I've cast my jaundiced eye on Krispies for at least 20 years, but never stopped in because of the dicey nature of the neighborhood. But after reading +ive reviews here, I decided to give it a try. Got carryout this morning. There is a small shared parking lot in front. The parking lot is short and narrow, with 1 entrance from Parker Street, and 1 exit to Williamsburg Road, and angled spaces that make it awkward to use the wrong egress/ingress. I stopped in about 10 am, and parking was not a problem at that time. Inside were 3 Asian men; the one I interacted with was pleasant. I ordered food: Fried Chicken Breast, $2.29 x 2 Small (5) Hush Puppies, $1.49 Back at home I delved into the Hush Puppies first, and they were excellent. On to the Fried Chicken Breast. It was good. Apparently had not been under the heat lamps long, because it was quite juicy and not dried at all. Good flavor. Good breading. The meat itself was somewhat tough. I wouldn't return for fried chicken, but I'm sure I'll be tempted to get some more Hush Puppies and try their other sides.

Special Combo-3 wings, 3 shrimp, whiting, wedges and bun $6.99
Ashley T.

Nice little hood chicken spot-nothing gourmet. Can't be the price. I got the $6.99 special combo that came with whiting, wings, shrimp, and wedges -as well as a Mumbo sauce (Not DC style but still good) At first glance it looks like everything is fried in the same batter. The wings were good and well seasoned -great with the sauce. The shrimp was ok too. The potato wedges were very bland but after getting home and throwing some season salt and utilizing the mambo sauce they were actually OK. The whiting was Just OK as well-very fishy and the batter was tasteless and didn't make a difference. After putting it on the bun with a little bit of tartar sauce Much better. Only three stars because I had to take it home and doctor it a bit to my likings but for under $8 and the amount of food-I can't complain. Food came out in about 10 minutes and was hot.

Chicken nuggets, the best!

I want to start by saying that when I do a food review, I try to be as understanding and objective…read moreas possible. I am kind and generous in my critique and try to maintain a professional decorum. With that said, I ordered four pieces of Whiting, sweet potato fries, green beans, and three chicken thighs. All of it was garbage!!! I expected four normal-sized pieces of fish, but instead, I received cut-bite-sized fish. The grease that was used to fry this fish was not fresh. My chicken thighs looked and tasted like they had been cooked some days ago. I received approximately 11 fries, and the green beans came straight out of the can with no seasoning. I understand that we live in trying times, but this is ridiculous. Usually, I would give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but I can honestly say this is a one-and-done for me.

Well, this is quite the way from me but I made it and they did not disappoint. If you like Dave's…read morehot chicken or the croaker spot, this is for you. Let's talk about the food y'all. Not the best area but the food is INCREDIBLE. From the Nashville sliders to the shrimp Po boy and the fish. It was all so good. The service was fast even though they were super busy. It also looks like they get a lot of to go orders. I started off with the fish and shrimp platter. I'm not sure what that's called but the fish was fresh, fried to perfection. Shrimp was also really good, pairs well with tar tar sauce. The shrimp Po boy was my favorite. The sauce on it was SO GOOD, the bread was incredibly fresh. 20/10 for the Po boy. The manage habanero shrimp was super spicy but so good. The fried oysters was a unique menu item. Good as well. The sliders, we customized and got one hot honey and one Nashville hot. Both delicious. Also come with fries and I love a good fry. The wacky whiting sandwich was a fun and delicious item as well. Perfect for fish lovers that are looking for something more. The loaded Mac and cheese was so good as well. Lastly we had the funnel fries and it was a unique touch and was so good! The decor is cute but I don't love that it's attached to the gas station. Overall, the food was extremely good and definitely recommend if you are in the area.

When i did get my food, holy crap! It was fresh, hot, very flavorful without being heavily salted. Their wings are probably some of the best ive had in richmond so far. Let's just say side chic is about to be my main chic when it comes to wings now (had the lemon pepper wet). Also really enjoyed the fried catfish and the green beans. Potato salad was pretty good, on the sweeter side but not too much. The mac and cheese they had to make a fresh batch of so the flavors didnt have time to come together, and it was more saucy than baked - which i was hoping for. But they were cool about taking it back, and asked for feedback. Great playlist. Small spot which i appreciate. Will DEFINITELY be back!!

Four of us were at a convention a couple blocks away this past weekend, and by 12 PM, we were ready…read moreto take a break and hunt for food. Side Chic was the only restaurant nearby with consistently high reviews, and we couldn't say no to fried chicken. We were seated upon arrival, but it took a long time for the server to take our orders and even longer for the food to arrive. Initially, we planned to split two orders of the 8-piece tenders, but they forgot to put in one of them, so only one arrived about 45 minutes after we sat down. By then, we were itching to go back to our convention, so we all just shared the one platter. 8 PC TENDERS W LARGE FRIES AND 2 CORN BREAD - 21 We were so hungry that we didn't even take a picture of our food. The chicken tenders were incredibly hot and fresh off the frying station. The breading was well-seasoned with variety of spices and had a nice kick to it, while the chicken itself was juicy. The tenders were simple and humble, but I genuinely thought they were one of the best tenders I've ever had. We got sides of ranch, honey mustard, and barbecue sauce to enjoy them in. The fries were okay -- on the soggy side with a bit of seasoning that didn't do much for them. The cornbread was lightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon (?), but we had to send one back after finding a piece of hair in it. While waiting for food, two of us ordered sweet tea, and "sweet" was an understatement. It was a soul-jolting, system-rebooting experience -- my eyes practically flung open before the tea made it down my throat. This stuff worked faster and harder than caffeine. The sweet tea is indeed sweet and not for the weak (like myself). There were two servers and, from what we could tell, maybe one chef in the back, so I can understand why things were moving slowly. Still, the forgotten order and hair in the cornbread made for a pretty rough experience. Our group had mixed thoughts about Side Chic, but acknowledged it was probably a bad day for the restaurant and staff.
