Havening techniques and other techniques have helped me (someone who defaults to over-intellectualizing) get out of my head and into my body which I've found is imperative for healing emotional trauma. With all that said I'm really here to share my experience with the Neurofeedback training done with Rebecca Turner. Having done so much healing and reprocessing through talk therapy, I still felt that my thought patterns were like a hose turned all the way up, whipping around, unable to catch, and control, soaking everyone around me. The initial brain mapping (which is done first to know what areas of the brain to target for training) reflected with tangible data what I was experiencing inside. Ms. Turner described it to me like "your two hemispheres are yelling at each other" which turned out to be one of the most validating things my brain has ever heard about itself. The neurofeedback training process itself is not as complicated and/or intimidating as the name sounds. If one is doing eyes open training, you essentially attach some small sensors to your head using a conductive goop and watch a tv show while the screen brightens and dims in response to the information collected by the sensors and neurofeedback program. For "eyes closed" training, you listen to lyric-less music while the music adjusts the volume to help train your brain. And it all works. I feel good about myself. Shame is now a passing emotion instead of a state of being. Rumination is down ten-fold as my hemispheres aren't "yelling at each other". My thoughts and feelings don't control me as much and/or send my on a downward spiral. If you are someone who feels your emotions are often become too much for you to handle that even standard therapy couldn't alone help, might I suggest neurofeedback?

After so many years without counseling, I found myself on auto-pilot making routine apathy-driven mistakes. When my friend gave me ten sessions as a birthday present, I was not very grateful. Why? Before I went I thought it would be a waste of time. Hypnotherapy always struck me as pseudoscience. But I very quickly changed my mind, and hope I can pass on my positive experience to other people. I have now seen Mayumi six times, and I am both surprised and happy with the results. Having never been to a hypnotherapist before, I didn't know quite what to expect. I didn't know if it would be the kind of hypnosis I have seen on stage shows where people go into a trance and then am programmed to do things. That would have been weird and not something with which I would even feel comfortable doing. That seems like a scam, and who knows what I might be told to do. But that was not my experience with Mayumi. In our first session we spent an hour talking about my needs: to be more focused, quit smoking, relief from headaches. We also discussed my expectations: to see results within a realistic but reasonably quick amount of time. But I also didn't expect to be "cured" in two or three sessions. At the end of our session, we still did then a hypnotherapy session. So my first visit (an hour-long appointment) was closer to an hour-and-a-half. That was my introduction. We then spend the session doing hypnotherapy, which involves Mayumi gently guiding me through visualizations and different thought processes. I am awake during the whole time, but I can only describe my state as one of deep relaxation, where I am open to change through her guided spoken words. My relaxed state creates an openness and desire to change. Relaxing music is in the background but it was special music that moves me into a state of relaxation, where my brainwaves are open to the exercises...but where I was in control to the point where I could stop if I wanted. Mayumi would bring me back to the exercises if my mind wandered, but also told me it was okay for my mind to wander, at which point I would gently bring it back to our session. So, as I said, I have now been to see Mayumi six times. I have stopped smoking for just over a month(!), I feel calmer, and have also noticed that I can focus for longer periods of time. I can devote my mind to the task at hand, and get less easily distracted. I am not "fixed," and I am by no means trouble free, but I can see notable and tangible differences in the specific areas we have worked on. Mayumi also taught me exercises to do at home to augment the things we do in our sessions. Really, I know it is all about the time and effort I put into this change process, and how open and willing I am to work with Mayumi. Hypnotherapy is not a mind-programming thing, but it is a mind reorientation, if I choose to act on it. It is like a partnership (in change,) as is any successful interaction with another person. This is a long review because I wanted to explain and convey to others the positive experience I have had. I hope you will get as much out of the hypnotherapy with Mayumi as I have.
