Thank goodness for Kristine's Kuts! My 15mo son has never had his hair cut by anyone except me, and we had a trimmer fiasco resulting in the need for a professional fix. Gary did a stellar job blending out the areas that I screwed up! He was so kind and patient. My son didn't cry, nor was he the least bit uncomfortable. He was excited to sit in the race car, and did much better than he usually does at home for his cuts. Thank you Kristine for fitting us in, and Gary for doing such a masterful job! read more

Kristine is always very friendly to my daughter during her cut. She engages in conversation with her and gets her input on what she would like to do. She is 11 and it I appreciate her talking to her vs just me. She has been going to Kristine for a few years now and have always had a good experience read more

Kristine's Kuts - After getting her hair cut with Kristine - Hair Salons Near Me - Lafayette, California

Been coming for years but finally posting a review. Of course Kristine (and Gary) give great haircuts to kids, but gentlemen, don't be fooled by the kiddie movies and toys: she gives really outstanding haircuts for guys, too. Being an inveterate autiste, I am indifferent to the social cues and tittering of the Lafayette moms, so I had no problem sitting in the chair after Kristine finished my son. Would not go anywhere else today, and I used to cross the bay bridge to go to my old barber. Seriously, dads. Give it a shot. read more

She's amazing, my kid was so afraid of haircuts after his first experience. But Kristine put him at ease from the first time and now looks forward to getting his hair done. Kids get to play before /after haircuts A lollipop (optional) And affordable read more

I found this place through a google search and had high hopes since the ratings were over 4 stars. It looked like a fun and exciting environment. So my son's grandmother took him to get a new hair style. He sat well, didn't wiggle around, and he had a good time with Kristine. She was friendly and the facilities were great, but the cut was awful. I'm incredibly disappointed with the quality of the work that was done. I don't mean to be harsh, but it looked like another kid took some scissors and hacked at my son's hair. The entire cut was uneven and looked absolutely nothing like the photo example she was shown. We never expect any cut to look exactly like the picture because everyone's hair is different, but this was ridiculous. We had to take him to a different salon to get it cleaned up and cut even shorter because of how uneven the cut was from Kristine. I hate to leave a bad review, but I couldn't let this go. No kid should leave a licensed facility looking like this. read more

Kristine was amazing! We took our 19 month old son for his first haircut. She took time to get him comfy and playing with the buttons on the toy car. We didn't have to hold him down. She was sharp and ready when he would suddenly turn his head. She was really great. The salon was clean. She only takes one client at a time. Appointment was well spaced since she cleaned in between. Definitely going back for his next ones. read more

Kristine was very nice and did a great job chatting with my 4 year old during the haircut. She was also very quick which any child appreciates. Lastly the salon had fun toys which kept my son very entertained after the haircut. read more

This was such a disappointing experience. Kristine didn't acknowledge us when we came in...not a huge deal but you could tell this was going to be a transactional experience. My 3 year old sat down and Kristine started to comb her hair and the moment my daughter was nervous and started to cry (this was her first haircut) she immediately jumped away from her and said "Well! I can't cut her hair if she's crying! Sorry, but I was going to give you a lollipop!" It was such a strong reaction, especially at a kids salon. She didn't give us a chance and was very cold. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who has a child who may need extra love and care for a haircut. read more

Super efficient and kept the kids entertained. Even our little one who hates haircuts was totally fine...

Cute little shop just perfect for getting my girls haircut! The atmosphere is great and Kristine is very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

Absolutely wonderful! First in salon haircut for our 2.5 year old son and he is a crier, screamer, you name it and she wasn't even phased by any of it and managed to do a great scissor cut and cleaned up his edges with clippers despite his tantrums. Definitely going to be returning regularly for his cuts from now on and I'm sure he will get used to it! Highly recommend. read more

If you have a "well behaved" child, then I think you will enjoy your experience here. Well behaved meaning a child that does exactly that's told, all smiles with no stranger anxiety. From the moment I stepped in, I didn't have a good vibe about the shop. I came early, and she ran late, which is fine, I can understand things happen, but there wasn't actually any acknowledgment of running behind, so I really could have sat there for 30 minutes without a word. My daughter has always been extremely shy, she has social anxiety so it takes a moment for her to get comfortable. I honestly didn't feel any genuineness coming from Kristine. She seemed impatient, unempathethic, and a little brash for someone that cuts hair for children. My daughter started crying and I felt like she was shaming her for being emotional. Obviously it didn't hurt to have her hair cut, but a 4 year old isn't going to be comfortable with a stranger manhandling her head to the right position within 30 seconds of encountering her. I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 because she got the job done as far as getting hair cut off so it's not like I walked out with no hair cut, just a very disappointing experience. I asked for a bob (or a-line bob). something that required technique but she automatically said it would likely not work since my daughter kept tilting her head (because she was crying). I feel like she could have at least tried, but shot down the idea likely because she didn't have time (there were walk ins) and again my daughter was what felt like just another kid on a chair making her $20. My daughter complained and said her nails were too long and scratched her ears during her hair cut, and to be honest, Kristine really did have way too long of nails especially when she's dealing with young children. Again, if you have a child who LOVES haircuts and kinda knows the drill, you'd probably be fine coming here, but if you're actually looking for a great experience, I wouldn't recommend Kristine's kuts read more

Trying to get kids hair cut. The website says they open at 9am. I'm here at 11:15am and it's closed. Their door says it opens at 11am but no one is here. I've experienced this previously with this business and it's disappointing to say the least. I left a message and got a call back around 11:25 from Kristine saying she could take us. I reluctantly returned. Kristine smelled like cigarette smoke and I should've left at that. But I didn't. I put my child up in the chair and she could not even get the apron on my 21 month old. She told me she would try to cut his hair without it on but she kept taking the razor near him and throwing her hands up saying "I don't want to start cutting his hair if he can't sit still!" She was horrible! She has no patience and has no idea how to interact and work with kids that aren't sitting perfectly still. I will never be back and wish I had never returned at the first sign of her unprofessionalism. read more

Kristine told us to come back at 1230 since she didn't have any openings. We came back and waited until about 1 PM. No one greeted us. Kristine kept looking at us but never acknowledged us. After 20 mins, she said "you guys are next" in a very matter of fact way. She ruined my experience as my son's first cut. Poor service. We won't be back. read more

Some businesses prompt you to write a review, and this is one of those instances. I work as a full time (temporary career) nanny and take care of 3 boys. The boys have been coming here for years. So I got dragged into taking them here. (I can't help but giggle to see her response of "new babysitter". But hey, considering I've been taking them every two months for the past year proves her ignorance for me. I don't give a shit if I'm not a parent. I'm still a person. Plus, I'm the one who takes them to Ms. Karen's now. Tough luck.) Tuesday I spoke to Gary and made an appointment with Kristine on Friday for 3 haircuts. My work schedule can be insane, I'm accustomed to confirmation calls, whatever. So, Friday arrived, my schedule was insane, I forgot the appointment. Kristine called, obviously irritated. So she complains, "It's a busy Friday. Blah blah blah. Can you give me their moms number? You're just the babysitter anyway-right? Well I'm booked the next few weeks so you better just call back later... Confirmation calls? No, we don't do that." Anyway, I never liked Kristine (or Gary) to begin with. They talk to parents, but never said much to me! Why are nannies disgraced? And it's stupid to ask me for the moms number when she's rarely been there (she doesn't go to haircut appts or schedule them so wtf? Not to mention Kristine miraculously finding her number to express her discontent with my review when she has my number). The shop is fine, it has a train table inside. It has chairs and magazines. But when you don't like the people-why deal with it? I actually feel liberated haha! They take cash or checks which is inconvenient. I'm checking out Ms. Karen's place on Tuesday so I hope to leave a better review for her! read more

When I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and spaciousness of this shop. My son also loved the train table in the back. However, beyond that, I wasn't blown away by my overall experience. Despite having no one else in the store, the owners acted too busy to say hello when we entered. At a year old, my son was particularly sensitive at that age. And while he doesn't usually love haircuts, he will usually tolerate them. This was the first time we brought him here and it was the first time he cried on the top of his lungs the entire time. You would think that someone in this business would be used to a crying baby but the hair stylist acted like it was the most repulsive thing she'd ever seen. In the end, she declared that "he's gonna hate having haircuts for a very long time". Well, that turned out not to be true because he's had excellent and uneventful haircuts ever since ....elsewhere. read more

Great hair cuts for my son who is 10 and my daughter who is 7. My son has super thick hair and likes it long in the front and we often end up w it way too short but Kristine did a great job. She was great w the kids too and had a movie on to distract them. read more

I was certain we'd be one of those families who take the kid to get a haircut and come home without a haircut. Or worse, half a haircut. But we took our 18 month old little guy here and somehow Kristine got it done!! She knows all the tricks and has all the distractions and it worked! She was quick and efficient and his haircut was adorable. Afterwards, our little guy played at the train table and we actually had to pry him out of there. I was shocked! And so pleased. We will definitely be back. read more

Love this place! I drove from Concord/Clayton to come here after reading reviews on the various kids salons. My daughter didn't want to get her hair cut but was completely oblivious to what was going on while she comfortably watched TV. A couple of hair bows an "pixie dust" in her hair, and what I thought would be a traumatizing event, turned into anything but!!! Thanks for the great and quick service!!! read more

I have taken my daughter to Gary at Kristine's Kuts about four times now (after i tried unsuccessfully to cut her bangs). She is a two year old whirlwind and she always lets Gary cut her hair while sitting in red car chair and watching videos. She doesn't want to leave with all the toys they have to play with and her hair just looks great. I waited until I had gone a few times to write the review to see if the magic would persist and it only seems to get stronger, I couldn't drag her our of there today. I also drive out from Oakland, and it's definitely worth the trip. Very easy to park too. read more

It was my 3 year old girl's first hair cut. Kristine did a beautiful job and consulted with us about how it would be done. Our daughter was comfy and happy the entire time. She also agreed to give our son a great, impromptu clip, as her next appointment was a little late. The only slight drawback was that Gary, who otherwise seems to be fabulous, would not let our little girl (who called it first) use the race car chair as "little boys like cars, girls like frogs." Wrong! Still 5 stars though, as both Kristine and Gary appear to be great with kids and do a fine job. read more
