The lobby is gorgeous, they have an area to put on a robe to avoid staining clothes. The receptionist was very professional, kind with a beautiful energy, and also offered me something to drink while waiting. I book my hair appointments with Josh T. and he is such an angel! Truly feel at peace when I get my hair done knowing he fully understands the vibe and reasoning behind the things im requesting. I usually just get a trim and all black hair color so nothing too complicated lol but today I decided to get layers after 10+ years! It came out gorgeous & I'm very happy with my new change. I never have any concerns, worries, regrets when working with Josh. He is very clear in communication, asks questions and answers all of mine without any issues. He always offers something to drink too which is just a little extra hospitality that is so much appreciated. I also booked Josh for my wedding hair color appointment, and he got me looking beautiful and ready for the big day. This may have been my best haircut ever. I wanted curtain bangs and a lot of length chopped off and she delivered. Appointments are easy to make through their online booking system. It's hard to get an appointment with Katherine so make sure you book in advance. The salon is nice and clean and in downtown Lafayette, plenty of parking. Updated - as I see the commentary of my previous review. Unfortunately, the service team poorly handled my case. They had my mom pay for the service half way through my appointment instead of at the end of my appointment. I had questioned this at the counter when I was going to pay for my treatment only to be informed that my mom covered the bill with multiple texts from my mom asking if I was done at the salon 2 hours prior to being finished. I can see everyone else was allowed to pay for their service at the end of their appointment. This is a salon that I will continue to not recommend for people of color or curly hair. read more

I cannot be more thankful that I went to Morgan for my haircut!!! About six months ago I went to a friend for my haircut. My hair was past my low back and it was cut to just under my jawline. It was pretty drastic and didn't seem to fit my face as well as I had hoped for. Fast forward to today, I told Morgan I grew out my hair as much as I could. I wanted to keep as much length as possible, get rid of the layers, and fix the uneven sections. Morgan delivered exactly what I was hoping for! So Yelp took down my review - possibly because they think I'm a bot, but I'm a living, breathing customer who has now seen Michele twice. My original review is below, but I will just add that I saw her again today and she did an incredible job not only on my color, but also on my haircut. Thank you, Michele! Original Review: Michele is a color rock star. In fact, she is a lived-in hair color specialist. I am so blown away by her skill and deep knowledge (especially for such a young person) and I'm so glad to be a client now before she inevitably blows up and is impossible to get an appointment with! I was desperate to correct the platinum dye job I had gotten from a different salon (nothing feels quite as bad as paying a ton for a really unsatisfactory product) and I just wanted to return to my dark blonde roots/honey highlights. Michele spent FOUR hours diligently correcting every strand of my hair, talking me through her process, and making sure I was comfortable with everything she was doing. I paid Michele the same amount for the work I hated, so I think her prices are actually really great because she took so much more time and care in the work she did and the outcome was stunning. My stylist Michelle came to Citizen Salon so, of course, I followed her! I live in Walnut Creek and I don't feel like that's too far to drive for such good care. Michelle is the best she always listens to what I want and takes time to discuss it. She made me instantly feel comfortable in "my new place for hair care". I love the location and the view because it is upstairs with a view of the Lafayette hills and downtown Lafayette. It is near shopping, restaurants and coffee shops (my ideal world)! I've had the absolute best experiences with Bethany at Citizen Salon! I came to Bethany with yellow-ish highlights that were pretty horrible and she used her balayage magic to revive my hair into a gorgeous blonde color again. She also taught me how to use purple toning shampoo to keep my locks looking blonde, not yellow (why has no one ever else mentioned that in 20+ years of highlights?!). Most recently, thanks to shelter-in-place, I went almost 18 weeks without a touch up and the outgrowth is fantastic. Citizen Salon is beautifully designed and has really good light. It's modern and trendy and super pleasant. Plus there is a parking area, not metered! Yay! Michele did my hair color (expertly done highlights, which I am loving) and, more recently, she did a haircut for me. She is delightful and very skilled at hair color! When she did my haircut, I was a little unsure about exactly what I wanted (which is typical for me). She was really patient while we talked through some reference photos I had on my phone. She went a bit conservative, but assured me if I wanted it shorter after trying it out for a couple weeks or so, she would trim it some more at no charge. A couple weeks later, I sent more pictures and wanted it shorter... but a lot shorter, really dramatic. When Michele saw what styles I was looking at, she felt it was outside of what she was able to do and still have the results up to the standard she expects of herself. She suggested I see someone that specializes in the kind of choppy, shorter hair styling I was proposing. Now, think about how professional that is. She could have faked it, but she was honest about her area of specialty. She really wanted to make sure I would end up happy. However I decided I wanted her to do another haircut for me anyway, and I asked her to just trim and layer it a bit more instead of the dramatic stuff I had been thinking of. She was confident that would be in her wheelhouse for sure. When we were done, I loved my haircut, and I was ready to pay her for it, since I felt like I was so unsure about what I wanted the first time... this second round seemed like more than a small trim. But she wouldn't let me pay even when I tried to insist. Not only is Michele professional, she is also nice to be around. We go to a salon not only to have our hair done. We also go to relax, have someone care for us, and listen to our stuff. Michele is awesome at all of it. Go and see her for your next hair color or haircut. I broke my COVID haircut fast with Joshua Torres, who made my thick/fine/wavy hair bounce back to life! He used several techniques I'd never seen before. One was to give me the most subtle layers in front for lift, which totally worked. Then, as he was blow drying each very thin horizontal layer, he would razor cut it. This thinned out my rather thick hair, so it's now able to wave up on itself as it dries naturally. He spent over an hour attending to my hair, even keeping his next customer waiting for a few minutes so he could get it right. And the total was $90! (plus tip, of course.)
