This hair salon is located close from the freeway exit, very easy to find. They also have designated parking spots out front. The lobby is gorgeous, they have an area to put on a robe to avoid staining clothes. The receptionist was very professional, kind with a beautiful energy, and also offered me something to drink while waiting. I book my hair appointments with Josh T. and he is such an angel! Truly feel at peace when I get my hair done knowing he fully understands the vibe and reasoning behind the things im requesting. I usually just get a trim and all black hair color so nothing too complicated lol but today I decided to get layers after 10+ years! It came out gorgeous & I'm very happy with my new change. I never have any concerns, worries, regrets when working with Josh. He is very clear in communication, asks questions and answers all of mine without any issues. He always offers something to drink too which is just a little extra hospitality that is so much appreciated. I also booked Josh for my wedding hair color appointment, and he got me looking beautiful and ready for the big day. I get a lot of compliments on the dark black hair color and on how healthy my hair is but I couldn't do it without him. Thanks to Josh for giving me the best hair service, hair care tips, & bringing my hair back to life every time I come in. read more

Beautiful little salon above one of my favorite restaurants in Lafayette. Check in and out is so simple. The atmosphere is inviting, bright, and awakening. It's always clean and there is a coffee and tea section while you wait with Madeline cookies (yum) I see Bethany for my hair and she's incredible. From her personality to her capability and talent. You want to look like and feel like goddess? Book her for your next self care day! read more

This review is long overdue for Katherine Perkins. She is literally a wizard with scissors. She has a Lyle following and she was highly recommended by one of my professional colleagues. This may have been my best haircut ever. I wanted curtain bangs and a lot of length chopped off and she delivered. Appointments are easy to make through their online booking system. It's hard to get an appointment with Katherine so make sure you book in advance. The salon is nice and clean and in downtown Lafayette, plenty of parking. They have Kerastase and Oribe products too! read more

Updated - as I see the commentary of my previous review. Unfortunately, the service team poorly handled my case. They had my mom pay for the service half way through my appointment instead of at the end of my appointment. I had questioned this at the counter when I was going to pay for my treatment only to be informed that my mom covered the bill with multiple texts from my mom asking if I was done at the salon 2 hours prior to being finished. I can see everyone else was allowed to pay for their service at the end of their appointment. This is a salon that I will continue to not recommend for people of color or curly hair. read more

Bethany was fantastic. She listened to what I wanted, explained my options, and the color turned out beautiful. My hair looks healthy and shiny. Also, credit to Sami for a great shampoo and blowout--she did such a nice job. Highly recommend if you want a team that's super friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. read more

Stop searching and start booking Michele S.! If you're anything like me, you've had your fair share of bad haircuts, and dated coloring techniques. I had all but given up until I did my research and found Michele. I can't explain the relief of showing a hairdresser a picture and she just gets it! If you're searching for a hairdresser who's up to date with the latest trends/techniques, Michele knows what she's doing. If you're a first timer, she'll take her time explaining, and ask YOUR input. My experience from beginning to check out made me feel good I made the right decision coming here. Check out her Instagram: @micheleskinner_hair If you're still on the fence--after I saw my hair, I cried. Except for the first time in my life it was from joy, not disappointment. Bethany Kiyoi is amazing and I love this salon! I was recommended to Bethany by two different friends after not finding the right stylist after moving to SF. Bethany listens to what I want and gives advice when I'm undecided. She is so talented at taking inspiration images and visions and bringing them to life in the way that works best for your hair and keeps it healthy. At my most recent appointment, I switched things up a bit in preparation for my wedding and she helped me figure out exactly what would look good for the hairstyle I'll have on the big day. I travel from SF for her and would HIGHLY recommend her!! read more

I was in search of a new stylist as the one that I was seeing somewhere else was on maternity leave and all their senior stylists were booked out for months. I searched on Yelp and came across Citizen Salon and I made an appointment with Michele S. based on all her great reviews. Well I have to say that Michele gave me the best cut I have ever had in my life! I'm serious! It was that good. I have curly hair and she was able to give me a precision cut that looks fantastic when I blow dry my hair out. I can also wear it curly and it still looks great. The salon is very nice and clean and everyone is super friendly. I also like the products they carry. I'm so happy to have found Citizen Salon and Michele! read more

I saw Michele S. for the second time this week for a fantastic correction and root touchup. She's obviously got a knack for color and corrected my overprocessed, long, neglected hair. She also gave me an excellent cut a few weeks prior, trimming off some 2 inches of damage. Michele is super easy to talk to and has great styling advice as well. read more

6 yrs ago Citizen Salon was recommended to me by a close friend and I never looked back. Casual vibe, clean elegance & offers simple, but much appreciated client amenities. All the stars for my girl Georgi! After searching forever for a stylist I'm so happy I found her. She is not only incredibly gifted with cuts and color, but she's a lovely person and I enjoy her company so much! She has an amazing eye, uses the best products, and I always leave feeling a huge confidence boost. Whether I want a big change or just a trim, she nails it every time and my hair is so soft, thick, and healthy now that I see her consistently. Not to mention the atmosphere at Citizen is gorgeous, open, clean and bright. Everyone is so friendly and sweet. So glad I found Georgi and Citizen Salon! read more

Absolutely LOVE the aesthetic and vibe of this salon - it's located on the second floor and makes you feel like you're in a tree house. I go to Bethany for my color and always leave the salon feeling like the prettiest lil thing. She's truly such a gifted artist (inside and outside the salon) and her color theory is on point. I also love how she talks me through all my requests letting me know how my hair will feel, if it's high maintenance or not, etc. No matter where I move, I will always fly back in to see Bethany. :) read more

Michele Skinner literally saved Christmas for my daughter. We walked into the salon the evening of Dec. 23rd after a bad color job from another stylist in Walnut Creek (Glitter Haus of Hair). Michele took one look at my daughter's messed up hair and knew exactly what to do. Michele was even ready to go home and offered to stay late so that she could fix my daughter's hair. What's more amazing is that Michele was able to transform my daughter's hair into something she hated into something she absolutely loves. We are forever grateful for Michelle's talent and kindness. I cannot be more thankful that I went to Morgan for my haircut!!! About six months ago I went to a friend for my haircut. My hair was past my low back and it was cut to just under my jawline. It was pretty drastic and didn't seem to fit my face as well as I had hoped for. Fast forward to today, I told Morgan I grew out my hair as much as I could. I wanted to keep as much length as possible, get rid of the layers, and fix the uneven sections. Morgan delivered exactly what I was hoping for! She made everything proportionate, was able to blend the uneven sections beautifully, and gave me a long slight A line that fits my face really well. I could NOT be happier with my new hair. On top of the great haircut, she provided great service and was incredible friendly :) Definitely recommend for everyone to go to Morgan for anything haircut/styling related! Went the salon for a cut and highlights with Michele for the first time. I texted with Michele ahead of my appointment to share photos and talk about my hair and my goals. I am so happy with how my hair turned out. She blended my early grays so seamlessly and my cut is fresh and livable while still keeping most of the length. Best of all, Michele is a kind and wonderful person. She will immediately put you at ease and make you feel so comfortable. The salon is also really beautiful with a happy vibe and great views. Basically when Missy's magical hands touch your hair, you instantly know the guru is going to create pure magic. Years before I had been on the hunt for a someone who fully comprehended how to enhance your personal style and all the while teaching you tricks and products that would make life easier. Missy has been my stylist for 5 years now and there is no one else I would let touch my locks. She simply just gets it. So much so that I don't have to tell her anymore what I want, I just trust her whole heartedly to make me feel brand new and taken care of every time. She also did my hair for engagement photos and wedding and I could not have been happier. Most importantly she an amazing human being that has crazy talent with a huge heart. I went into Citizen Salon today (9/16/2020), to see Michael R. for some fun and exciting colors, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! My visit started with a consultation, going over both of our ideas for my hair, what I was/wasn't comfortable with, colors, and style. Once we figured out the plan, the process began! Michael was very patient and attentive the entire time I was at the salon, checking in with me to make sure I was satisfied every step of the way. I am still in disbelief at how beautiful my hair turned out, as are my friends and family! I highly recommend you go visit Michael if you are looking to stand out, or just need a color/cut. I go to the local college and was struggling finding a new salon I could visit while away at school and came across citizen! They are great!! The ambiance of the salon is lovely. When you check in you are led to a waiting room area where you put on a silk robe to protect your clothes with complimentary refreshments. The decor is all very aesthetic as well. My stylist was Lauren and she was just amazing! Super friendly and did an awesome job too. She gave me great product recommendations that would work for my hair type as well as my budget which was super helpful. I recommend Citizen Salon for anyone in the area looking for a new hairdresser! read more

So Yelp took down my review - possibly because they think I'm a bot, but I'm a living, breathing customer who has now seen Michele twice. My original review is below, but I will just add that I saw her again today and she did an incredible job not only on my color, but also on my haircut. Thank you, Michele! Original Review: Michele is a color rock star. In fact, she is a lived-in hair color specialist. I am so blown away by her skill and deep knowledge (especially for such a young person) and I'm so glad to be a client now before she inevitably blows up and is impossible to get an appointment with! I was desperate to correct the platinum dye job I had gotten from a different salon (nothing feels quite as bad as paying a ton for a really unsatisfactory product) and I just wanted to return to my dark blonde roots/honey highlights. Michele spent FOUR hours diligently correcting every strand of my hair, talking me through her process, and making sure I was comfortable with everything she was doing. I paid Michele the same amount for the work I hated, so I think her prices are actually really great because she took so much more time and care in the work she did and the outcome was stunning. I am so happy with my hair and I honestly can't wait to go back! Thank you, Michele! Also, Citizen is gorgeous. Great vibes and beautiful products for sale too! read more

My stylist Michelle came to Citizen Salon so, of course, I followed her! I live in Walnut Creek and I don't feel like that's too far to drive for such good care. Michelle is the best she always listens to what I want and takes time to discuss it. She made me instantly feel comfortable in "my new place for hair care". I love the location and the view because it is upstairs with a view of the Lafayette hills and downtown Lafayette. It is near shopping, restaurants and coffee shops (my ideal world)! The parking is easy with a lot behind that is free, in front with a parking app ($3.00 for a daily rate) and street parking with meters if needed. Thank you Michelle for being such a great stylist. See you again soon! read more

Michael is talented and knows his craft well. He made me feel very comfortable about going platinum, walking me through different options and educating me on reasons for doing things a particular way. As an empathetic person, he is sure to explain his intent behind an action, and ease any concerns you may have. When I ended up having to cut our appointment short, Michael was accommodating and patient, holding his composure well in an otherwise very stressful situation. See Michael if you are looking to go blonde or eager to explore an adventurous new look. If you want an innovative and creative stylist with a passion for what they do, he's the guy! read more

Use to have an amazing stylist in San Francisco for years. After coming out to east bay, i tired of the commute to SF for just a haircut. Beth is the best. Leaves you looking your best and always brightens your day. Can't wait for my next cut.

I've had the absolute best experiences with Bethany at Citizen Salon! I came to Bethany with yellow-ish highlights that were pretty horrible and she used her balayage magic to revive my hair into a gorgeous blonde color again. She also taught me how to use purple toning shampoo to keep my locks looking blonde, not yellow (why has no one ever else mentioned that in 20+ years of highlights?!). Most recently, thanks to shelter-in-place, I went almost 18 weeks without a touch up and the outgrowth is fantastic. I've had people ask how I got such a natural ombre look because they thought I'd done this on purpose. It's just another testament to Bethany's talent. read more

Citizen Salon is beautifully designed and has really good light. It's modern and trendy and super pleasant. Plus there is a parking area, not metered! Yay! Michele did my hair color (expertly done highlights, which I am loving) and, more recently, she did a haircut for me. She is delightful and very skilled at hair color! When she did my haircut, I was a little unsure about exactly what I wanted (which is typical for me). She was really patient while we talked through some reference photos I had on my phone. She went a bit conservative, but assured me if I wanted it shorter after trying it out for a couple weeks or so, she would trim it some more at no charge. A couple weeks later, I sent more pictures and wanted it shorter... but a lot shorter, really dramatic. When Michele saw what styles I was looking at, she felt it was outside of what she was able to do and still have the results up to the standard she expects of herself. She suggested I see someone that specializes in the kind of choppy, shorter hair styling I was proposing. Now, think about how professional that is. She could have faked it, but she was honest about her area of specialty. She really wanted to make sure I would end up happy. However I decided I wanted her to do another haircut for me anyway, and I asked her to just trim and layer it a bit more instead of the dramatic stuff I had been thinking of. She was confident that would be in her wheelhouse for sure. When we were done, I loved my haircut, and I was ready to pay her for it, since I felt like I was so unsure about what I wanted the first time... this second round seemed like more than a small trim. But she wouldn't let me pay even when I tried to insist. Not only is Michele professional, she is also nice to be around. We go to a salon not only to have our hair done. We also go to relax, have someone care for us, and listen to our stuff. Michele is awesome at all of it. Go and see her for your next hair color or haircut. (And if you want a cut not in her set of specialized skills, she will refer you to someone in that area.) I appreciate that kind of integrity. Thank you Michele! read more

I broke my COVID haircut fast with Joshua Torres, who made my thick/fine/wavy hair bounce back to life! He used several techniques I'd never seen before. One was to give me the most subtle layers in front for lift, which totally worked. Then, as he was blow drying each very thin horizontal layer, he would razor cut it. This thinned out my rather thick hair, so it's now able to wave up on itself as it dries naturally. He spent over an hour attending to my hair, even keeping his next customer waiting for a few minutes so he could get it right. And the total was $90! (plus tip, of course.) I could not be happier, and will definitely return to Joshua for more waves in the future! read more

I have been seeing Agnes for few years now and followed her to Citizen Salon. I usually do haircut and color with Agnes, as she does great job with both. She is very receptive to new ideas and give honest opinion about what style will suit your head and face shape. What I like the most about Agnes, is that she truly cares about the health of your hair and makes sure that any unnecessary treatment is avoided. She has also been very respectful during two of my pregnancies, when I decided not to color my hair and go only with haircuts.
