on Hilton Head is a good place to shop. One tip - be prepared for low inventory on items in the produce section if you try to shop on a Sunday as this is when a lot of people are coming onto the Island stocking up for their stay. The store always have a nice selection of fresh lunch meat sliced and ready to go. The folks in the deli are efficient and work hard to get everyone served. The store is always clean, has plenty of registers open, and the staff is friendly and helpful. read more

It's either Pig Wig it Kroger's to do your stock up on the island... outside of Sams now located off the island. Make sure to get a Kroger card...or you'll pay "tourist" prices on MANY things. Nice selection of beer, good deli, etc. A Starbucks for Java. We go here mainly for convenience to Palmetto Dunes. read more

I've never written a review for a grocery store. I've also never been in a grocery store with a beer/wine bar tucked into one of the corners. A regular grocery store located in the heart of Hilton Head Island. A benefit of Kroger is they are within the Pick N' Save family and thus the shoppers card will work to qualify you for the sale prices. A large, clean store. Prices are a little elevated, but you're in Hilton Head so what price isn't already a little elevated. read more

This is a larger Kroger than the one in Bluffton and because of that, they have a better selection across the board. The only downside is that with a bigger store and more selection, I typically spend more time in here. Of course that results in spending more money as well. The store is clean but the layout is a little complicated. Things aren't necessarily where you would expect which means I usually have to back-track for something I've missed. This is not my #1 go-to for regular shopping but occasionally I will venture in if there is something I want that I can't find at another store. read more

The staff is usually either indifferent or mildly rude and stand-offish, and generally unhelpful. I think I've had a couple of friendly staff over the years that I've shopped here, but fact is that is the rare exception to the rule. If I can avoid dealing with any of their staff, I go out of my way to avoid it. Leaving carts for stocking shelves in the middle of busy walkways is symbolic of their disdain for their customers. Checkout and the butcher departments are the worst. read more

Since we were staying in a condo during the very short time on the island, we came here for the basics. The store is huge, has a huge variety of merchandise, it was fun to try some food and beers they don't carry on the West Coast. It was a plus to use our Ralph's rewards card here since it's part of the Kroger family. Customer service could be better, but overall, this is a huge, clean store, very well stocked up. I recently took a weekend trip to Hilton Head, and I visited this Kroger. It was the nicest grocery store I've ever been in with some great deals. I had lunch here from the deli counter, which has a great deal for lunch. You get a protein and two sides for only $6, and the meal is huge. Maybe not quite big enough for two people to split, but definitely too much for me to eat by myself. I got two pieces of salmon, green beans, and a wheatberry salad and everything was delicious. It was the best "hot bar" meal I've had and I've eaten at several grocery stores with hot bars ;). My friend got a grab-and-go Atlantic Cod fish sandwich for only $2, definitely a steal if you're on the run. They also have a Starbucks, a Coke Freestyle machine, made-to-order sandwiches, and made-to-order personal pizzas. Of course, if you're not into that, you can always buy all your groceries or even shop for HHI souvenirs. Of course, this review isn't based on regularly shopping at this Kroger, so take it for what it's worth, but every employee I encountered was nice and courteous, and the store was very clean. If I lived on HHI or frequently visited, I'd definitely be a regular at Kroger! read more

I used to like to go to Kroger here on Hilton Head Island, because I always shopped at Ralph's (same owner of Kroger) back in La Quinta, CA, and get some of the same products and the price savings when using their rewards card. HOWEVER, I have had too many experiences in a row where I have felt the need to complain to a manager there about the poor customer service! They don't seem to care one whit in general about the customer experience. Cashiers and "baggers" would rather stand there and talk to each other than bag your items, and apparently expect you to bag them yourself! Their attitudes are generally downright unfriendly and sullen and outright rude. On top of that, management seems fit to put only one or max two cashiers on the floor even at peak hours like on the weekends! I have never seen such looooong lines at a grocery store in my life. They also have a lot of self-check out and it seems like they obviously prefer to push customers to use that instead of going to a cashier, since they are in short supply. While I love to save money with my reward card, I also love to be treated with excellent customer service and not walk out of a store feeling disrespected. On top of that, one cashier was texting while she was checking me out, and sure enough, I found she charged me twice for an item so I had to waste time by going to the customer service desk to get the refund. I guess I am going to have to pay a bit more money and go to Harris Teeter or Publix, except for a few items I can only get at Kroger, like Luvsome Dog Food, from now on! read more

Excellent selection of food and beach type items; whatever you may need for your vacation or normal living days (if you are lucky enough to live here year round). Minus 1 star because they do not sell local caught fish and seafood at their fish counter. Why not? Someone please explain. They can steam lobsters or shrimp for you which is nice. Bonus is when we had this done the seafood department deveined our shrimp, as well. Thank you! Quick already prepared meals - they have selections of chicken dishes, slices of pizza, Mexican food (even veggie tacos... thank you! and open until 7 p.m.), and sandwiches. Starbucks is in store and you can pick up a bottle of wine and chill it right in the wine section of store... excellent feature! They were revamping this area while we were here so hopefully they do not get rid of the wine chiller. Huge selection of beer and wine, too... biggest I have seen in a Kroger. They used to be the best place to get gas for your car, too, but for some reason that is no longer the case. Overall store has lots of variety of groceries and occasional markdowns. Employees always seem friendly and helpful. Bakery items are very good... and dangerous. I highly recommend! read more

I mostly love how centrally-located this Kroger is. It's easy to get to, has all of the standard grocery offerings, and makes keeping stocked up pretty quick and painless. It's usually pretty darn crowded and they're regularly understaffed and pretty bored with their jobs, but it gets the kitchen stocked without too much effort. You need groceries, it has groceries, and it's on the way. Just don't expect to feel like a valued customer. PROS: -Perfectly located Kroger. It's right next to Shelter Cove's shopping area and super easy to reach off the main stretch through the island. This makes it really nice to stop in for regular grocery errands - especially if you're making your own food during your vacation. -There's a Starbucks location in Kroger. I wouldn't call it a great location, but it does exist. -Everything we've wanted has mostly been in-stock. We haven't had too many issues with sold-out items aside from when we head in on Saturdays. The store is a fully-stocked grocery with regular offerings. -It's a pretty modern and clean store too. Good offerings including above-and-beyond what I want as well as seasonal stuff (for the beach and holidays). The store looks pretty modern, the carts work really well, and the signage is accurate and makes it somewhat simple to find everything you're looking for. CONS: -For the love of everything that's holy, try to avoid coming on Saturday evenings. As people check into their vacation rentals, this is definitely the serious rush hour here - and a lot of shelves will be wiped pretty clean. Sunday isn't great either. The store does a pretty good job of restocking though, and we didn't see many empty holes by Monday morning. -The store seems to be oddly organized. The Frozen Food section is on a far side of the store on the opposite side of the health and beauty products - literally 4-5 aisles away from any of the food aisles. I'm guessing this had something to do with electricity or space, but it's a pretty odd location for a frozen foods section and nothing like I've ever seen in grocery stores before. -Parking is usually pretty full - even at 8 in the morning. Expect to have a bit of walk to get inside of the store - even if you go during weird hours. -The store seems to be regularly understaffed. Long lines - especially during peak hours - seems to be completely normal, and even during dead times, only a couple lanes open seems to be a regular thing. Looks like they often reassign bagging staff to check-out lanes, so we've had to bag our own groceries 3 out of the last 4 visits. It's not the end of the world by any means, but just expect to do it. In addition, we usually get a cashier who seems pretty damn annoyed about their job and doesn't greet or say much during the transaction. read more

The store was difficult to navigate and the people shopping for deliveries were rude and frequently blocked large sections of groceries. Worse than that was the checkout, where I was not greeted and even though I put my groceries in order of what should be bagged together it was piled in a stack at the end of the conveyor. A girl very slowly bagging my groceries then and now she was taking a break and the cashier asked me if I wanted to bag groceries. Do I work at Kroger? No I do not. Well I did help bag my own groceries, they put every combination of thing in every paper bag. I have frozen things with toiletries I have frozen things on my bread. The glass wine glass? When to buy a VISA gift card for $100 dollar and gave it as gift to a friend and what a shame the Visa gift card didn't work just because when you have to activate the card the automatic system doesn't work. Try so many time to activate it on their automatic system and didn't work at all. Then call the number they give on the back of the card more than 10 times and they keep you for hours on line and the Specialist never answered. Then when to Kroger to ask for help or get my money back the manager said the have nothing to do about it. Why they are selling this VISA gift cards if they know that this cards don't work. . Are they VISA and Kroger stilling money through this business of selling gift cards that cannot be activated but they have your money and claim to be not responsible and not willing to call the company to complain in the customer behind. Arrived on Hilton Head Island yesterday. Celebrating my retirement and end of the school year! Exhausted. I placed a delivery order from Kroger. 2 hour delivery time. No problem. Here by 8pm. 3 messages later after I stayed up for the 1:30am delivery, it will be here 8-8:30 this morning. Just now I get a message. Rescheduled for tomorrow. Ummmm. NO! CANCELLED! Don't schedule your groceries through Kroger. If a business is unable to handle your order whether due to product or employee shortage, DON'T TAKE THE ORDER!!!!! Off to Publix I go. read more

Arriving From out of town I placed my grocery order days ahead. I was notified that my groceries will be delivered at 6 PM. I was notified my groceries would be delivered at 7:30 PM. The groceries never arrived. I was told simply that there was no driver available. I was rescheduled for the next day -no groceries delivered. When I called the manager at Kroger 's, I think his name was Sean although I couldn't understand him, he more or less said 'tough luck' He said he had nothing to do with the delivery. Well, no one told me that when I was placing the order. Shameful, shameful customer service. I had to shop Kroger's today because no other store was open, but it will be my last time! read more
