This will be my new go to pet store. Staff is helpful, warm and friendly. I brought my puppy in with me to get a collar. They had exactly what I needed and a great selection of food. A staff member took the time to get down and greet my puppy and was really friendly and conversational. I brought my puppy in to try collars on but was also wanting to socialize him with people. I wish I got her name, but this staff member made my visit really great, and she was so helpful. Other staff there were equally friendly and helpful. We just got a nice bath with the all the works including teeth brushing, ear cleaning, nail trim and anti itch aloe treatment). My fluffers was pampered for 2 hours and when she came out she was so proud of herself. She smells great and her coat is very soft. They really did a great job. I am so glad that this type of pet store has made its way to Vernon Hills. This is what Vernon Hills has been missing! This store carries an excellent selection of natural food and supplies for your pets. I was so happy to see some of the cat food that I had purchased at some pet stores in the city available for purchase here. My cat is a picky eater and doesn't like a lot of wet food. I finally found a brand that she likes (Weruva), which they carry here in both the pouch and canned version. I'm glad to have found some many different types of this food that I know she will enjoy. The food does cost a lot more than Fancy Feast and Friskies, but I think it is worth it because the quality of the ingredients is a lot better and they don't use any by-products. Also, the food is grain free and BPA free. I really think that everyone should consider feeding their pets better food since it may help out their health in the long run. They also carry a small selection of cat toys and some of them were made with organic catnip. Also, make sure to check out the free samples section. You can take a maximum of three samples for your pet. I picked up some dry food for my cat to try. The store employees are super friendly and very helpful. The shop is clean, bright and inviting. I also love seeing all the cute dogs in the shop! They also offer grooming for dogs and cats. If you don't want to trim your cats nails, you can bring him/her here and they will do it for $10. There is also a woman who grooms cats and will give your cat a bath if it needs it. Overall, I am highly impressed with this pet shop and definitely will be returning! read more

Been going to Krisers for 6 years and won't be back. My dog barked at the groomer like he always does and she refused service because he barked at her. I would be completely shocked if a dog never barked at a groomer before. My dog is a big teddy bear and wouldn't hurt a soul. They could look at his records and see he has been there hundreds of times with zero issues. Very disappointed as we waited over a month for an appointment and over 30 minutes this morning. read more

I brought my two dogs in to get their nails filed down. I've only had great experiences with this store in the past, but this time was different. They first told me they do not take dogs over 35 pounds. (Thankfully my two are just under that). They require proof of rabies vaccination and called my vet to verify. That is all well and good. They also require you to fill out a lengthy agreement and liability form, which is understandable but this all took about 20 minutes before they could actually do my dog's nails. I called 45 minutes in advance and they promised me they would call my vet and have everything ready before I arrived, but the did not. I was annoyed but understanding. The thing that really made me angry was the groomer was very rude and my dogs looked miserable while she was filling their nails. She was pulling their legs in awkward positions that they should not have been pulled in. When they were finished, the nails were jagged and not filled smoothly. The groomer was clearly annoyed with me not having the paperwork for rabies but I did call in advance and they assured me they would contact my vet. I will not be coming back to this location and wish I could have my money back. read more

Had a great experience getting my dog groomed today. Dropped her off and the groomer put me at ease and recommended services for her shedding problem. No pressure to add anything, but I went for the furminator package. Exactly 2 hours later, I got a phone call saying she was ready. I got a tremendous value with the 25% off for first time grooming. Even without the 25% off I feel it is a good value. The groomer was very nice and my dog came out looking beautiful and happy. She's not shedding!! I would definitely recommend their grooming services. In addition, all the staff was very nice and helpful. Two paws up! read more

I have a dog who I thought didn't mind getting her nails cut, but it turns out that she only doesn't mind when we go to Krisers! I have tried taking her to other groomers in the area and she will cower between the front and back seats in the car, back out of her collar while in the parking lot and snap/snarl at other groomers. I'm not sure what it is about Krisers that makes getting her nails more tolerable, but I don't question it. She willingly runs in to the store, acts like I'm taking her to her death while she walks to the back with the groomer and then stands still for the 5 minutes it takes to cut/grind her nails. The price is reasonable ($10/cut - more for grid) and I haven't been able to find anything cheaper in the area. We go every two weeks (3 years ago we were in Lincoln Park and went to Krisers there, then we moved North and went to the one in Wilmette, for the past 2 months we have been going to Vernon Hills) and the groomer and staff members are always extremely friendly and beginning to recognize us when we walk in the door! NOTE: The only reason I don't get her fully groomed here is because she is short-haired (no need to cut/trim) and willingly walks in to the bathtub when she is dirty. Also, we have bought tons of delicious treats and wonderful toys at Krisers. If your dog is super active and very curious, ask them about their smart toys to keep dogs challenged! read more

Every time I have brought my dog in here they have cut the dog the way I specifically asked them not to. I didn't take it personally ever I simply had them correct what they did wrong and every time they were willing to provide said customer service. Today I called to schedule an appointment only to be told they don't feel comfortable grooming my dog because "I'm never satisfied" when all I have ever asked for is they don't give my dog a poodle cut. When I called today I was told they were under the impression there was a mutual decision to part ways and that I had called the manager a c**t. I've never been treated so grossly unprofessionally and I would never let anyone I know leave their pets in the hands of such grossly disgusting people. read more

Finished with Kriser's for sure now! Manager saw us browsing the store asked if he could help. Explained we have two small 5 pound Chihuahuas who we normally buy No Hide rawhides for. Only we're afraid they're going to choke on them. What else would you recommend for them? He suggested food maze or puzzles in the shape of a UFO. After giving it to the girls the maze was already chewed up and rubber was eating off on the edge where the food goes in. Which was made out of rubber. Brought it back to the store about 3 hours later. Manager was in the restroom cashier said and she can't do returns with out him. While waiting at the register she helped the lady behind us and did a return attempting to give her money back on a gift card lady got pissed off and ended up getting her cash back. Then cashier looks for manager who now is not in the building, but away on lunch. Then she calls and can't reach the manager. She then says she'll just do the return. Then the manager calls her back and said okay to the return after hassling us about never doing a return again for any other items. Then I inquired about what happens to the $10 rewards I used she never answered my question and just continually repeated herself while staring me down you'll get what you paid back on your card then adds a giggle. I asked again besides the money I paid what happens to the rewards and she again repeats your getting your money back while laughing. Two customers behind just look on, until the one yells Merry Christmas. Then once my receipt is printing cashier says your getting the $10 rewards back on your card too. Hands me the receipt continues to slam the dog maze in the bag with the box and the original receipt. Finishes with have a nice day. I've NEVER been happier to be done with a place. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR DOGS GROOMED HERE! Set an appointment over a week ago, still took over 3 hours for them to get it done and they DESTROYED my gorgeous Australian Shepherd! It looks like they gave a 3 yr old a pair of and scissors and cut them loose with my dog. Did I mention it's 3° outside and they gave her back still wet! Clearly whoever does the grooming there is not licensed and should never be allowed near another animal. I'm so upset and all I'm left to do is pray her hair grows back so I can get her to a real groomer. Please save yourself the aggravation and embarrassment of walking around with a dog a terrible hair cut. UNBELIEVABLE, I'M SO MAD I'M READY TO PICKET THIS PLACE. I have had two great grooming experiences with Danielle at Kriser's in Vernon Hills. She is great with my dog and handles him well (and my dog is a large dog!). For the first trip she recommended a fulminator service, which ended up making a huge difference. In both trips, he came back looking great. I highly recommend Kriser's grooming services. We've been buying our dog food from Kriser's for years from two different locations in the Chicago burbs. When our lab got into it with a skunk we needed a solid groomer that we could trust that could squeeze us in for a quick de-skunking treatment. We were nervous about using a groomer we had no experience or feedback on but the skunk situation forced our hand...needless to say it worked out great and our groomer (Danielle) was excellent and very understanding and communicative. The staff are wonderful and very helpful and not to mention very knowledgeable. I like the location as well, it has a small parking lot but the fact its in a smaller plaza there is not as much traffic coming through. Therefore, no problems with parking at all. Just recently started shopping at Kriser's because of our search for healthier food options for our dog. We're not sure if the skin allergies and digestive issues were caused by the kibble he was on, but wanted to switch to a different manufacturer with a good track record for producing healthy dog food. The staff at Kriser's is very pleasant and knowledgeable. They recommended that we switch to a limited ingredients formula and continue monitoring him for the next few weeks. After three weeks, his skin allergies and digestive issues completely disappeared. He has more energy and seems to drink less water than when he was on the old kibble. Our doggie is happy again! Their grooming price is bit overpriced compare to other groomers around the area but offers a walk in for santization trim which is very convenient. I requested face, paw, butt, and nail trim as usual and it takes about 30 minutes. I usually wait around in the store but I decided to make some deposit at Chase and pick up some food from Burger King. To people who are familiar with the area knows that the chase located next to Aldi which is next to Mariano's and Mariano's is located next to kriser's. Also, burger king is located across of chase. I have informed the older women employee that I will be back soon. When I came back, she raised her voice at me asking me where I have been and complaining that one of her colleague had to hold my puppy for a while. First of all, I was gone about 25 minutes and the store was empty. This isn't my first time experiencing rudness from this employee. I once asked her about dog food recommendation and she constantly rushed me and asking me what you want like she was too busy to answer my questions. We have a British longhair cat, which can be a bit fussy about being brushed. As such, if we don't have he periodically shaved, she might develop tangles. Even without the tangles, it's apparent she gets uncomfortable as her coat gets too thick. We've had a lot of trouble finding a groomer that accepted cats in our neighborhood, but my roommate found Kriser's through Yelp. We were able to schedule an appointment for the full grooming package right away. We dropped her off, checked out all the great treats and toys in their shop. We came back in an hour, to watch our cat being expertly groomed. Despite her being fussy, the groomer knew exactly how to control her so she could be cleaned and shaven without too much stress or resistance. Our kitty's lion cut was perfect, her nails were trimmed, her ears were clean, and she didn't seem to mind it at all. She was happy and purring within a few seconds. The staff was very friendly and helpful, offering us numerous samples of natural cat food brands. Their supplies are all reasonably priced, as was the grooming service. We'll be sure to come back, the next time our kitty needs to be groomed. read more

Just picked my pooch up from Kriser's in Vernon Hills & she is adorable! I have a toy poodle & like to keep her hair a little longer so she stays fluffy. When trying new groomers in the past, this request has often been ignored or denied. Not at Kriser's! Danielle is AMAZING. Before the appointment, she took me in the back so I could see the different size combs/clippers, as well as the grooming area. This made me feel so comfortable right off the bat. I've been to groomers in the past who take your dog into an area deemed off limits to customers & it just makes you wonder..what are they doing back there? After my pup's appointment with Danielle today, I'll definitely never be back to any of those places. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my dog's cut, not to mention I picked up a few goodies while there! They have a great toy selection and Halloween costumes were 50% off.
