This is the best grocery store I've been to in a long time. It's a chain store that behaves like it's just a local store. They contract with boaters to get fresh fish delivered on Saturdays. Each week there is a different variety... some choices I've never even heard of like hogs head fish, triple tail fish, sheepshead fish, black grouper, gag grouper (caught by spear!) and others. They are quite pricey though $32-40/lb. You can order ahead with your name, phone number, and time/ date of pickup and they will set it aside for you. We're from Charlotte and packed our large cooler with ice ($3 for 7lb bag / $6 for 16lb bag) to take fresh fish back with us ! The lady at the counter said she was a chef and gave good descriptions of the flavors of each fish and some great ideas of what to pair each with when placing the order. Apparently one type of fish was not available when delivered, so they called me to advise of that fact and ask if I was interested in hog fish that came in instead. When I went to pick it up, the guy got the rest of my order ready. This place has a whole section of different colors of Piggly Wiggly t-shirts in different colors. They have an entire section of local made goods too. Jams, pickled items, dressings, preserves, hot sauces, bbq sauces, cocktail sauces, honey, etc. I also got one of their cute Piggly Wiggly bags that had a cute pig butt on the back side that said "wiggle wiiggle". Haha. They have a whole section of Hilton Head souvenirs to choose from. I got a glittery wristband for my keys and a corkscrew for my husband. Cashier was a chatty Southern woman, just like you see in the movies. Highly recommend this store !!! Photos of what I made with the Fish attached. This has become a tradition when we visit Hilton Head. We have to visit the Piggly Wiggly. Why? Because we LOVE the merch. And by "we" I mean me, my sister, my kiddo, and her kiddos. Now this location is pretty convenient, located in Colgny Square, especially if you're renting. a house/condo in the area, it's walkable and easy to get to. This location also has a larger parking lot, so if you're just running to grab a few things, you shouldn't have a problem finding parking. When you arrive outside, you'll see a large pig cutout, don't be embarrassed take a pic with the pig, we took many lol. When you go inside, you may feel like you walk into the grocery store, you feel like you walked into a bit of a time warp. I promise you that only leads to the charm of the Piggly Wiggly. Before you can go to the produce section, you have to pass through the merch. This is where Piggly Wiggly shines. They have shirts of every size and color. They have shirts/onesies for infants, hats, beach bags, koozies, sweatshirts, and they now even have a line of holiday inspired shirts. I will say prior to going to the Piggly Wiggly we had gone grocery shopping at a bigger box store, and I'm a bit annoyed that we did. The prices at Piggly Wiggly were cheaper, way cheaper. Also, don't sleep on their crumb coffee cake. It was a real hit with our family! read more

A fun experience to shop the family owned kind of business and oldest grocery store on the island! They have great local food favorites and also have super souvenir items. It's a fun place with their local series Tshirts and wearables, etc. The food is fresh and awesome! I was noticing today how much better their produce was than the big box store I shopped yesterday! They also didn't have boiled peanuts from a local favorite vendor at the big box store - but they had it here at the piggly wiggly! Did I mention the personal Servce? That differed from the box store too. Yesterday at the big box grocery store - I had a grumpy attendant who made me move lines because she was getting ready to shut her line down. She wasn't pleasant and was sorta rude about it - but at the piggy wiggly we were met with friendly folks all around. I noted that they really have the local feel including a care fund for a local customer who has health issues and also support of a charity event that provides food and health care for underprivileged children. I always prefer locally owned places when I can find them and I'm glad I stopped by - we will be back! read more

Super cute supermarket in the heart of Hilton Head (Coligny area). I mean it's called the Piggly Wiggly! I even bought an adorable shirt for my son. They have an entire section devoted to their merchandise (shirts). The supermarket hasn't been updated in quite sometime but it was a perfect stop for us to grab food, snacks, essentials and even some beach toys. It's definitely a one stop shop. They even have wine! read more

Prices are less than Harris Tweeter but the selection is less too. It is a great place to get a quick bite to cook in the kitchen. Most of the employees were at the checkout stands. The store was clean but appeared a little cluttered. read more

Everyone always wants a t-shirt and they have a nice selection. My favorite is their reusable grocery bags - excellent quality and adorable! Decent location with a plethora of goodies. I was surprised by the product section with so many appetizing fruit and veggies. A fairly extensive selection of wines as well. It is amazing how much food we seem to be going through on this weekend and so here's another stop. This time, we picked up two bottles of wine. The store is small and densely packed. They have put an entire supermarket into this footprint including produce, beer and wine, butcher, frozen, canned goods, personal care and such. I thought prices were good. We were shuffling around the seafood counter trying to decide what fish to purchase for dinner when the fishmonger spoke up and told us exactly which fish she recommended, and why. We were delighted to try a new fish (hogfish- sounds horrible but it was FANTASTIC!) Cozy (her name, no I did not make that up) even told us how to cook the fish "unsalted butter- no blackened seasoning ) and suggested a great side dish (Mexican street corn). It was my first experience shopping at Piggly Wiggly, and I was underwhelmed. This location is rundown and old, with crowded aisles and low ceilings. Production selection and prices were good. But there were not many organic options available. The Safeway in Hilton Head is a better option for groceries. read more

Poor selection and quality at vacation prices. They have a fairly large selection of wine given how small the store is. Produce is bad. I got a bag of snap peas, some mushrooms, and a bag of carrots and all were rotten when I opened them the next day. The mushrooms were slimy and gross, some of carrots were edible but others were slimy and rotten, and the whole bag of snap peas was inedible and left a horrid rotten taste in my mouth. The only thing worth buying here are the shirts. There are other places nearby to get groceries- go there instead. read more

The primary reason I go to Piggly Wiggly is for their local beer selection. In my opinion, it's one of the best selections on the island that I found. Another reason I like to go here is the fresh local seafood. I ordered 2 pounds of shrimp a couple of days ago, and they were very very good. There were a few items that were not in stock, but overall I was able to find everything I needed, and it appeared to be reasonably price. I love the kettle corn near the registers. It's five dollars and I love it. I didn't realize they closed at 9 PM. So I was pretty close one night getting in to the time they were closing, but the management was very accommodating. read more

Has decent selection. But they are knowingly ripping people off. Meats are priced per package -- in this case $9.99 and say "just $5 / lb). Since when is $10 for 1.3 lbs $5 a lb? Terrible service. Closed their doors 10 minutes before closing time (8pm). The hours on google said open until 8:30, and when we brought it up, an employee snapped at us to look at the sign on the door (fair but unwarranted in the moment). We mentioned all we needed to buy was a lighter and were rudely told to go to a gas station instead.... I've worked in grocery stores before and would never have treated potential customers this way. Awful experience!! May have just been a particular employee but I hope Piggly Wiggly is able to notice this employee's behavior and correct it. read more

Hours listed the store is open until 8:30. Pull up at 8:10. Lights out and employee is locking up and leaving. If hours change update website or insure employee stays until Closing time. When you find yourself needing a few grocery items, but don't want to stray far from the beach this is your place. It is right in the middle of a shopping area so parking is hit and miss, but you'll probably find yourself wondering into the other stores anyway. This place is as close to a hometown feel as you can find at Hilton Head. The friendly team, the regional items, the touristy stuff (t-shirts especially) just make it feel like you are hanging out with the locals.
