Well seasoned, perfectly grilled meat, juicy----genuinely I hadn't eaten a burger this good in a long time (and as a Texan, I'm pretty picky on my beef and burgers.) Now, I've spent a lot of time in Topeka, and I know that there is a good deal of poverty, and homelessness downtown. I wasn't fully ready for how much the homeless population relies on this McDonald's location. Once inside there were mostly folks loitering that were without shelter, nestled near the restrooms. These folks were not causing any issue, it just took me by surprise. I'm grateful that they feel safe here and that McDonalds is allowing the to use their restroom (and potentially giving them a coffee here or there), but the environment wasn't the most family friendly for my little one. That being said, we ordered, used the restroom (which was clean), and sat down next to a few other families that had clearly also just come from Paw Patrol Live. There are signs all over the place saying you can only sit for a certain amount of time, likely because of the unhoused population in this part of Topeka, which was striking to me as I'd never seen anything like that before. At any rate, our food came out fast, and my daughter was giddy with excitement over her hamburger. We ate, and went on our way with no issue.
